IN-TERM SWIMMING LESSONS Swimming lessons for students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 have commenced this week and I must commend our students on their approach and general behaviour. It was pleasing to go along to the pool and hear from the Swimming Coordinator that our students are a pleasure to have and was very complimentary about their manners. Lessons will continue for another week and I look forward to hearing about our students continued success and application. P&C AGM On Tuesday evening the P&C AGM was held in the staffroom. Thank you to those parents who were able to come along for this important meeting. Almost all of the positions on the P&C have been filled which is a great outcome. Congratulations to parents who were nominated and have been elected to positions on the P&C. I would also like to thank this group of parents for their time, effort and commitment in volunteering to take on a role. A list of P&C Office Bearers for 2019 is included inside this newsletter. Please note that we are still looking for a parent to assist Barbie Connick (Canteen Manager) in her role. This is an important support role for our canteen and involves assisting in recruiting and rostering volunteers, representing the canteen at meetings when necessary and assisting with canteen notices. If you would like to know more Barbie would be only too happy to discuss this further and can be contacted at the school canteen. Danae Taylor our Fundraising Coordinator, is also looking for additional parents who would like to join a fundraising committee. Having some new faces and parents with new ideas would be great and certainly help to generate and organise fundraising ventures in 2019. Anyone wishing to know more about these roles or the P&C can contact the office bearers listed in this newsletter or the school office. Please note that P&C Meetings will now be held on a Wednesday evening. Our next meeting is scheduled for 7:00pm Wednesday,13 March.

Triple P Positive Parenting Program Now at Dalmain Primary School
Dealing with Disappointment
By Professor Matt Sanders Despite what certain sport shoe commercials might have you believe, life isn’t always about winning. It is equally important for the development of healthy self-esteem that children learn how to deal with disappointment. As a reaction to not getting what they want, such as being chosen for a team, children may sometimes put themselves down, saying things like: “I’m dumb”, “you hate me” or “I’m just stupid”. If this happens, try to avoid being too sympathetic. Instead encourage your child to try again after the set-back and to enjoy the activity or game even if they aren’t the winner. Rather than simply reassuring your child that everything will be okay, you can help your child develop their own sense of worth by letting them know that you understand their feelings of disappointment and that you are there to help them work out a reasonable way of dealing with that disappointment. Remember too, when you’re helping your child with an activity or with homework concentrate on effort not results. Praising your child for trying and making an improvement will motivate them to continue trying at a difficult task. For more information go to www.triplep-parenting.net or contact Sarah McLean through the school office.

TA 8’s Lesson on Auslan As part of our Civics and Citizenship program
and preparation for Harmony Day, TA 8 were
very fortunate to be visited by Sara Davies
and Marie Ware who spoke to the children
about how people can overcome the
problems associated with hearing loss and
deafness.
The children were given the opportunity to
learn their numbers and alphabet in sign
language (Auslan) and were able to ask
questions of interest. We would like to thank
the speakers very much for their time and
their most enjoyable and informative lesson.
The children loved practising new signs and
signing their names.
