PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Parent Newsletter Week 1 Term 1 • Welcome back • Welcome to all our new families • Welcome to a new staff member • Vale – previous staff member • Very Positive start to 2016 • Student Requisites • 3-6 Swimming Program

Welcome back everyone, I trust you had a lovely break, a delightful Christmas and more recently enjoyed Australia Day Celebrations.

Welcome to all our Preps & new students and their families, I know that the Daylesford PS school community will embrace our new families.

Welcome to Katie Yeung our new staff member, who will be teaching P-2 classes in Performing Arts and taking the Junior Choir. Suzanne Hobson remains with us but in a reduced time fraction. We were saddened to hear the news that Melissa Ray passed away before the New Year, losing her battle to cancer at the age of 29 years. During her illness we were continually amazed at her bravery and her courage, our hearts go out to her fiancée and her family. Melissa taught MiniLIT and a number of classes over several years at DPS and will be truly missed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the school community for supporting our staggered start this year. The EY testing program has proven to be highly beneficial, the 1:1 time has enabled staff and students to develop a positive relationship and the extensive works completed by the 3-6 staff on student data has allowed for a very dynamic start, whereby allowing all the staff to know where their students are currently positioned both academically, socially and emotionally.

The school has yet again gone to a great deal of trouble to order, purchase, sort and supply a wide range of student requisites to all our classrooms, thereby replacing booklists which parents would otherwise have to fulfill. All student’s have already received some of the these requisites. Statements will be sent out in the near future. We would appreciate payment for this excellent service asap. Please contact Deborah our Business Manager if you would like to orgainse a payment plan. Centre Pay and BPay are available, please contact the office if you are unsure how to utilise these options. Finally, Grade 3-6 parents will have received a permission form and payment summary for the Swimming Program. Extra staff have been put in place to support this program and we are looking forward to the House Swimming Sports on Friday 26th February. Please ensure that permission forms have been returned by Monday 8th and that full payment has occurred by the end of the first week of the program.

BOOKCLUB

Book club is an important fundraiser for our school. Every time a family purchases books through Book Club the school receives books for our school library. Over the years Book Club has been operating, hundreds of books have been received and our school library would not be the wonderful resource it is for our children’s learning. Forms were distributed to students this week. The final date for return is Friday 12th February, 2016. Please ensure form has child’s name, and correct money for items ordered enclosed, if returning to the school. Reminder: Parents may also order online via “The Loop”. NET-SET-GO & AUSKICK 2016 ….Katherine Myles NetSetGo Co-ordinator for the Trentham district, and Daniel Lendrec (Auskick Co-ordinator) are running both programs at the Trentham District Primary School in the First Term of 2016. We both have a passion for sport and believe that it is important to get children involved with sport at a young age to develop lifelong skills as well as friendships. Both programs are run for 8 weeks and are recommended for the ages between 5 - 10 but we encourage all ages from 5 – 12 years old. At this stage we are looking at having a Registration / BBQ at the Trentham Sportsground on Friday 5th February 2016 at 6:00pm and plan to kick off the 8 weeks on Friday 12th February at 4:30pm. For further information please contact 0435 715 209.

Calling all UNICYCLISTS! How about we enter a unity of unicyclists into the Ballarat cycle classic (above) on Sunday Feb 21??!! There is a 2.5 hr lake relay which could work well for unicyclists of different levels. We try to do as many laps of Ballarat lake as we can. Daylesford sprung circus kids are already on board but I know there are many more riders in these parts! Please respond soon if you or your child would like to take part! And pass this on to anyone you think could be interested too! (Contact: Mara Macs - 0477499342)

Foster carers from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds are urgently needed. There is a huge demand for Foster Carers in our region. Often meeting the demand for children needing care is not attainable. If you have ever considered being a foster carer, now is the time. Please consider taking up the challenge of Foster Care in an emergency, respite, short or long term capacity. Contact Di Walker or Glenn Licheni at CAFS Ballarat on 53373333 for information on becoming a foster carer.
