ANGELUS

Some of you may have heard of the beauti-fulCescena si Maria, the Angelus in Slovanian. It is so beautiful and so common at funeral services that some people thought it was the

national anthem for Slovania. It is the Angelus prayer. This prayer is very important for us Catholics. For a while it was encouraged and in practice prayed three times a day. The praying of the Angelus would correspond with the ringing of the Church bells. Many in the fields would hear the bells and stop work and pray the Angelus. Through the message of the angel, an incredible reality was made mani-fest. We must rekindle this custom to enable us to realize that at Christmas, our Salvation entered into our nature. Christ became flesh, and his becoming flesh was made know by the message of an angel and he was born of Mary.

The Annunciation to Mary inaugurates "the fullness of time", (Gal. 4:4) the time of the fulfilment of God's prom-ises and preparations. Mary was invited to conceive him in whom the "whole fullness of deity" would dwell "bodily"( Col. 2:9). The divine response to her question, "How can this be, since I know not man?", was given by the power of the Spirit: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you" Luke 1:3435, Catechism of Catholic Church 484. .

Pray the Angelus as you prepare for Christmas.

THE ANGELUSThe Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:

And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.Hail Mary,

Behold the handmaid of the Lord:Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary . . .And the Word was made Flesh:

And dwelt among us.Hail Mary . . .

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His

Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.Amen.

mon, Connor Heaton, Samuel Jacobsen, Kash Ko-land, Takera Lappi, Autumn Linder, Ava Olson, Hanley Ortiz, Corbin Pearson, Gabrielle Pearson, Julian Perez, Lauren Ringhofer, Jillian Taylor, May they continue to seek the healing mercies of this beautiful sacrament!

Hey, Hey, Hey, Pray, Pray, PrayMany of you know that I started school for my Master’s Degree about two years ago. After be-ing out of college for about 15 years, I can safely say this took quite an adjustment for me to go back. College has changed since I was there last.

The cost is significantly more than I remember. For the first time in all of my years in school, I had to take out loans to be able to cover the cost of continuing my education. I appealed to the CREED Fund, which assists in making many miracles happen for people and parishes in need. I would like to thank the CREED Fund for supporting me by covering half of my tuition cost during the school year. Without their help, it would not have been possible for me to have gone back to school.

This also struck another chord with me. I at least have a means to be able to afford something for school. What about all of those kids out there that are just coming out of high school and will be sending themselves into thousands of dol-lars of debt before they see any return on their investments. Last year, Assumption Catholic School started a scholarship for seniors that were moving on to college. We were able to collect and distribute 3,000 dollars last year thanks to three very generous donors. In the next week, I will be composing a letter along with a scholarship application for any students that attended Assumption and are graduating this year. A point system will be established based on years at Assump-tion, activities they are involved in, in what ways they have been involved in their church, and an essay on how Assump-tion has helped them along the way. Monetary amounts will be distributed based on interest and response.

I am thankful to be able to give back to the students that gave so much to us when attending Assumption School. Even if the scholarship covers one semester of books, it saves these students from higher loans that can take decades to pay back. These students continue to give back to their old school by helping with events such as our Halloween party, Christmas events, and Catholic School Week. It is inspiring to see these “kids” come back to help out with events that they themselves used to enjoy. Thank you to all of our alum-ni, young and old, that have continued to support Assump-tion School. Good luck to our scholarship applicants!

In closing, I would also like to thank the CREED Fund for offering us $2,981 dollars in tuition assistance for our chil-dren. With their help, we were able to give assistance to a family that would not have been able to come to Assumption otherwise. The CREED Fund generously supports each Catholic school in the Diocese of Duluth yearly in tuition assistance.
