Dear Brother Knights,,
November is a month devoted to remembering our fallen
heroes, our veterans who fought for freedom. During the
month of November, almost everyone wears the red re-
membrance poppy which has become a familiar emblem
of Remembrance Day due to the poem "In Flanders
Fields" written by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel
John McCrae. These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields
of Flanders in World War I; their brilliant red colour became a symbol for
the blood spilled in the war.
November is also the month when as Catholics, we celebrate All Saints Day to honour those who have attained the beatific vision in heaven and All Souls Day to commemorate those who have not yet been purified. These celebrations mentioned are only three special days in the month of November. Do we stop thinking about those to whom these special days
are dedicated as soon as the feast or commemoration day is over? I propose not. Because to do so would mean their sacrifice of their lives
have been a failure, all in vain. I’d like us to reflect more on the colour red, it being the symbol for blood. Red—blood-- runs in all of us. Without it we are nothing, we are lifeless. Red is specially essential without which many other things, concepts, ideas, realities cannot be. In all of us, there is the colour red. Regardless of what colour our skin has, we are all red INSIDE. This red within all of us must be our unifying bond to work for peace, to stop hatred, and all forms or suggestions of it. Red should motivate us to care and be compassion-ate, to reach out to another, to help someone find his or her voice, to up build, to heal another. Red should remind us of the love and mercy that Jesus our Saviour contin-ues to give us. Red should move us to give that love and mercy to some-one else, generously expecting nothing in return. Red should also move us to appreciate those who work tirelessly and selflessly expecting nothing in return. It must initiate RESPECT for anybody and for everyone. May there be respect at all times from our hearts, through words and actions. Thank you and God bless.

Since 2003, the Knights of Columbus have sponsored the deliv-ery of tens of thousands of wheelchairs to people in need all over the world, showing exemplary compassion, gener-osity, and dedication to bringing mo-bility to those in need.
Councils, parishes or individuals are able to sponsor entire containers to the country of their choice.
Wheelchair Sunday parish drives are held in churches across the country and have sponsored thousands of wheelchairs to far away places, as Si-erra Leone and Vietnam.
Knights and their families themselves travel to get involved in a life chang-ing hands-on mission that allows chil-dren, teens and adults around the world to have their prayers answered with the gift of hope, freedom, dignity, independence...a wheelchair!

FAMILY OF THE MONTH
John and Lolita Ty
This is not the first time for Brother John and Lady Lolita Ty to receive a Family of the Month
Award. In fact, they have received several awards of recognition from the Council. This time, they
are again a recipient of this award in recognition for their faithfulness and commitment to attend
the daily rosary last October as a couple. While Bro. John admits to having difficulty walking, they
attended the rosary without missing any day.
Brother John and Lady Lolita have been married for 52 years and have been practicing their faith
religiously. They have four daughters. Since Brother John joined the Knights, he has been active
whenever he can . He volunteered at the pancake breakfast, Pennies for Heaven, Parish Census and
they attend and support council events.
Brother John admits that brotherhood or camaraderie in the council is what makes him stick. He
also enjoys sharing his time in whatever way he can despite health and age with Lady Lolita in
participating in council activities.
These are simple things done but very valuable to the life of the council. It becomes a showcase of
a good attitude towards involvement and ownership of the responsibility of a knight.

KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
Brother Ronnie migrated from the Philippines in 2007 with his wife, Lina and their two growing daughters
Karyl now Aged 26 and Karla now aged 23. The family of Brother Ronnie were all baptized catholic and were
active parishioners in the parish where they came from in the Philippines. They continued to be active when
they arrived at St. Mary’s Parish in Vancouver. They joined the choir group.
3 years ago, they moved to Richmond and registered with St. Paul Parish. During the Membership Drive last
October, he was approached and was convinced to join the Knights. He was exemplified to the 1st Degree on
October 7, 2015, went for his 2nd Degree on October 16, 2015 and on to his 3rd Degree last November 14,
2015. During that short span from his 1st Degree exemplification, he has shown much enthusiasm and inter-
est learning what a true knight must do. He volunteers in all the council activities. Pancake set up/takedown
and helped at the pancake breakfast. He volunteered in the set up and takedown during the 39th Anniversary
and attended the event with his wife.
He volunteered to count during the Parish Census. He again volunteered for the Pennies for Heaven. And,
he got a break convincing his friend to come to the November 23rd First Degree Exemplification. That was his
first taste of sponsoring a candidate. What he has done in just over a month proves how dedicated he is as a
knight and definitely a potential member of the Council. He attends the general meetings. He is a role model
for old and new members alike. His active participation in all council activities led him to be chosen as
Knight of the Month.

FIELD AGENT’S CORNER
Jose P. Cabalu, FIC, CHS Field Agent A Founding Notion: Protecting the Breadwinner’s Income
While jobs may be safer these days, accidents, injuries, and illnesses that can impact your ability to work still happen. Most, in fact, do not happen on the jobsite or place of employment. Did you know that a 2011 study revealed that more than 95 percent of the long-term disability claims on file were not work related?
The Knights have always sought to protect members’ families from the “loss” of a breadwinner. I’m sure you know all about Father McGivney’s vision for our insurance program. But you may not know that Father McGivney also wanted to find a way to help members who couldn’t work because of an illness. After all, the “loss” of the breadwinner does not have to mean that person’s death; it can also mean the loss of the breadwinner’s income.
Consider that loss for a moment. How would your family fare if a source of income suddenly stopped? Could a dual-income family manage on one income stream? What about young families with a working father and a mother who cares for the children? What if his income halted due to an accident or illness?
I’ve heard some people say they have coverage at work, but too many aren’t sure what this coverage entails, how much income it would provide or for how long. If you have a job, you must know about this coverage. Having this protection counts for something, certainly, but it isn’t “yours”; it’s provided by the company for which you work at their discretion. It could be eliminated tomorrow.
That’s where a personally-owned disability income insurance product, like the Knights’ Income Armor, comes into play. It can offer valuable income replacement in the event of an injury or illness. Contact me to learn more about it. I’m at 778-837-2317 or [email protected].
