2 nd November 2018 Dear Parents/Carers, I hope you had a lovely half term and enjoyed the last of the sunshine for a few months. As we start our second half term, I would like to remind you about the correct school uniform all children should be wearing each day. This is listed below: I have noticed that many children are wearing multi-colored trainers and football kits all day. I am currently discussing with Mr Robotham and the staff about introducing a PE uniform. This would mean that KS2 children on their PE days would wear this uniform all day, instead of getting changed. I am aware that many parents/carers in KS2 don’t like boys and girls getting changed in the same classroom. We are unable to provide two adults to supervise children getting changed in different areas, especially in the afternoons. I welcome your thoughts on this and how we could move forward. If you could let your class rep know, so that we can discuss this at the first meeting on Friday 16 th November. Behaviour Policy An area which was highlighted from the parent/carer questionnaire was behaviour. Last term the Senior Leaders and staff have been working on the Behaviour Policy. This will be emailed out to you today for a consultation period, which will close on Friday 16 th November. If you could email back any ideas or suggestions or let your class rep know. Library As from Monday 5 th November the school library will be open at lunchtimes for KS2 children. Congratulations! Congratulations to Mrs Knight who gave birth to a baby boy. Mum and baby are doing fine. We would also like to welcome back from maternity leave Shirley Gonzalez our Inclusion Manager. Staff Inset Our Inset Day focus on Monday 29 th October was Mindset and Mindfulness. I shared a video clip with the staff about how children are affected by social media pressures. The staff found the video really interesting and it made them think about their lives. I would like to share the video with you and hope you find it useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLhxo3xFwQU I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the fireworks! Everyday millions of sea creatures are dying because of plastic pollution. It is because some

people are too lazy to recycle! Plastic travels in the ocean and fish and other sea creatures eat it

Our value of the month is Resilience In January 2010, Haiti was hit by a huge earthquake which left the

Caribbean country devastated. However, in an amazing example of

resilience, the country’s artists used their limited resources to channel the

nation’s suffering, hope and anxiety into new paintings, crafts and

sculptures.

They created a market for post-earthquake Haitian art, particularly in the United States. Recently, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., opened an exhibit of post-earthquake paintings and drawings by Haitian children. The Miami International Airport opened an exhibit featuring works created by Haitian artists in the wake of the disaster. The 4,000-square-foot gallery features voodoo flags made with beads and sequins, intricate metal carvings made from flattened oil drums and carnival masks made from papier-mâché. “This exhibition is a testament to their optimism,” said Yolanda Sanchez, the airport’s fine-arts director. That optimism has helped the country survive its difficult history. Yet out of this misery has grown a rich artistic tradition. “Haiti doesn’t have car factories. It doesn’t have steel plants,” says Richard Kurin, the undersecretary for history, art, and culture at the Smithsonian. “Culture is one of the few resources Haitians have. Art has become a way for them to preserve their dignity.” (Mrs Whitehouse)

Cooking Lessons Each week Niya, Leandro, Iby and Zenni take part in a cooking lesson. This helps them develop cross curricular skills, while also teaching the children to develop their ability to speak, listen and cooperate in a group. This week the children made cheese squares and a cinnamon and raisin roll, which tasted delicious! The children really look forward to cooking each week, as you can see in the photographs. COME AND CELEBRATE DIWALI WITH US: WHEN: FRIDAY 9th November 2018 TIME: 9am - 10.30am WHERE: Infant Dining Hall Diwali (or sometimes called Deepavali) is the "Festival of Lights. The festival is celebrated

by lighting diva’s, decorating home fronts with ‘Rangoli’, dressing up, exchanging sweets

and gifts with family and lighting fireworks to mark the start of the Hindu new year.

Please come along, savour some Indian snacks, have some tea/coffee/juice and celebrate

Diwali with us, be part of the spirit of giving and sharing. Governors, Senior staff and EPSA

representatives will also be there for you to meet.

If you would like to bring in any Indian sweets or savouries to share for the event, these

would be very much welcomed - please bring these in on the morning of the 9th but please

ensure that they are nut free. Dressing up in your glamour and sequins is optional but the

brighter the better!

At Eversley we are committed in engaging parents and giving them a voice in order to

strengthen the relationship between staff and parents and in turn make Eversley even better

place for the children. As a step towards this commitment we invite parents to take lead in

organising events that will bring our community together.

The senior leadership team, members of the governing body and EPSA would like this to be

the start of many cultural celebrations that we promote moving forward and we welcome

parents to take a lead in sharing their culture, festivals that will bring our Eversley

community together. So if you are interested in getting involved in this initiative or for future

events please contact our parent governor Prafulla Pujara via the school office

[email protected] and we will contact you to discuss your ideas further. Last

years' event would not have been such a success without the parent’s support so we

appreciate your involvement!

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all on Friday 9th November . Younger siblings

welcome.

(We speak French here)

Eversley Primary School has applied for and received European Union Erasmus+ programme funding

to carry out a two year French project Ici on parle français. The aims of this project are to develop

the quality of teaching and learning of French throughout the school with extension to our local

community, and to further develop our creative curriculum across all subjects. As part of this project,

Eversley staff will have the opportunity to travel to France to attend language and cultural courses

and we will link with a partner school in Paris, connecting classrooms and sharing pupils’ learning. By

the end of the project we will have a school that is confident in speaking French and enjoys and

embraces French culture.

In the October half term break, Mrs Douglas-Saul, Ms Lauder, Miss Malone and Mrs

Ocran took part in a French language and culture course in Prades, a town in the Mediterranean

Pyrenees in the south of France. The course was immersive with a mixture of classroom learning and

plenty of opportunities to practise French with local people at the market, in shops and during

cultural and historical excursions. The teachers thoroughly enjoyed the course and their experience

will be used to enrich French teaching and learning across the school. (Mrs Douglas-Saul)

French phrase of the fortnight:

- Comment ça va ?

- Ça va très bien / pas mal / pas

bien.

“How are you?”

“I am very well / not bad / not well.

Year 2 Forest School On Wednesday afternoon, 2O had a wonderful time exploring the pumpkin fruit. The children chopped pumpkins and onions to make the most delicious soup. They then gathered tinder, kindling and larger fuel to make a fire to cook their soup. Some children enjoyed hammering nails into their pumpkins and weaving wool to design their own shapes and patterns. All the children sampled the soup around the fire and shared their learning. Special thanks go to volunteers Helen Shore and Anna Reekie. (Mrs Turner)

Winter Card Designs

Your children will be bringing home a sample of their Christmas/Winter card designs today. If you would like to order your child's design, all orders must be completed online only by 8th November 2018 at the latest to ensure free delivery to the school. Unfortunately, due to a printing error, some classes have the incorrect class name on the back of the card. We have made the printing company aware of the issue and these will be rectified on any cards ordered for these classes. Please also be advised that if your child's name is currently incorrect on the back of their card you will be able to amend/edit this when making your online order. Thank you, I hope you enjoy seeing your children's wonderful artwork! (Mrs Whitehouse)

We would like to wish Sofia (1M), Theodore, Oscar & Zahid (2F), Rachel (3SK)

& Meisha (5B) a very Happy Birthday

We hope you had a great day. Thank you for donating a birthday book to your class.
