Change of date for school photo day
Tuesday 19 May
It has been a hectic start to the year with lots of changes.
Classes / Teachers - We would like to officially welcome
Mr Cheeseman in Stage 3 and Ms A Evans in Stage 1 to
Erko this year!
A new change introduced this year will be Mrs Hopkinson
as a relieving AP for Kindergarten and Ms Eastley
(Welcome back!) as our substantive AP for Stage 1 (Years
1 & 2).
In Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) we have created an above
establishment class as our numbers now in Stage 2 are
large. Ms Sallway and Ms Celic will share Wollemi class.
Ms Celic is now a permanent staff member at Erko and is
working hard on our processes and programming for High
Potential Gifted Ed students to implement in all classes.
Classes are set up as such to cater for the wide range of
abilities across a stage whilst giving the class teachers an
opportunity to differentiate practice to meet individual
student needs, collaboratively plan and accommodate
any new students that are moving into our growing
catchment.
In Stage 3 Mr Rodley will be relieving as AP for this year.
Buildings - a reminder that kindy is in Block C, Stage 1
the top floor of Block A and Grevillea in the middle level.
Stage 2 stretch from the first level of Block A through to
the southern end of Block B (heritage building). Stage 3
classes are all found in Block B.
Learning Support Team (LST) - This year we welcome
Mr Doug Graham as our new counsellor, Mr Rodley will
be taking over the coordination of our learning support.
Each week, the LST review all classes to identify students
needing assistance through academic, social or emotional
need.
Badge ceremony - This Thursday will be a big assembly
to hand badges to our new SSRC members, house
captains, school captains, vice captains and for the first
time, band leaders. Congratulations to all recipients.
Sentral - As time progresses more and more processes of
communication will move through to Sentral. Currently
attendance is recorded here but I am hoping that I will be
able to post more regularly about day to day events.

ERKO BAND NEWS
BAND CAPTAINS - this year we are very excited to be nominating band captains - 2 per band. These students
have been selected by Emily, Edward, Mr Chadbond and Ms Cecire - and approved by the principal. The
decision was based on attendance at rehearsals and lessons, commitment to practice, punctuality and
behaviour. The chosen students will receive a badge. They will have added leadership responsibilities and be
key student representatives of the program. Captains will be announced for Intermediate and Concert Band
this week at the badge-giving assembly. Training band captains will be announced after term 1. New Captains
will be selected each year.
INTERMEDIATE AND CONCERT BAND - now have new music to be practicing this term. Please make sure you
practice your music and store it in a folder. Edward is already very happy after the first few rehearsals - so
keep up the good work!
TRAINING BAND - I am thrilled to be conducting the training band again this year - and what a talented group
of musicians they are already! Please make sure you are practicing regularly as this is the best way to improve.
Sometimes it can be slow going (and a little tricky!) so don't worry if you are finding it tricky so far, just keep
giving it a go. Books will be arriving this week! Thanks for being patient with this!
PRACTICE SHEETS - As you know, I provide practice sheets for the students to track practice at home. Let me
know if you would like one! I always have stickers in my bag so can check any time - or show your tutor or
conductor. At home practice is often even better with parent support - so please encourage your child/help
them to find a good time to work on it.
I am going away for a few weeks - performing at a children's festival in Italy! Edward will be conducting the
training band while I am away, and Samantha will be covering the flute tutoring. I can't wait to hear how much
everyone has improved when I get back!
Emily, Edward, Ben and Micaela
FROM THE PRINCIPAL - continued
Camp - Stage 3 camp notes have gone out and the process has begun for collection of payments. I would like to
remind all that the school is able to assist if need be through our school/P&C equity fund. I have done this camp
a number of times and I know students will enjoy it.
Uniform - Now is the time to remind all to put names on lunch boxes, drink bottles, hats etc. For new parents our
policy is that historically due to the number of unclaimed items, they are removed from the school. Items found
can be perused and collected in the brown hall.
Entering the school - Please enter the school through our foyer or pedestrian gates on Malcom Street and Bridge
Street. Please refrain from going through the carpark, as this can be dangerous - it is not a habit we want to en-
courage.
P&C - My thanks to all those involved in the kindy welcome bbq - which was a great success. A reminder too, that
the 2020 P&C AGM is tonight in the library.

General Meeting (AGM). If you’re interested in
standing for a role on the executive, the answers
