Day 6: Spoonful of Joy Monday, July 15 2013

Lecture by Sister Eman al Obaid www.alhudasisters.wordpress.com

We all want to seek the Pleasure of Allah. May Allah make this Ramadhan the door of an opening to attain the Pleasure of Allah and Firdaus al Allah. To have the energy and the strength to continue on the way to Allah subhana wa ta'ala, this journey is by the heart. This ‘Spoonful of Joy’ is the inner strength from which we will benefit and at the same time is full of joy.

The Strength and Power

from Ar Rajaa (Hope)

What is this ‘Hope’?

The Ulema said hope is when:

The heart feels at rest The heart is longing, waiting for the

most beloved things to him. Love is the strongest booster towards Allah subhana wa ta'ala. The love for Allah and

Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the most beloved to you, Ar Rajaa is associated with the Love of Allah because the heart is longing for the Most Beloved to him. When we love Allah subhana wa ta'ala which comes when you know about Allah, so you know what Allah promised – this is the next step, waiting for the reward from the One Most Beloved to you.

You will get all you desire from the generosity of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. The knowledge of Allah is very important. The more you know of Allah’s generosity and beauty the more you love Him. The more you love Him you are having hope from Allah subhana wa ta'ala.

The strength of Ar Rajaa is from where? – you can’t get it by being far away from the knowledge – the Ikhlas, the faith, al mahabah – you need to know about Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This is how you will get the strength. The main source is the Names & Attributes of Allah.

We are really in need. Don’t think we don’t need the hope. Hope is the motivation. Love is not enough – love will make you go forward. Ar rajaa will make you steadfast and keep you firm. We need ar rajaa in every moment in our life.

In this life we are between a sin which we have committed and hoping for the forgiveness from Allah. Chapter (39) sūrat l-zumar (The Groups):53

We need the hope as we sin. Sometimes we feel so guilty because of our sins. The problem is not the falling into the sin, the problem is when we persist in the sin, when we are not repenting to Allah or losing hope from the mercy of Allah. We need the spoonful of hope because we commit sin and we need the forgiveness from Allah.

Why do we need the hope in our lives? In our life we have faults and imperfections. We need to have hope from Allah subhana wa ta'ala that He will fix that imperfection in the dunya whether it is something we don’t have or any faults in our lives. In order to get the benefits and boost we have to do everything for the Sake of Allah – this is not having hope in someone else and in Allah at the same time. We need Tawheed in everything.

Hoping from Allah will fix the faults in our life – whether they be our children, our house, our husband. We need to be positive in life – hoping from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This hope will keep you going and motivate you. You will not feel depressed. Even if you don’t get what you want you are getting the reward of hoping from Allah subhana wa ta'ala.

In life we need hope, we need strength because we are doing ‘amal as saleh so we need to hope that Allah subhana wa ta'ala will accept it from me. When you pray you need to have the hope otherwise you will be miserable. When you pray, when you fast, when you go to umrah, when you give charity, when you acquire the knowledge, any amal as saleh, big or small you need to have hope from Allah that Allah will accept the deed from you. This will make you to do more good deeds. Without hope you will do the ibadah and you will be discouraged on

the way to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. O Seeker of the Pleasure of Allah, the one who is running in the marathon in the month of Ramadhan fill your heart with the strength of the hope. We need it. This will keep you happy and smiling, full of joy and at the same time motivated.

Chapter (2) sūrat l-baqarah (The Cow):127 Allah subhana wa ta'ala mentions Ibrahim alaihi as-salaam and Ismail alaihi as-salaam – the hugest ibadah Allah subhana wa ta'ala assigned to them was building the House of Allah. Hope kept them going and made them to ask Allah ‘May Allah accept our deeds’. Allah knows your intention – we need this hope in every moment of our lives.

Faults and Imperfections

‘Amal Saleh (Good Deeds)

Why do we need hope in our life? If you are on the straight path you are asking Allah subhana wa ta'ala to keep you and everyone on the straight path. You are hoping from Allah to keep you on the straight path, to keep you firm and steadfast on the way of guidance. You need Ar Rajaa in every single moment in your life, if you sin, if you want anything of the dunya, if you want any good deeds to be accepted, and if you are acquiring the knowledge, hope that Allah subhana wa ta'ala will keep you firm.

The negativity is when you are losing hope from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Don’t spread this poison, don’t discourage the people – don’t tell people they can’t memorise the Qur’an, you

can’t wake up for the night prayer etc. Don’t make people to loose hope from Allah. Who said we can do anything. You need Allah subhana wa ta'ala to keep you on the way of guidance – you need to have hope. All the time you need to think everything is good –

Allah will keep me firm, Allah will keep me going, Allah will reward me because of the hope.

We need to tell ourselves to never loose hope and don’t spread the negativity among the people.

Chapter (3) sūrat āl ʿim'rān (The Family of Imrān):8 The du’a as an action of the tongue is more powerful when you have the strength from the inside – the strength of the hope, full hope in Allah that Allah will never make your heart deviate from the truth and hope that Allah will keep you firm on the guidance. Allah is The Bestower – this will keep you having the hope from Allah. Tawheed is very important in all these fruits.

Why do we need the hope in our lives? What are we hoping for? – I want to be close to Allah subhana wa ta'ala and I am hoping to reach that closeness.

Don’t be negative in life

Hope is the motive to keep going in life

Closeness to Allah

In this month of Ramadan I really want to be close to Allah. We need to have hope from Allah that He can take you closer to Him. We are so tiny in the whole Universe so how can we reach the heavens, how can we reach to Paradise or even to Allah subhana wa ta'ala.

Chapter (2) sūrat l-baqarah (The Cow):186 This is a huge boost to have the closeness to Allah subhana wa ta'ala – Allah is very close and very near. You will get His closeness because Allah will respond to your du’a. You need to have hope to reach the closeness of Allah.

Why do we need the hope in our life? We need so many things to be fulfilled in our life – a house, job, children etc. or we need something in the hereafter. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the only One Who can respond to you or fulfil your request. Chapter (3) sūrat āl ʿim'rān (The Family of Imrān) 3:37 So her Lord (Allah) accepted her with goodly acceptance. He made her grow in a good manner and put her under the care of Zakariya (Zachariya). Every time he entered Al-Mihrab to (visit) her , he found her supplied with sustenance. He said: "O Maryam (Mary)! From where have you got this?" She said, "This is from Allah." Verily, Allah provides sustenance to whom He wills, without limit." 3:38 At that time Zakariya (Zachariya) invoked his Lord, saying: "O my Lord! Grant me from You, a good offspring. You are indeed the All-Hearer of invocation." Maryam radi-Allahu anha was getting the provision – Allah provides for everyone. Zakariya alaihi as-salaam made du’a to Allah for children – this was his hope and Allah gave Him Yahya alaihi as-salaam. Ibrahim alaihi as-salaam is another example.

Even if you don’t get what you want in life the hope will keep you going and Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give you the reward of the hope. If we knew the unseen we would not want our desires to be fulfilled but to only keep

hoping. If we keep hoping and hoping we will get so much reward. On the Day of Judgement there will be so much hasanat from hoping from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. In life we look at what we don’t have and we desire so many things. If you hope that Allah will fill that desire and even if you didn’t get it you will get the reward – you are hoping only from Allah. This is an action of the heart – the spoonful of joy.

Reward of Hope

Chapter (2) sūrat l-baqarah (The Cow):201 Hope in the heart is the strength, the motive behind the virtue of the du’a. This spoonful of hope is medicine for some people. Some people do good deeds but are negative about their deeds causing them to have wiswas that their good deeds will not be

accepted. They need this Spoonful of Hope. Other people feel how can I reach to Allah subhana wa ta'ala so they do nothing – they need this Spoonful of Hope. Everyone needs this spoonful of joy but specifically you need to give it to those who despair from the mercy of Allah subhana wa ta'ala and someone so afraid they do too many good deeds. The strength of the hope is not by relaxing and doing nothing i.e. it is the month of Ramadhan, Allah will forgive me so I will do nothing. This is deceiving oneself. They are doing nothing and hoping from Allah. This is a dispraised hope. A good hope is doing something and hoping from Allah.

So strong is this spoonful – even if you have just one spoonful it is very strong.

What is the strength of ar rajaa? How strong is that ar raja? It is very strong.

You will get the Love of Allah. If you have hope, the Love of Allah is the result, the fruit – Allah loves His servant who has hope from Him. Allah will love you because of the power of the hope.

Do something and hope from Allah

The power of the hope will help you to obtain and reach all that you hope from Allah.

All the time you will be a winner. All the time you are celebrating. All the time you will be happy.

When you have hope from Allah you will never be empty handed. You will never be empty handed whether it be in the dunya or in the akhirah.

What is the power of the hope? The hope is a great motive for striving, for doing the good deeds, to hasten to the Pleasure of Allah.

Chapter (18) sūrat l-kahf (The Cave):110 This is the power and strength – doing good deeds and hoping from Allah subhana wa ta'ala.

Chapter (35) sūrat fāṭir (The Originator):29-30
