LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN Dear Participants;

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 12th Annual Border Security Conference taking place on the 12th and 13th February 2019 in Rome, Italy.

Ensuring security of National Borders is a key priority for all governments and remains one of the most high-profile law enforcement issues of our time.

Conflict, poverty and political instability have created an unprecedented number of refugees and economic migrants moving between countries, placing tremendous pressure on the border security community. In addition, the growth in air travel means that volumes of travellers are growing at an exponential rate.

Border Security 2019 will bring together border Security expertise and good practice focusing on the latest technology being used on the front line and best practice from Law enforcement from across the globe.

Together with the ever-present threat of cross border terrorism, in particular from returning foreign fighters, there is a need to share best practice and to consider how these pressures can be combatted and managed using innovative technological solutions.

Establishing the identity of people crossing borders is key and this year’s conference will focus on the new technology being deployed across the globe to ensure that border law enforcement agencies can differentiate between travellers particularly using biometric technology, in order to focus their resources on those that pose the greatest risk.
