    Roy KeaneOctober 6, 2009

Roy Keane is a fascinating subject in himself. In fact, I could dedicate a whole blog to him. His

whole sporting career has been shrouded in controversy, no mean personal trait to have if youwant to reap the benefits from a life in the public arena.

Keane's an enigma - no doubt about it. From time to time, to relieve boredom, I'll allow myself

a little comment, both on his past endeavors and his future ones.

But for now, I've provided a link below, is a little exchange Roy had at the weekend with a

reporter when questioned about his future as Ipswich Town Manager. It opened up a multitude ofquestions to me, but the one I just can't answer is Does Roy Keane use Just for Men?

    Vincent Browne for President

    Facebook Launch

    October 9, 2009.

There is not a lot of things that can't be found on Facebook. There are groups for just about

everything. I'd say some people spend their days doing nothing but setting up groups. But groupsare nothing without membership, so tonight I took the liberty of launching the Vincent Browne

    For President Facebook Group.

The idea is simple. Like myself. It's two years to the next election for the office. So instead of

having to choose between the candidates they force on us, the idea is to make an effort to gatherenough numbers and messages to convince Vincent to run. Booker needs a goal in life. If we get

the support, the rest will take care of itself.

    President Browne

Presidential campaigns in the United States start over a year before any election, so i don't see

why we can't get started early. Why am I endorsing Vincent Browne? Right now, I can't find a

better candidate that's in the spotlight and I think he would be a favourite across the class dividein the country.

Bridging that gap is the key to a more fair and equal society, so what better man than Vinnie to

begin bridging that gap. Plus he would be a great ambassador for the country, popular inpresidential circles so long as he ain't debating with any of them.

I believe this is the first time a presidential campaign has been launched by a third-party onFacebook on behalf of someone else.

Don Booker. Creating history. When he can.

Barack Obama Lands Nobel Peace Prize

    October 9, 2009

Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize. Does life get any better for the great hope? Some

though are on the side that the award is unjustified, given the fact his nomination for the prize

had to be made before he was even in office two weeks. Others cite the fact he has been onlynine months in that office.

Obama genuinely seemed humbled by the honour bestowed on him in a statement he gave from

the Rose Garden yesterday. His heart seems in the right place, despite so many people lining up

to put him down. Some say he is a socialist, looking and seeking a fairer America for his people. Some say he is weakening Capitalist America by some of his ideals.

Obama's presidency will be judged at the end of its tenure. Only then people can look back at histime there and make judgement.

In Booker's opinion a far more deserved winner would have been Morgan Tsvangirai. Perhaps

Obama's time could have waited. Does it take away from the prestige of the award that Obama

has been honoured so soon? Probably but it's press for the foundation, in a world where pressat times is king.

    Ireland Secure Play-off Place

    October 10, 2009

Ireland fought and came within a whisker of turning over world champions Italy tonight. But like

my marriage, it was not to be. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.

At the start of the campaign I felt Ireland would struggle to get to this stage. But they have andplaudits must be given to them all. In honesty, it's not a great Irish team. We've had better in the

past in my opinion. Houghton, Whelen, McGrath, Keano and Quinn for example. So i think this

team has achieved in getting this far.

Shay Given, Robbie Keane and Richard Dunne would all start in Booker's all-time Irish eleven.

Those apart though, we're average. To secure a place in South Africa would be an over-

achievement and one that will be met with much frolicking as it was in 1990, 1994, and 2002.Best days of me life.

Stephen Gately Slips AwayOctober 11, 2009

It's the stuff dreams are made of. Five lads from North Dublin under the stewardship of awannabe music manager from the west of Ireland pick themselves up from the Late Late Show

studio floor and go on to achieve pop super-stardom both in Ireland and The UK.

So it shocks to hear this morning of the death of one of its members, Stephen Gately at the

tragically young age of 33. Gately not only was a successful member of the band, but did muchfor gay people in Ireland when he came out during his time in the band. That could not have been

an easy thing to do in a country still stigmatized by its out-dated Catholic believes.Death so young is always hard to take. Happens more often that we think. At times like today, I

guess it comes down to what a person leaves behind.

    The Quotes of Albert Einstein

    October 24, 2009

Note: This list of Einstein quotes was being forwarded around the Internet in e-mail, so I decided

to put it on my web page. I'm afraid I can't vouch for its authenticity, tell you where it came

from, who compiled the list, who Kevin Harris is, or anything like that. All Mr. Harris asked wasto be credited.

    Collected Quotes from Albert Einstein

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of

genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction."

"Imagination is more important than knowledge.""The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax."

"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."

"The only real valuable thing is intuition."

"A person starts to live when he can live outside himself."

"Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character.""I never think of the future. It comes soon enough."

"Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing."

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind."

"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new."

"Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from weak minds."

"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it."

"The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.""The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education."

"The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking."

"Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding."

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."

"The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.""Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater."

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the theuniverse."

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought

with sticks and stones.""Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the

name of patriotism -- how passionately I hate them!"

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art andall science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand

rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."

    Deathly Quotes

"He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been

given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace

to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate allthis, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base

an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder."

"A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind

of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to

our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to freeourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures

and the whole of nature in its beauty."

    Albert Einstein

Still residing in a lab jar somewhere...

"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts."

    Smug Time

    October 25, 2009

31.35 million is the sum in expenses paid out to the people we vote into power in order to keep

this great country of ours on the straight and narrow. That's AFTER we pay them their inflated

wages.Surprisingly, from the prospective that he will more than likely be our next taoiseach of the

land and really should be setting an example, Enda Kenny is one of the top-10 claimants.

    Top 10, hey...

So it is not surprising after all that Enda only called for the head of John O 'Junket' Donaghue's,

after Eamon Gilmore decided to do so firstly. I'm glad I called for Jod's head before either of

    these people did.

Enda's attempt this week to out do Gilmore in the leader-in-waiting stakes with his proposal todisband the Seanad was nothing more than a weak attempt at playing catch-up.

What is Ireland facing into over this next decade? I'm glad all this living alone means I don't

frighten too easily. If I did, it could be the stuff of comic book legend. Hard-boil, from the mindof Frank Miller or Alan Moore. With a little twist of Foster and Allen.

    The Comic in Black

    October 27, 2009

Sometimes in life, a human does manage to grace her shore, leaves a mark on people before

leaving for the outer universe. Bill Hicks was such a man.

Bill Hicks was an American stand up comic who specialized in social commentary. Watchinghis act it is my own take that he hated the very existence of humanity in it's present state and

chose comedy as the equalizer to see him through. Bill called it as he saw it, unafraid and did not

give any thought to what people or indeed society thought of him.

He was a controversial figure often chastised by those self-proclaimed moral superiors of society, whoever the fuck died and made them so!

Did Bill care? Not for the charlatans of that I'm sure.

Hicks held a demeanor which did little to mask the pain of his existence. Watching himperform, there is almost a sense of sorrow. Whatever it was that made him so, did a pretty good

    job.

Bill was an abuser of substance at times and also a faithful smoker, but those familiar with his

legend will know that. He died of cancer shortly after giving them up.Absurdity...

Some of his commentaries make for the stuff of legend. Many tried and have copied his act.

None were Bill Hicks. Below are a few of his quotes. There is also a wealth of visual material onYouTube. In an age of political correctness, Bill Hicks was a welcome addition.

    * Leon was an anti-hero. Never lived a day not doing what he wanted to do. And when thatbecame a melting pot he took care of it.

He never mentioned Bill Hicks to me in conversation, so I'm not sure if he ever knew of his

existence. I would think that if he did he would have mentioned him. Leon always put me wise topeople he felt mattered. Hunter S. Thompson, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain and Hugh Everett.

There were many. I only know this much, Leon would have liked him.

    It's Just a Ride

'Folks, it's time to evolve. That's why we're troubled. You know why our institutions are failingus, the church, the state, every thing's failing? It's because, um they're no longer relevant. We're

supposed to keep evolving. Evolution did not end with us growing opposable thumbs. You do

know that, right? There's another 90 percent of our brains that we have to illuminate...

'You see, I think drugs have done some good things for us. I really do. And if you don't believe

drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor. Go home tonight. Take all your albums, allyour tapes and all your CDs and burn them. 'Cause you know what, the musicians that made all

that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years were rrreal fucking high on

drugs. The Beatles were so fucking high they let Ringo sing a few tunes'.

'They proved that if you quit smoking, it will prolong your life. What they haven't proved is that

a prolonged life is a good thing. I haven't seen the stats on that yet'.
