PTA Box Tops Classroom Collection Thank you for collecting your Box Tops for Education!! The
classroom competition ran from October 3rd
through October 14th. The top class in each
grade level will receive a popsicle party and
an extra recess. Those classroom teachers will
also receive a giant spirit stick to display on
their door for bragging rights! Winners will
be announced in the near future.
College Spirit Day Wednesday, October 12th!
KDE held the second Da-
vidson College Spirit Day on
Wednesday, October 12th.
Students and staff wore their
favorite college spirit wear in
support for higher education.
This week Mrs. Tang and
Mrs. Cowan wore their burnt
orange and white and proud-
ly shared some interesting
facts about the University of
Texas. During the an-
nouncements they told stu-
dents about “Bevo” the
Longhorn mascot, demonstrated how to make the UT Hook ‘em
Horns, had a little UT Cheerleader and Mrs. Cowan even played
the UT alma mater “Eyes of Texas” on her flute!. Thank you for a
fun and interesting glimpse into the University of Texas.
National School Lunch Week: October 10th
through October 14th
The theme for the week’s lunches to promote National School
Lunch Week was “Vote for a Winning Lunch.” Students learned
that a winning lunch has great candidates from five groups-whole
grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy and lean protein. Students
went to the cafeteria to meet and eat all the healthy foods. Some
of them were even local Texas products! Students received draw-
ing/coloring contest entries throughout the week. Kindergarten
through 2nd grade students were given a paper to “Draw a picture
of your favorite healthy lunch food that helps you become strong
and smart” and 3rd through 5th graders were given “Nominate
your favorite healthy lunch food and explain why it could help you
to grow up strong so you can learn what it takes to succeed.” En-
tries were submitted to the cafeteria by October 14th. Winners
will be chosen next week and they will receive a prize presented
by the cafeteria staff

Tuesday folders. Have your child give the tickets
to the library staff. In return, the student will be given the corre-
sponding picture to place on his/her scarecrow in the Kindergar-

will receive a “Watch My Scarecrow Grow” spirit stick. Read-
ing tickets will be accepted through Tuesday, November 22nd.

Library Pumpkin Patch Begins
The KDE
Library is
hosting a
“Pumpkin
Patch” for our
KDE families from October 17th through October 21st. Why
the Library? It is a “Book Character” pumpkin patch! That’s
right! We want to see what you can do with a little paint, a
little fabric, or other craft supplies to transform an ordinary
orange pumpkin into your favorite character from a book! For
example: use a little red paint to make Clifford or some yellow
yarn to make Goldilocks. We’re looking for pumpkins that are
created, not carved or punctured. The pumpkin characters will
be on display in the library. Stop by and check out all the
pumpkin creations! Have fun and happy decorating! Every
one who enters is a winner!!!
