Message from the PresidentHi PSCC,

This is my last President’s letter. The best part of being President for the last four years is getting to know the members of thisclub. It has been an honor to serve you. You are truly a great group of people! It has been an excellent experience to see so manyof your images, pun intended, “develop” and improve. Someone said our club has the right mix of seriousness and humor. I haveto say that we do have fun!

You are all invited to the Year End Party on June 25, 2018. Come to the potluck and see the slideshow of the Year-End Competi-tion winners and a display of winning prints. We will also have a presentation completed by UW student Kelsey Barnes on thededication of Paul Kovac and Shirley Kovac’s work. They were both long time members of PSCC.

I am very confident that the candidate for President the nominating committee has found will be amazing. Margie Robison as theVice President has run meetings, organized and led field trips and attended every Board meeting. She will do a great job. Pleasesupport her as you have done for me.

Now we need to find a Vice President! It might be possible to share this position’s responsibilities. The Vice President organizesthe field trips and Education Night. Our by-laws say there is one person, but perhaps one could be designated to run meetingswhen the President is not available and take half of the field trip responsibilities while the other helps with other field trips andEducation Nights. Please consider contacting the nominating committee for further information or with ideas on who could dothis for the club.

The Northwest Council is having a Printing and Matting Workshop on June 9, 2018. Cost is $15. Go to http://nwcameraclubs.organd register. The workshop will be held at OneLife Community Church, 3524 NE 95th St., Seattle. The morning will be a presenta-tion by Daniel Gregory, on printing and color management. There is an option for a $5. lunch of Costco pizza and soda. The after-noon is led by Jerry Dunbar with a hands-on workshop on mat cutting. Jerry used to own a frame shop. Bring a 5x7 photo, matboard and a mat cutter if you have one. The ability to cut your own mats is a great price saver!

Print workshop with Daniel Gregory and Jerry Dunbar June 9 10 AM to 3 PM $15OneLife Community Church 3524 NE 95th St, SeattleFor many photographers, the print still represents the culmination of the photographic act. This presentation isabout how to setup to make best print possible. Rather than focusing on techniques to edit images in Lightroomand Photoshop, this presentation is about what happens before we start to edit an image and what happenswith the printer settings that can impact our printing. Over the course of the presentation, we break the print-ing process down into a few key areas in an attempt to simplify the process and still make sure that you get thebest print possible. We start with by diving into proper color management and working environments and howthose impact the printing process. We will then look how to maximize your printing for both Epson and Canonprinters using both Lightroom, Photoshop, and third party printing options for both color and black and whiteprinting. Finally, we will close out the presentation with how to troubleshoot and maintain your printers for op-timal performance.

Post-processing photos in the digital age is a mixed bag for many of us. Some of us absolutely loathe it, others(like me, I admit) really enjoy it, and most are somewhere in between. It can be argued that some basic thingsneed to be done on every image that we want to share with others. Minutes of the PSCC Board of Directors Meeting on May 21, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM. Present were Lauren Heerschap, Henry Heerschap, Mary Tevis, Dave Patz-wald, Margery Robison, and Mukul Soman.

A motion was made to approve the minutes taken on March 19, 2018; the motion was seconded and passed.

VICE-PRESIDENT'S REPORT on Field Trips: The Dunn Gardens field trip was very successful. We had a good turnout fromour club. It was suggested that we meet there in the fall for fall colors. The Roy Rodeo has been pushed to fall, and itwas suggested that since there are a lot people out of town and on vacation in the summer, that field trips will be re-sumed in September.Education Night: July education night will host Bill Royce, who will present Image Analysis. The April education night,who hosted John Cornicello, was attended by 20 people.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Yvonne Shimek sent in a financial report as of June 2018. A motion was made to accept the trea-surer's report, seconded and passed.

NEW BUSINESS: There was a discussion concerning the ribbons for Year End. We will continue with Print, 1st, 2nd and3rd place, Digital 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, Print of the Year, Digital of the Year, and one for Photojournalism, which is digi-tal only, and will be awarded the Ray Thorsteinson Photojournalism Award. The other awards: the Mentor Plaque, whichis in honor of George Ferrara, the Ainsworth Service Award, which is awarded by the president of PSCC, were discussed,along with who should be the recipients. Rosemarie Ferrara sent a check to cover the award for the Ferrara MentorPlaque.

Nominating Committee: Mukul Soman had volunteered for the Presidency; however, as he has just been promoted inhis work, he has to work on Monday evening and has withdrawn from candidacy. The Board is also looking for a volun-teer to help with print night.

The Year-End potluck was discussed, and it was decided to let Emily Patzwald, the refreshment chair, decide what needsto be done.

There was a discussion about the Kovacs. Kelsey, the student from the UW who currently has the printed images, willpresent a 10-15 minute presentation, after dinner and before the awards.

Dave Patzwald has judges lined up for judging the year-end digital awards, and Al Koskie is still looking for a judge forthe prints. Henry and Lauren Heerschap will collect any prints offered, taken between May 2017 through April 2018, tobe offered for year-end judging and awards so that members can turn them in up till May 31, 2018.

Henry Heerschap, our web master, said that we need an SSL Certificate for the website, using encryption for securityand other purposes. It will cost approximately $60 more a year. It was moved that PSCC "migrate to SiteGround for host-ing to begin in June so we can provided encryption on the web." It was seconded, and passed.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:53 PM.
