COMMUNITY IMPACT REPORTD A L L A S M AV E R I C K S 2 016

Sincerely, Mark Cuban, MFFL

The Mavericks family not only comes together in support of the team on the court, but also in support of those around us. We believe it is our social responsibility to make a difference in the community that is our home. This past year, the Dallas Mavericks players, coaches and partners came together to build a stronger community through our core areas of focus: education, environment, health and wellness, and military appreciation.

We impacted the lives of more than 50,000 DFW Metroplex individuals by building wheelchair ramps for military vets, providing scholarships for college, hosting healthy living clinics to help MFFLs be MAVS FIT, donating winter coats and Thanksgiving meals to those in need, assisting families in substance abuse treatment centers, providing life-saving support for infants in local NICUs and much more.

Thank you to our partners, sponsors and MFFL family for sharing our community vision and joining us in our efforts.

Dear Friends,

IMPACT

2016 Dallas Mavericks Community Report Staff

Through our community programs and Mavs Foundation, we are changing lives in North Texas and have impacted thousands of children, families and communities. Over the last 20 years, nearly $4 million has been donated to nonprofits serving those in our area. In 2016 alone, more than 50,000 people in North Texas received support from a Dallas Mavericks program.

The Dallas Mavericks strive to be champions on the court and in the community. We are dedicated to building a stronger community through educational programs, health and wellness initiatives, environmental efforts, support for military veterans, and grants to nonprofit organizations.

EXCELLENCEIN EDUCATION

Through the 9th Annual Academic All-Stars program, the Dallas Mavericks, Harrison Barnes and Flowserve recognized elementary and middle school students who were excelling in school or made significant improvements between grading periods. Twenty five winners from across the DFW Metroplex received great Mavs prizes including tickets to a Mavs game and recognition on court at halftime. Starting in Fall of 2016, monthly tutoring and mentoring sessions were held in five Dallas ISD schools considered failing by Texas state assessments.

At every home game this past season, ExxonMobil and the Dallas Mavericks recognized a middle or high school student who has a love for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as the ExxonMobil Honorary Co-Captain. To applaud and encourage these bright students to continue their pursuit of excellence in STEM studies, selected students received two tickets to a Mavs game and were invited to shoot around on court pre-game, sit on the bench during team introductions and meet the Mavs team captain at half court.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH CHALLENGE

As part of our commitment to continuing education, the Dallas Mavericks, Wesley Matthews, Harrison Barnes and Century 21 Mike Bowman, Inc. presented Dallas Mavericks High School Scholarships to high school seniors in financial need in the DFW Metroplex.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Dallas Mavericks and BNSF Railway, in association with American Airlines, provided DFW Metroplex students the opportunity to compete in the 8th annual event. Students were required to submit an essay answering the prompt “I Have A Dream: How Black History Inspires Me!”, and five students won the fieldtrip of a lifetime to Memphis, Tennessee!

The Dallas Mavericks and The UPS Store teamed up to present the 12th Annual Classroom Champions Program, created to recognize outstanding North Texas educators. Ten winning teachers each received $1,000 for themselves and $1,000 for their school, and tickets to a Mavs game where they would be recognized on court.

MILITARYAPPRECIATION

At the 11th Annual Seats for Soldiers event, more than 100 wounded service members from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio joined active reserve troops from the Dallas/Fort Worth area for dinner at Abacus restaurant followed by courtside seats for the Mavericks game. Dallas Mavericks season ticket holder Neal Hawks originated the Seats for Soldiers concept, and he and other season ticket holders donated their courtside seats, valued at more than $350,000. Following the game, the soldiers were treated to a meet and greet with the entire team, owner Mark Cuban, GM Donnie Nelson and Head Coach Rick Carlisle.

As part of the Hoops for Troops program in November, Mavs players A.J. Hammons and Dorian Finney-Smith, staff, ManiAACs and members of the Army, Navy and Air Force from the 301st Fighter Wing Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base partnered with the Texas Ramp Project to build five wheelchair ramps in various underserved local communities.

In partnership with Raising Cane’s and FOX Sports Southwest, the Mavs challenged fans to donate new and gently used coats, blankets and other winter items for families in need. Rookie A.J. Hammons helped deliver the items to Dallas LIFE, a homeless shelter providing food, shelter, clothing, education and recovery programs for individuals to find a path out of homelessness.

In December 2016, the full Dallas Mavericks team visited over 100 low-income men and women living in the heart of West Dallas at Lakewest Rehabilitation & Skilled Care. The guys helped spread a little holiday cheer with residents who may never have visitors by serving cookies and punch in the main day room, as well as making in-room visits to those who are bed bound with special Mavs gifts, photos and autographs.

SEASON OF GIVING

Dirk spent more than four hours visiting with boys and girls who were at Children’s Medical Center receiving treatment over the holidays. Kids ranging in age between 8 weeks and 15 years old received a special surprise visit from Dirk. He brought them all wrapped presents from their wish lists including iPads, headphones, video games, Disney’s Frozen dolls and much more, while hanging around to help them play with their new toys. Nowitzki’s visit was filled with many memories of laughter, hugs, pictures, autographs and tears of joy, as he helped to brighten the kids’ holiday.

In partnership with Pay Away the Layaway, Dwight Powell and Devin Harris gave families a special holiday surprise for Christmas. Dwight and Devin surprised families at Burlington Coat Factory at Southwest Center Mall in South Dallas by paying off the remaining balance on their layaway so they can take all of their kid’s gifts home with them.

SEASON OF GIVING

The Dallas Mavericks help our fans live healthy

and happy lives by promoting programs that

encourage healthy living, nutrition and exercise

to get active and be Mavs FIT.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

During the MAVS FIT Challenge presented by Baylor Emergency Medical Centers, youth in the DFW Metroplex were encouraged to make healthy living a priority. Students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, Collin County and Arlington tracked their eating and exercise habits through a points system to win prizes. The club with the most points received a donation of new sporting equipment.

As part of the Jr. NBA program, Mavs Basketball Academy coaches hosted basketball clinics throughout the season with middle schoolers from across DFW. The Jr. NBA is the league’s global youth program which aims to celebrate, grow and improve the game of basketball.

In order to provide an opportunity for kids who might not have the chance to attend basketball camp over the summer, the Dallas Mavericks Basketball Academy and the Mavs Foundation partnered with Baylor Emergency Medical Centers and Power Crunch to award 50 camp scholarships to children of low-income families across the metroplex.

During the week-long drive in April 2016, the initiative generated 25,220 pounds of donations at various Goodwill locations and American Airlines Center. Over the past two seasons the Mavs have collected 86,080 pounds from over 700 donors.

The Dallas Mavericks, PwC US, and Arborilogical Services, Inc. once again teamed up for Trees for Threes to plant one tree for every three-pointer the Mavs made at home. Over the past six seasons, PWC and the Mavs have planted 2,100 trees at local Dallas ISD schools and area parks.
