FARO Box

The programs DistToPlan, TachyCAD, PhoToPlan,hylasFM, MonuMap and PointSense are all part ofthe FARO Box and can be embedded as AutoCADapplications in the following versions of AutoCAD:

VirtuSurv

The software VirtuSurv is a stand-aloneWindows program, which can work togetherwith - along with other Windows programs -AutoCAD (LT) 2015-2018 or BricsCAD® V14-V18(64 bit).

VirtuSurv supports the following operatingsystems:

Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 (64 bit)

PointSense for Revit

The software PointSense for Revit is a Revitapplication and can be installed for Revit 2015 -2018. You can use the Autodesk products RevitArchitecture, Revit MEP, Revit Structure or thecomplete Revit version from the Building DesignSuite.

You need the operating system, Windows 7, 8,8.1 or 10 in the 64-bit version.

Please take note that we cannot offer any supportfor combinations of a Revit version and an operatingsystem which are not supported by Autodesk.

Installation and Start

The installation of the software consists of a numberof steps which have to be carried out in sequence.Administrator privileges are required for theinstallation.

Note: Please ensure that the hardware protection(CodeMeter dongle) that you have already receivedis not yet plugged in, as it can lead to problemswhen trying to identify the hardware.

Installation of the FARO Box

The current setup files of the FARO Box productscan be downloaded from the FARO internet site:

Run the setup file by double clicking it and thenfollow the instructions of the installation wizard.

During the installation process you will be requestedto select the AutoCAD version for which you want toinstall the FARO Box.

Should you want to install several versions of aFARO Box, youmust create a separate folder foreach version. Thereby you can use differentversions (e.g. for AutoCAD 2015 and 2018) inparallel. The setup wizard helps you to do this.

When youwant to use several FARO AutoCADapplications of the same version in a single AutoCADsession you can embed them in your AutoCAD (LT)from the

Product Manager

by using the application command (KUBT_CONFIG_PRODUCTS). A new installation of the FARO Box isnot necessary. You can find further information inthe FARO Box Installation Guide.

Setting up the FARO Box in AutoCAD andAutoCAD LT

In the situation where you already have previousversions of FARO applications older thanVersion15 (formerly kubit) installed on your computer, firstremove them from your AutoCAD (LT)environment. Please read the corresponding sectionin the FARO Box Installation Guide.

After a successful installation you can start AutoCAD(LT). Should the following security message bedisplayed you can simply confirm it by clicking[Load].

Should a message be displayed saying that a newFARO Box version has been found and asks if youwant to load it, Confirm the message with [Yes].Confirm you adaptation with [YES].

Should the message not be automatically displayedthen enter the command "KUBT_SELECT_KUBIT_

BOX_VERSION" in the AutoCAD (LT) command line.The following dialogue box appears:

Select which version of the FARO Box is to be loadedand confirm it with [OK]. In order that changes willbe effective please restart AutoCAD (LT).

Your FARO Box product has now been successfullyembedded in AutoCAD (LT) and is ready to be used.The associatedmenus will be automatically loaded.These can be seen in the automatically inserted toolbars or on the ribbon or the corresponding entry inthe menu bar.

Should the menus not have been correctly loaded,please start the Product Manager from thecommand line of AutoCAD (LT) with the command“KUBT_CONFIG_PRODUCTS”. Readmore on this inthe FARO Box Installation Guide.

You can embed further FARO Box products into yourAutoCAD (LT) by using the Product Manager.

Installation of VirtuSurv

If you want to use VirtuSurv together with aPointSense product, you can optionally install theVirtuSurv software during the installation ofPointSense.

The current setup files of VirtuSurv can bedownloaded from the FARO internet site:

setups.faro3dsoftware.com

Run the setup file by double clicking it and thenfollow the instructions of the installation wizard.

First Start up of VirtuSurv

Please, make sure the dongle is inserted in yourcomputer and start VirtuSurv.

If you have a dongle with a valid licence, youmaynow start working with VirtuSurv.

If you do not have a dongle with a valid licence, youwill see the Product Manager dialogue boxwhen starting VirtuSurv. Here you can configure the

search options for the VirtuSurv version purchased.You can find further information in the VirtuSruvmanual.

Without a licence youmay use VirtuSurv in Viewermode.

Installation of PointSense for Revit

The current setup files of PointSense for Revit canbe downloaded from the FARO internet site:

setups.faro3dsoftware.com

Run the setup file by double clicking it and thenfollow the instructions of the installation wizard.

Start Revit after the installation is complete. The"PointSense" tab appears automatically in the userinterface of Revit. Should this not be the case, youcan also manually load PointSense for Revit intoRevit. Readmore on this in the PointSense forRevit manual.

Installing the dongle

The FARO software products are protected by adongle against unlawful use. This so-calledCodeMeter is available in different types:

CodeMeterUSB stick

CodeMeterMini USB stick

CodeMeterExpressCard

The driver software for the dongle is automaticallyinstalled during the setup.

By the delivery of the software the dongle containsno activated licence file! Please download yourcurrent licence file from the following web page:

license.faro3dsoftware.com

You can find the serial number on your dongle.

Now connect the dongle to the appropriate port forthe type of dongle being used. Thereafter themessage window "Auto run" might be displayed:

Close the window without selecting any option orselect "Do not execute any action".

To activate the licence on the dongle, run thedownloaded licence file by double clicking it.

When starting AutoCAD or Revit with an embeddedapplication, the dongle will be automaticallyrecognised and you can immediately start using thecommands of the application.

With a perpetual licence the dongle will functionwithout having to do anything else. For temporarylicences, after a certain period of time the dongleneeds brief access to the internet in order to certifyits own clock time. If the dongle has connection tothe web this process runs unnoticed in thebackground. If no internet connection is available(usually when being used in the field for a longertime) after a certain period a message pops upwhich prompts you to run the certification within thenext X days. You now still have X days left toconnect your computer to the internet for onemoment. The certification of the dongle time is doneautomatically when starting VirtuSurv, AutoCAD orRevit with an embedded application.

The licence status that is saved on the dongle can beaccessed using the application command "Licencemanagement …".

To manage the licences saved on your dongle or toset up a network dongle please read the sectionsin the FARO Box Installation Guide orVirtuSurv or PointSense for Revit manual.

What's to do next?The software is now completely installed.Experienced users can now immediately start work.

For newcomers we recommend the "Gettingstarted" tutorials, which will be displayed to youthe first time you start the software, as well asreading the manual. In that way you get the firstimpressions of how to work with the application.

Complete explanations of the individual commandsare to found in the Command Reference part ofthe manual. You can open the help topics directlyfrom the command dialogue box by clicking on thehelp symbol:

ManualsEach product has a comprehensive manual,which is constantly being updated andtherefore exists only as a PDF file.

To be able to view such a PDF manual you needAdobe Reader. A recent version of the AdobeReader can be found in the FAROUSB stick underAdobe Reader or get the newest version from theinternet www.adobe.com. You can also usealternative PDF viewers, however in such cases wecannot guarantee an error free viewing of the file.

The easiest way to open the manual is to startAutoCAD (LT), Revit or VirtuSurv and click in theproduct menu on "Manual".
