Dance World Cup – Official Rules and Regulations 2017/2018 Page 1 DANCE WORLD CUP OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS – UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2017 V.2.1 Dance World Cup (DWC) is organised by DWC Limited, which is incorporated under the laws of Jersey, Channel Islands and registered under the number 103706. 1. PARTICIPANTS 1.1 All nationalities are welcome to apply to participate in the DWC Finals. 1.2 Entries must be submitted by the principal of a dance school/club/association. 2. QUALIFICATION 2.1 For details of DWC qualifier competitions please refer to the DWC website (www.dwcworld.com). 2.2 DWC participants must qualify at the qualifier for the country where their dance school is located to attend the DWC Finals. 2.3 Dance schools located in a country that does hold a live DWC qualifier can only apply to enter the DWC Finals via the qualifier for that country. 2.4 Dance schools located in a country that does not hold a live DWC qualifier can apply to enter the DWC Finals via video application. Video applications must be submitted by 15 January 2018. DWC will inform dance schools whether a dance has qualified or not by 31 January 2018. For details on how to submit a video application, email [email protected] 2.5 The suggested qualification mark at a DWC qualifier is 70 marks or above. Please refer to the DWC scoring system detailed in ATTACHMENT 2. 3. COUNTRY REPRESENTATION AT DWC FINALS 3.1 Each country with a live DWC qualifier is permitted a maximum of 3 qualified dances in each DWC class, except in the following classes where only 2 qualified dancers are permitted: MiniSM, MiniSW, MiniSA, MiniSMm KSM, KSW, KSZ, KSE, KSA, KSMm JSM, JSW, JSZ, JSE, JSA, JSMm SnSM, SnSW, SnSZ, SnSE, SnSA, SnSMm (See ATTACHMENT 1 – CLASSES AVAILABLE AT DANCE WORLD CUP) 3.2 The host nation of the DWC Finals will be permitted 4 qualified dances in each DWC class in their year of hosting the finals. Except in the above classes (3.1) where only 3 qualified dancers are permitted.

3.3 In theeventof a tie in a class at aDWCqualifier, the judgeswill decidewhichdancewillqualify for the DWC Finals. DWC will not accept more than the maximum number ofqualifieddancespermittedineachclass.Thequalifierorganiserwillinformdanceteacherswhichdanceshavequalified.

Forexample, if thereare3danceswhich tie for firstplace in JSB,only these3danceswill

qualifyfortheDWCFinals.Ifthereare2firstplacesand2secondplaces,the2firstplaceswillqualifyandthejudgeswillselectoneofthesecondplacestoqualify.

3.4 Countrieswherethereisnolivequalifierarepermittedamaximumof2dancesinallDWC

classes. 4.AGE4.1 Competitors’ageistakenon1JanuaryoftheyeartheDWCFinalstakesplace.4.2 Induets,trios,quartets,smallgroupsandlargegroupstheageoftheoldestcompetitorwill

determinetheclassagecategory.4.3 Themaximumageofcompetitorsis25years.4.4 DWCreservestherighttoaskforproofofage.4.5 Inallsoloclasses,competitorsmustdanceintheclassfortheirage.5.ENTRY5.1 Entry information for the DWC Finals will be available on the DWC website

(www.dwcworld.com).5.2 EntrieswillonlybeacceptedintheformatavailableontheDWCwebsite.5.3 The principal/teacher is responsible for submitting the correct information on the entry

form.5.4 Information submitted to DWC will be used for all competition documents, i.e.

programming,certificates,etc.5.5 By entering a DWC competition, all dancers consent to DWC and its partners videoing,

photographingandrecordingthematanytimeduringtheDWCFinals,includingduringtheirperformances,atDWCeventsandinandaroundthevenue.Videos/photosmaybeusedbyDWCanditspartners,includingbutnotlimitedtoinadvertisingandpromotionalmaterials,theDWCwebsite,socialmediaanddistributedtothepress.

6.ENTRYCLOSINGDATE6.1 TheDWCFinalsentryclosingdatewillbenotifiedtoqualifierorganisersandwillbeavailable

ontheDWCwebsite(www.dwcworld.com).7.ENTRYFEES7.1 TheDWCwebsite(www.dwcworld.com)willconfirmtheentryfeesanddetailsofpayment

fortheDWCFinalseachyear.

8.RESTRICTIONSINPARTICIPATION8.1 Thedance thathasqualifiedmustbeperformedat theDWCFinalsunlesspermissionhas

beengivenbyDWCtomakechangestothechoreographyordance.8.2 YoucannotperformthesamedancewiththesamedancersatmorethanoneDWCFinal.8.3 Plagiarismofotherdancesisnotpermitted.Actionwillbetakenifacomplaintismade.8.4 Soloistscanperformin2qualifiedsolosonlyattheDWCFinals.Forexample,asoloistcould

danceinKSBandKSM,butcouldnotalsodanceinKSW.

8.5 Soloistscannotperforminthesamesoloclasstwice.Forexample,asoloistcannotdancein

KSBtwice.8.6 Dancerscanperforminonlyoneduet/trio/quartetinaparticularclassattheDWCFinals,

even ifdancingwithdifferentpartner(s). Forexample,adancer canonlyperform inone

JDMentry.TheycannotperformagaininJDM.8.7 DancerscanperforminonlyoneSMALLgroupinaparticularclassattheDWCFinals,even

ifdancingwithdifferentpartner(s). Forexample,adancercanonlyperform inoneJGSM

entry.TheycannotperformagaininJGSM.8.8 Dancerscanenteraduet/trioorsmallgroupinmorethanonegenre.Forexample,adancer

canenterJDM,JDB,JDNandJDT.8.9 DancerscanperforminmultipleLARGEgroupsinaparticularclassattheDWCFinals.8.10 Small groups (eg KGSM) must contain a minimum of 4 dancers and a maximum or 10

dancers.ExceptinMiniGSB,KGSB,JGSBandSnGSBwheretheminimumnumberofdancersis5. Balletgroupswith4dancers (quartets)mustbeentered inKQB–MiniandChildrenQuartetBallet–anystyleorSnQB–JuniorandSeniorQuartetBallet–anystyle

8.11 Largegroups(egKGLB)mustcontainaminimumof11dancers.9.EXCHANGEOFDANCERS/SUBSTITUTEDANCERS9.1 Dancersmaybeexchangedasfollows:

a–DuetorTrio–onedancercanbeexchangedofthosewhoperformed inthequalifyingdance.

b – Small groups, quartets and large groups – up to 50%of dancers canbeexchangedofthosewhoperformedinthequalifyingdance.

9.2 Youcannotexchange/substituteanysoloentrydancerattheDWCFinals.10.CLASSORDER10.1 Classorderwillrunwiththeyoungestcompetitordancingfirstandtheoldestdancinglast.10.2 DWCreservetherighttochangetherunningorderofaclass.

themusicwhicheverisfirst.

13.MUSIC13.1 Ifmusic contains swearing or offensive language the dancemay be disqualified or points

maybededucted. Dance teacherscanemaildance@dwcworld.comforguidanceonwhatwordswillbeconsideredswearingoroffensivelanguage.

13.2 Musicmustbesubmittedfollowingtheinstructionsavailableatwww.dwcworld.com.

Allmusicmustbesubmittedbythedatespecifiedonthewebsite.13.3 DanceteachersmusthavebackupCDs foralldances. For further instructions,pleasesee

www.dwcworld.com.

14.JUDGING14.1 The judging panel at the DWC Finals will consist up of internationally acclaimed dancers,

danceteachersor registeredadjudicators. Eachclasswillbe judgedby3membersof thisjudgingpanel.

14.2 Pointsaregiventoeverydance.ThemaximumscoreattheDWCFinalsis100.14.3 The following judging criteria will be applied (for a breakdown of the scoring please see

ATTACHMENT2):CRITERIA POINTSTechnicallevelofthedance 20pointsmaximumQuality in executing the dance and theshowingharmonyinthegroupintechnique.

Artistic Interpretation andmusicality of thedancer(s).

14.4 The decision of the judging panel is final and cannot be changed, there will be no

discussions.15.SCORES15.1 Firstplacewillbeawardedagoldmedalregardlessofthenumberofpointsreceived.15.2 If two dances receive the same number of marks at the DWC Finals then a tied place is

awarded.15.3 ThejudgingpanelwilldecidethewinnersofawardsawardedattheGalaandtheirdecision

isfinal.16.CLASSES16.1 ForalistofavailableDWCclassespleaserefertoATTACHMENT1.16.2 DWCreservestherighttomergetwosmallclassestogetherordividealargerclassintotwo

sections.17.STAGE17.1 Stage dimension informationwill be available on the DWCwebsite (www.dwcworld.com)

Mayofthecompetitionyear.17.2 ThesedimensionsareconfirmedbythevenuetoDWCandmaybesubjecttochange.DWC

cannotbeheldresponsibleforanychanges.17.3 DWCreservestherighttochangethevenueofthecompetitionortousemultiplevenuesif

necessary.

18.THEATREADMISSION18.1 TeacherswillreceiveateacherwristbandattheDWCFinalswhichgivesthemfreeadmission

tothetheatre.ThisdoesnotincludeentryfortheGala(s).18.2 Thedistributionof teacherwristbandswillbebasedon thesizeof theschoolentryat the

DWCFinals.Amaximumof5wristbandswillbeavailabletoteachersperdanceschool.18.3 Allotherpersons,dancers,parents,supportersandthegeneralpublicwillhavetopurchase

aticketonentrytothetheatre.18.4 TheDWCFinalsclasssessionsandGalaperformanceareopentothegeneralpublic.19.DRESSINGROOMS/BACKSTAGE19.1 Competitorsand registereddance teachersofparticipatingschoolswillhaveaccess to the

dressingroomsareaduringtheDWCFinals.19.2 Parents have no access to the dressing rooms or backstage unless they are registered as

dressingroomsassistantsbytheschoolprincipal.19.3 If a competitor needs assistance during a performance with props then details must be

emailedtodance@dwcworld.combeforethestartoftheDWCFinals.20.COSTUMES20.1 CostumeswornattheDWCFinalscompetitiondonothavetobethesameastheonesworn

attheDWCqualifier.20.2 CostumesattheDWCFinalsshouldunderlinethecharacterofthedance.20.3 Costumesmustbeageappropriate.21.GALA21.1 The judgingpanelandDWCwillhave the finaldecisiononwhichdanceswillbe invited to

performattheGala(s)andinwhatordertheywilldancein.21.2 CompetitorsmaybeinvitedtoperformattheGalaeveniftheydidnotreceivefirstplace.21.3 NotallfirstplaceswillbeinvitedtoperformattheGala.22.INSURANCE22.1 DWC Limited is not responsible for any injuries thatmay occur to any person including a

participant,teacheroraudiencememberwhilstinthetheatre,dressingrooms,backstageoronthestage,oranywhereelse.

22.2 It is thedanceschool’s responsibility totakeout theirown insurance(s) for theirschool to

attendDWCFinals.23.TRAVEL23.1 DWC is not responsible for any travel and accommodation costs in relation to the DWC

Finals.

23.2 DWCcannotassistintheorganisationofanyvisaapplications,itistheresponsibilityofthedanceschool/parenttoarrangetheseifneeded.

24.CONDITIONSOFPERFORMANCE24.1 SpeciallightingeffectsarenotpermittedforanyperformanceatDWC.24.2 NolivepropscanbeusedduringaperformanceatDWC.24.3 Noliquidsoranyothersubstancesareallowedonstageatanytime,thisincludesbubbles,

waterorothersubstancesthatmayaffectthestage.24.4 Noconfettiorany itemthatrequiresthestagetobecleaned/sweptmaybeusedduringa

performanceatDWC.A10pointpenaltywillbeappliedtoanydancewhichbreaksthisrule.24.5 Propsmustbesimpleandbeabletobecarriedbythecompetitorsonstageunlesstheyare

tooyoungtodoso.24.6 LargescenerypropsarenotpermittedonthestageatDWC.Therestrictionstopropsareas

follows:Height170cm,Width120cmandDepth80cm.24.7 DWCwillnotberesponsibleforthesafekeepingofanypropsattheDWCFinals.24.8 DWC will not be responsible for any injuries/accidents to a competitor/teacher whilst

transferringaproponoroff the stageand inoroutof thebackstagearea. All propsareusedattheriskofthedancerandtheteacher.

24.9 Propsmustbeintegraltotheperformanceandthejudgingpanelreservetherighttodeduct

pointsifthepropisdeemedunsuitablebythejudgingpanel.24.10 There will be a 20 second time limit for any prop to be placed on stage prior to a

performance.Failuretocomplywiththiscouldresultinatimepenalty.24.11 If themusicstopsduringaperformanceduetoatechnical issue inthetheatreyouwillbe

allowedtodanceagain.Youcannotdanceagainifyouforgetyourdance.24.12 Ifadancer’smusicwillnotplayatthetimeoftheperformanceduetoatechnicalissue,then

thedancer(s)is/areabletoperformwithoutmusicattheDWCFinals.25.POINTESHOES25.1 Dancers under the age of 12 years (on 1 January of the year of the competition) are not

permittedtowearpointeshoesattheDWCFinalsinanycircumstances.25.2 Pointe shoes are not allowed in any CHILDREN’s classes (13 years and under). With the

exceptionofrule25.3below.25.3 Ballet soloists aged 12-13 years can enter KSPBR - Children Solo Repertoire Ballet and/or

KSPBN-ChildrenSoloNeoclassicalBalletandwearpointeshoes.25.4 Only10–12yearoldscanenterKSB-ChildrenSoloBallet–anystyle(13yearoldsarenot

permittedtoenterKSB).

25.5 A12yearoldcannotenterbothKSBandKSPBRorKSPBN.AdancermayenterbothKSPBRandKSPBN(seerule26.1.d)

25.6 Ifadanceraged12-13yearswearspointeshoesinaduet,trio,smallgroupor largegroup

dance then the dance must be entered in the relevant JUNIOR class. THIS MUST BEDETAILEDONTHEENTRYFORM.

26.GENRESPECIFICRULES26.1BALLET26.1.aSoftballetshoes,pointeshoesandbarefeetarepermittedinballetclassesatDWC.26.1.b InclassesJSBRandSnSBR,allfemaledancersaged14orovermustwearpointeshoes.26.1.c IntheJUNIORandSENIORballetgroupclassesit isrecommendedbutnotcompulsorythat

someofthegirlsdancinginthegroupperformanceswearpointeshoes.Thejudgingpanelmaytakethisintoaccountintheirscoring.Pleasenoterule25.1applies.

26.1.d Dancers are allowed to enter a solo in both a ballet repertoire class (eg JSBR) and a

neoclassical/classicalclass(egJSBN).Noterule8.4.26.1.e Repertoire choreographies or variations of any kind are not permitted in any of theMINI

classes.26.1.f Musicfromrepertoires/variationsarenotpermittedinanyMINIclass.26.1.g It’sstrictlyprohibitedtouseanykindofprotectedoriginalchoreographies,unlessthedance

teachersendsDWCthewrittenpermissionfromthedesignatedorganisation.Thisincludesall Balanchine, Lacotte and Mat’s Ek works, as well as any other choreographer whichrequiresformalpermissiontobedancedinacompetitionenvironment.

26.2NATIONALANDFOLKLORE26.2.a Nationalorfolkloredancesfromanycountrymaybepresentedbydancestudentsfromany

country.26.2.b A traditional dance wearing traditional shoes should be entered into the national and

folkloresectionsandnotintothetapsection.26.2.c Theofficialentryformmustcontaininthetitleofthedancethenameofthecountrywhere

thedanceoriginatesfrom,e.g.Tarantella(SouthernItalianDance)26.3MODERN,JAZZ,SHOWDANCE,CONTEMPORARYANDACRO26.3.a PleaseseeATTACHMENT3foradescriptionoftheseclasses.26.3.b Twoentriespercountryarepermittedinthesesections.Forfurtherinformationpleasesee

rule3.1.26.3.c Pointe shoes canbeworn in themodern sections if the choreography is enhancedby the

wearingofpointeshoes.

26.4SONGANDDANCE26.4.a MusicmustNOT contain any vocals performedor pre-recorded by the competitor or any

backingvocals.A10pointpenaltywillbeappliedtoanydancewhichbreaksthisrule.26.4.b Microphoneswill be supplied at theDWC finals. Dancerswill have the choiceof headset

microphones or hand heldmicrophones. Amaximumof 3microphonesmay be used forgroups,thesecanbeheadset,handheldoracombinationofboth. Pleaseconsideraccessformicrophoneplacementwhendesigningcostumes.

26.4.c ForSongandDanceentriesDWCisnotresponsibleforgainingpermissionorpayingroyalty

fees for a particular performance, this onus is on the teacher/dance school having thecorrectPRS/PPLLicencesinplace.

26.5TAP26.5.a Tapshoesmustbeworn in thetapsection. Hard Irishshoesarenotpermitted in thetap

section.IfhardIrishshoesareworn,thedanceshouldbeenteredintheNationalsection.26.5.b Tapmaybeperformedwithoutmusicduringtheperformance.26.5.c Atacitsectionmaybeusedatanypointinatapperformanceandthedancewillalwaysbe

timedfromthefirstsoundoftheperformancemadeonstage.26.5.d Timingcommences fromthevery firststepof thetapdanceor the firstnoteof themusic

whicheverisfirst.Timingendswiththeendofthemusicorwiththelasttapbeatwhicheverislast.

26.5.e Nopre-recordingoftapbeatsisallowedonthecompetitor’smusic.A10pointpenaltywill

beappliedtoanydancewhichbreaksthisrule.27.COUNTRYAWARD27.1 TherulesforthecountryawardwillbereleasedinMayofthecompetitionyear.
