"We make assumptions about what we willsee, what we will experience. And when youadd the desire not to carry a bunch of gear, orget wet, or just the desire to stay in and reada book, and it’s easy to miss these things –small moments of “what if”, small chances atsomething great. You never know if you nevergo, say my Aussie friends. Take the chance.Peer around the corner. “It is light that reveals, light that obscures, light that communicates. It is light I “listen”to. The light late in the day has a distinctquality, as it fades toward the darkness ofevening. After sunset there is a gentle leavingof the light, the air begins to still, and a quietdescends. I see magic in the quiet light ofdusk. I feel quite, yet intense energy in thenatural elements of our habitat. A sense ofmagic prevails. A sense of mystery. It is atime for contemplation, for listening – a timefor making photographs.”

Minutes of the PSCC Board Meeting on November 20, 2017The meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm. Present were Lauren Heerschap, Henry Heerschap, Mary Tevis, Al Koskie, DavePatzwald. and Margery Robison. A motion was made to approve the minutes taken on September 18, 2017; the motion was sec-onded and passed. There was no Board of Directors meeting in October. There will also be no Board of Directors meeting in De-cember.

VICE-PRESIDENT'S REPORT: The field trip on Saturday, October 14, 2017, to the Museum of Flight in Seattle was a success. Thanks to Bob Joiner for arranging a table where we could all meet for lunch. The field trip to the wheel in downtown Seattle onNovember 19 was also a success. Al Koskie reports 9 people showed up from MeetUp in the pouring rain. Details for the Decem-ber field trip to the Bellevue Botanical Gardens for the Christmas lights will be emailed to the members. A discussion was heldregarding other trips and the need for suggestions for 2018. It was decided to host a trip to the Museum of History and Industryin January. We need a trip leader for it. The trip to Roy for the rodeo in June will be announced when details are firmed up. Wewelcome any suggestions for field trips.

The next education night is in January and our speaker will be Tim Boyer, who is a bird photographer. The April education nightwill have Brad Husick on tabletop photography. It was decided to put these in MeetUp as they are well attended and help defraythe cost of the speaker.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Yvonne Shimek reports that as of October 31, 2017, there is a balance of $2446.61 in the club checkingaccount. A motion was made to accept the treasurer's report, seconded and passed.

NEW BUSINESS: It was decided to hold a brief slideshow to commemorate George Ferrara's life and photography at the Christ-mas Banquet in December. Henry Heerschap volunteered to put some of George's images together in the slideshow. It was de-cided to show it after the dinner and before the gift exchange. We also are going to put the Christmas Banquet on MeetUp asthe attendance last year was very sparse. The banquet hours are as follows: December 11, 5:30 decorations and setup; 6:00 ap-petizers; 6:30 dinner; 7:30 gift exchange. It is a potluck, so the members are asked to sign up to bring a dish. We are planning tomatch any donations with funds from the club for the church for their Friday night dinners for the needy (up to $250), so dig inyour pockets!

This print night will also be combined with the digital night as last digital night had to be cancelled due to the storm. The digitalimages will be shown as usual. The prints will be laid out on tables at the back, judged, and voted on for most popular. The trav-eling print salon will be on separate tables and are also to be voted on.

Lauren Heerschap, the Chair of the Northwest Council of Camera Clubs, wishes to thank all members who helped at the Novem-ber 11, 2017 conference.

Thanks to Henry Heerschap who subbed for digital director Dave Patzwald in October as Dave Patzwald was out of town.

Henry Heerschap had business cards made for the club. We would encourage the members to take a few cards and pass themout to potential members for the club.

We recently received an email from someone who had decided not to renew their membership with PSCC. He had several con-cerns, including the way we handle judging and commentary during Digital Night. He felt the commentary had an undue influ-ence on the judging and would have liked to have seen us hold off on the commentary until the judges had completed theirscoring. This is how we used to do it. We had changed it in the interest of moving things along more quickly. In January we willstart experimenting with putting the slide up, giving judges 20 seconds to score, then Dave will say "finished" or something likethat so the commentator knows to start speaking. The commentator will have to keep it short. The score and photographer'sname will then be announced as usual. Dave and perhaps others are going to look at how other clubs do this. We also agreedthat taking scores and commentary too seriously is problematic as it is so subjective and the judges and commentators varyfrom month to month. The goal for the individual submitting a photo is to learn from the comments. Another thought was tohave some sort of junior and senior divisions related to photographic experience. We also praised Lauren's thoughtful and kind response to the letter.

We also discussed the 20 minute education periods at the end of print night and came up with several suggestions. We will belooking for more members willing to make presentations.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Tevis, Secretary
