Deadline for Bulletin Items is Tuesday at 3 pm. Dear Padre June 7, 2020 Why was the confusing word consubstantial added to our Creed some years ago? What was wrong with the old “one in being with the Father”? The Creed or Profession of Faith is said at Mass so that the assembly “may respond to the Word of God proclaimed in the readings…and explained in the Homily and that they may also hone and confess the great mysteries of the faith … before the celebration of these mysteries in the Eucharist begin” (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, 67). The Nicene Creed normally is used, although the Apostles’ Creed may replace it at Masses with children or on Sundays during the seasons of Lent and Easter. In the Nicene Creed, “We believe” changed to “I believe” because a profession of faith is a profoundly personal act, even when it’s made in public while at Mass. Plus, the literal translation of the Latin word credo is “I believe,” not “we believe.” The word consubstantial indicates that Christ isn’t simply united with the Father but that they share the same substance. In other words, Christ is not a different God, but He’s the same God with the Father, since our God is One. They’re coequal and coeternal. In St. John’s Gospel, Philip asks Jesus to “show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus replies, “Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father… believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me, or else, believe because of the works themselves” (John 14:8–9, 11). —Fr. But we don't let our ignorance about these things deprive us of their use." The truth of that statement is real. Most of us do not know how an electric light works, how a telephone or a TV works, but this does not prevent us from using them. Let us try to apply the same common sense to our Faith in the doctrine of the Trinity. No one understood this better that Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity. She grew up in France in the late 1800s, the daughter of a successful military officer who died of a heart attack while she was still only a girl. She was an extremely strong-willed and temperamental child. Her frequent fits of rage were almost uncontrollable, and she was known as the "little devil." This began to change after her first Communion, when she was eleven. That afternoon she met for the first time the prioress of the nearby Carmelite convent. The nun explained that the girl's name, Elizabeth, meant "house of God," and wrote her a note that said: "Your blessed name hides a mystery, accomplished on this great day, Child. Your heart is the House of God on earth, of the God of love." From then on, recognizing that God had taken up residence in her soul, she waged a holy war against her violent temper. She didn't win overnight, but she did win, eventually, and she also discovered her vocation to become a Carmelite herself. Her mother didn't like the idea, however, and made her wait until she was twenty-one. She won friends of all ages during those years of waiting, singing in the parish choirs, arranging parish day-care service for families that worked in the local tobacco factory, and also winning several prizes for her skill at the piano. She died only five years after entering the convent, at the age of 26, after having suffered horribly for months from an extremely painful disease of the kidneys. But her realization that the Blessed Trinity dwelt within her enabled her to suffer with patience and even with joy. As she wrote to her mother: "The bride belongs to the Bridegroom, and mine has taken me. [Jesus] wants me to be another humanity for him in which he can still suffer for the glory of his Father, to help the needs of his Church: this thought has done me so much good." Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity had discovered the intimate, loving presence of God that He so eagerly wants to reveal to all of us. Come Holy Spirit, come! Question for Prayer this Week

Do I, like Moses, go to the mountain to be with God? Prayer is entering into the Trinity.

Shirley Schreiner 06-08

Holy Trinity, One God, have mercy on us.

Complete ministry schedules and bulletins are on our website: www.catholic3nd.com. Copies of the

ministry schedule are available at the front of the church starting the 2nd Sunday of the month.

Thank you! To all who continue to give to

your parish - it really does makes a difference.

Let us pray to the one God, Father, Son, and Spirit, that our lives may bear

witness to our faith.

Father, You sent Your Word to bring us truth and Your Spirit to make us

holy. Through them we come to know the mystery of Your life. Help us to

worship You, one God in three Persons, by proclaiming and living

our faith in You.

First Communicants, their parents, siblings,

How can Christianity be considered monotheistic (belief in one god) when it teaches that the Trinity is composed of

three distinct persons? How is that not a form of Polytheism (belief in many gods)?

Christianity is indeed monotheistic.

The Father, the Son and the Holy

Spirit—the three persons of the Holy

Trinity—are united as one God because

they each wholly possess the same divine nature. As such, they are each

distinct, uncreated Spirits. And it’s

important to emphasize “distinct” vs.

“separate,” as “separate” would indeed

imply polytheism. Instead, we

have one God, because they each

wholly possess the same divine nature.

Of course, only the Son became man, so

he also has a human soul and body. … .~Tom Nash, Catholic Apologist (teacher)

Even though the dispensation is still in effect … if you want to come to Mass, but are still worried (that’s okay) about crowds ...

Daily Mass is for you! There is lots of social distance and you can be with Jesus again!

HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVE The ND Catholic conference urges everyone to have a health care directive, especially during these difficult and uncertain times. A health care directive, also known as an advance directive, allows you to state who would make health care decisions for you and what you would like done if you cannot speak for yourself. A health care directive, especially one that conforms to Catholic teaching, is the best way to ensure that your wishes are respected and that your physical and spiritual care reflect Catholic teaching. The greatest advantage of a health care directive, however, is the peace of mind that preparing one can provide. The discussions among family members, loved ones and friends about what should happen and who should make decisions eliminates fears, conflicts and anxieties. Do not wait until you are admitted to a hospital. The ND Catholic Conference has health care directives available for download at: ndcatholic.org/chd. Catholic and non-Catholic Christian versions are available.
