I was so very proud of the manner that our student leaders Faith K, Ashton M, Sanika N and Kodi T presented the work that Stage 3 had completed on dementia awareness during the year. The public speaking skills of Tara G must also be acknowledged as a MC for the evening as well as students from Stage 3 and our support classes who bought the entire audience to tears with their signing of “The Climb.” A big thank you to Mrs Francis, Mrs Head, Mrs Wastell, Ms Dufficy and Mrs Shearman for coaching students and supporting them on the night. Dear Stage 3, I wanted to personally thank you all for your amazing efforts while participating in Kids4Dementia. I was blown away by your enthusiasm and willingness to accept and think carefully about dementia throughout the program. A special congratulations to the Prime Ministers and Deputy Prime Ministers who presented your community project at the Valley Schools Presentation evening on Wednesday night. You all spoke brilliantly and it was clear you had put a lot of thought and effort into both your speeches and the film you made. I especially loved that you used Nat King Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’ for the music, I thought it was a fantastic choice!

PRINCIPAL’S UPDATE

Hello to all,

Valley Schools Leadership Forum Congratulations to all of our students involved in the Valley Schools Leadership forum last week. Breaking News: We have just received the following letter from the University of NSW further acknowledging the work of Stage 3.

Dear Stage 3,

I wanted to personally thank you all for your amazing efforts while participating in Kids4Dementia.

The whole Kids4Dementia team has been consistently impressed with how you have engaged in the program, and how you have taken it the extra mile in visiting Henry Kendall Aged Care Facility. I was so happy to hear it was such a great success, and that you have already been invited back to sing Christmas carols and make decorations in December! When we set out to design and implement the program, this is exactly what we were hoping to achieve: to foster understanding, empathy and friendship between Stage 3 students and people with dementia. To hear that you are planning to continue the program and visits next year is just wonderful. I wish you the best of luck with the rest of the year, and a huge thank you again from all of us here at UNSW! Kind regards,

Isabelle Schaefer Senior Research Officer Kids4Dementia Project Dementia Collaborative Research Centre

Grandparent Day Last Monday around 200 Grandparents shared a delightful morning with us in classrooms seeing the accomplishments of their grandchildren. A wonderful time was had, which was topped off with a magnificent performance in the hall and a feast of scones and biscuits. Many thanks to our K-2 staff: Mrs Jacqueline Nagle, Mrs Melissa Sturgess, Mrs Freya Christley, Mrs Liz Rogers, Mrs Louisa Rio, Mrs Megan O’Riley, Mrs Kristy Setchell, Mrs Tara Henry for ensuring the day was a great success and to Mrs Lisa Matthews and Mrs Belinda Kimpton for arranging a delicious feast for all to enjoy. I’m not sure if any Grandparents took up the opportunity to try out our new infants playground equipment but I am confident they had a great time getting to know a little more about our school.

Staff Professional Learning As mentioned in previous newsletters a key focus of staff professional learning this year has been on the writing process. Monday evening found staff gathered in the staffroom learning about the final step in this process “Exciting Endings.” The room was alive with brainstorming ideas and laughter as staff learnt more about this and how to put it into practice within the classroom. Many thanks to Mrs Carol Williams and Mr Matthew Walter for leading this professional learning – I look forward to seeing

some great examples of children’s work over the coming weeks.

Sandpit Boxes A number of stainless steel boxes are attached to the side wall of C block that store the equipment that students use in the sand pit. Please ensure you do not sit on these or that younger children are not running across these as the lids are being damaged.

Office Hours Please be reminded that our office hours are 8.30am – 3.30pm. The phone will not be answered outside of these hours.

Attention on Attendance We are on the final countdown for students to receive a perfect attendance award for 2018! Congratulation to the 15 students who have maintained this rate – only 5 more weeks to go! We also have 13 students who have had less than 2 days off this year. These students should also be extremely proud of their efforts.

Dogs (and cats) at School Please be reminded that dogs and cats are not permitted in school grounds. This is legislated rule for all schools across NSW. Please

understand that while your dog or cat may be cute and well behaved we have students in the school who suffer from severe allergies and others who are extremely frightened of them. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Have a great fortnight Rebecca Wild PRINCIPAL

On Friday 7 December Years 5 and 6 will hold their annual Mini-Fete. This will be a great day for all students to celebrate a

successful school year and raise money for the Year 6 Farewell. The Mini-Fete will run from the end of recess, 11:15am, until lunch, 12:45pm. The Year 5 and 6 students will run many exciting games and activities, including: Novelty games, Hair Spray, Tattoos, Face Painting, Nail Polish, White Elephant Stall, Colouring-in Competition, Jellybean Guessing Competition, Cupcakes, Cordial Stand, Basketball shoot outs, Spin the Wheel and much, much more … Each activity will cost a certain amount of Wyoming Dollars. To purchase Wyoming Dollars place your money in an envelope with your child’s name and class and hand it into the office. Wyoming Dollars will be handed out to students just before the Mini-Fete. Please note: If you have more than one child attending Wyoming Public School please put Wyoming dollars money is separate envelopes – one for each child. Just a reminder that the class awards collected for the Principal’s Award must be collected within the one school year. As each class award is used towards a Principal’s Award it is marked on the back. This means that a class award can only be used once towards a Principal’s Award.
