TERM 1, 2020
Monday, 3 February
First Day of Term 1 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
Work has already commenced on class lists and new teacher
appointments for 2020. As you can appreciate, predicting
numbers in classes is difficult. You can assist by coming in and
informing us if you know of any families who are moving into
the area with school aged children.
Please contact the Office to inform us if your children will be
leaving in 2020.
In response to some enquiries I have received, there will be
some mixed year level classes. These are called composite
classes and quite common in our system. Every effort is made
to ensure that children are allocated to the correct classes for
2020.
We are hoping to have class lists for 2020 ready for display on
Wednesday, 18 December 2019 in the undercover area by the
end of the day.

Worm Wizz
Worm Wizz is available for purchase in the alcove next to
Giggling Geckos every morning before school from 8am to
8:30pm. One 2 Litre bottle for $2 or three bottles for $5.
What is Worm Wizz?
It is a wonderful liquid fertiliser for your garden, made from
the worm castings from our worm farms. It can improve
plant growth, soften soil and even repel some insects.
Donations needed of 2-3 Litre bottles
Please consider donating your empty 2-3
Litre bottles to the school rather than
recycling them. We can re-use them to sell
the Worm Wizz.
Please no milk or soft drink bottles as we
don’t find them suitable for storing the
Worm Wizz.
Juice and cordial bottles work best.
The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal Hi Poseidon Families,
Donation boxes for our Salvos Christmas Appeal have been placed in each of the wet areas adjoining the
classrooms. Grocery and gift suggestions can be found next to the boxes. Put your donation in one of the
boxes by Wednesday 11th December so they are ready to distribute for Christmas.
Please involve children in the process of selecting a gift or food item. Children might like to pay for the item
with money earned by washing the car or setting up a lemonade stand. Getting personally involved helps
children to experience the joy of giving and paves the way to developing a generous nature. Research shows
that people who are generous tend to be happier and have healthier relationships, so it’ll benefit your
children as well as the families they’re supporting. Let’s give generously this Christmas season!
Thanking you for your kind support

P&C News
Canteen Discussion Thank you to everyone who came along to the P&C meeting on 19 November 2019 and it was wonderful to
see so many new faces at the meeting. We had a respectful and robust discussion regarding the status of
the canteen. Everyone was able to express their views as to the best course of action for the canteen while
understanding the pressures the P&C Executive Team currently face. We know everyone has Poseidon’s
best interests at heart.
These were the main points of discussion:
• A strong preference to keep the canteen open at 3 days per week.
• An understanding that volunteer support is scarce but essential for the continuation of the canteen.
• Very real ‘burn-out’ of the P&C Executive Team and new volunteers are needed to ensure the P&C
continues next year.
• Only one of the current Executive Team (out of a team of 7) has expressed a desire to renominate at
the AGM. Without volunteers to assume at least the roles of President, Secretary and Treasurer
there will be no P&C in 2020. Without a P&C there will be no canteen.
• The time and resources required by the P&C Executive Team to keep the canteen viable and
operational is a distraction from other community building and fundraising activities.
After nearly two hours of exploring the various issues the majority voted in favour of continuing the canteen
for now.
The current P&C Exec is now be re-advertising the Canteen Supervisor position and will be looking at
implementing a new online ordering system for lunch orders next year.
We encourage anyone who is able to help in the canteen or assist the P&C Executive Team to reach out to
the P&C ([email protected]) with your availability and skills you’re able to provide.

and, depending on the viability of the canteen, for the
duration of the 2020 school year during the WA school
terms. A new online ordering system is expected to
launched for the commencement of the 2020 school year
so working hours are expected to be 10am – 2pm
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday with some extra time for
admin duties (13 hours week).
