Dean Brookie established his architecture and planning firmbased in Durango in 1980. He has dedicated much of hiscareer to developing affordable housing, municipal andeducational facilities, and historic preservation in historicdowntowns nationwide.
He has served on the city’s Board of Appeals and on numerousnot-for-profit boards including High Noon Rotary Club, Habitatfor Humanity, and the Durango Adult Education Center. He is afounding member of the Boys and Girls Club and a CouncilMember of the El Pomar Foundation.
In 2007, he was honored as Volunteer of the Year for Habitatfor Humanity in Colorado for his design assistance for familyhousing, and in 2009 received Colorado’s Governor’s Award for Downtown Excellence for the Best BuildingRehabilitation of the former Wallace Furniture Building, located at 858 Main Avenue.
A leader in community development and environmental sustainability, Dean was a principal member of thedesign teams for the Durango Community Recreation Center and award winning, LEED-certified DurangoMulti-Modal Transit Center.
Dean completed a Bachelors of Environmental Design and a Master of Architecture at the University ofColorado – Boulder. Dean enjoys hiking, fly-fishing and percussion. He has three children residing inWashington, D.C. and Loveland, Colorado.
