India has the largest youth [10-24] population: 356 million.
11 million students pass out of college every year, but where are the jobs?
Our educational system is broken.
Even graduate engineers are failing to find jobs.
They are being forced to take up menial jobs like petrol pump attendant or
car service agent or autorickshaw driving.
All kinds of fly-by-night operators have sprung up,
promising jobs but exploiting our youth.
The real fact is: there are not enough jobs for everyone.
What will our youth do?
If they fail to find employment, they might turn to crime and anti-social activity.
Or… they could become SELF-EMPLOYED i.e. ENTREPRENEURS!
The good news is that thanks to our huge population,
there are business opportunities everywhere.
This is the ‘Base of the Pyramid’ model.
This is not a new idea – we already have great ‘entrepreneurs’ in every walk
of our lives, who provide us with service and make a living from it.
Why can’t we improve on this?
Mobile apps are becoming a major economic engine.
This is a historic opportunity for entrepreneurs to get into business
with very little investment or infrastructure.
The real ‘skill gap’ is in our minds—our education makes us expect only jobs,
and blinds us to entrepreneurship as a career option.
