FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
FOCUS: Jesus has come to us as our King and Shepherd.
In a few days, we will celebrate the great gift that God has given to humanity two thousand years ago: the gift of Jesus. Jesus comes as Savior of the world and as the majestic King – but also as a Shepherd who cares deeply and personally for each one of us on our journey. He is truly God’s gift to us. LITURGY OF THE WORD
In the first reading, Micah prophesies that tiny Bethlehem will be the birthplace of the Messiah, a great ruler for all time. Paul reflects on Jesus’ offering of himself and his obedience to God’s will, through which we are consecrated. The Gospel depicts Mary’s visit to Elizabeth, who recognizes Mary’s role as Mother of God.

Daily Reflections for Advent & Christmas Week 4
Sunday Dec. 23–Impossible Faith in an Inexplicable God– “Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:24) Prayer: Holy Mothers Mary & Elizabeth, obtain for us the gift of faith that sustains Christmas joy even
when circumstances challenge it, and the gift of courage to face the challenge.
Monday Dec. 24-I Promise! – “I will raise up your heir after you...and I will make his Kingdom firm. I will be a father to him, and he shall
be a son to me. Your house & your Kingdom shall endure forever before me; you throne shall stand firm forever.” (2 Sm 7:12, 14a) Prayer:
Jesus Christ, the promised light & peace, come to us again in the approaching night, & shine within & among us for all time!
Tuesday Dec. 25-How Many Syllables Has Love– All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God. (responsorial psalm re-
frain; cf. Ps 98:3) Prayer: Jesus Christ, Word of God made flesh, speak your word of God’s love in us and through us. Teach us to hear it as
it is spoken in and through others. Make all of us your living vocabulary of love.
Wednesday Dec. 26-First Light & Last– Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord: the Lord is God & has given us light.
(Alleluia verse, Ps 118:26a,27a) Prayer: O Jesus Christ, Light of the World, born for us in Bethlehem & our guide & companion ever since,
strengthen our faith to recognize & follow you wherever you lead us, trusting that you will be with us to the end—& beyond.
Thursday Dec. 27-Page Turner- [W]hat we have seen with our eyes, what we looked upon & touched with our hands concerns the
Word of life—for the life was made visible; we have seen it and testify to it. (1 Jn 1:1b-2b) Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, made flesh for us,
crucified for us, raised up again for us, walk with us through our whole story, from conception to the place beyond the grave!
Friday Dec. 28-Dangerous Child – [Herod] ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem & its vicinity two
years old & under. (Matt 2:16) Prayer: God of all times & seasons, turn all our energies to the service of the future
you desire as we pray, “Thy kingdom come.”
Saturday Dec. 29-The Constant Future- “Lord, now let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled: my
own eyes have seen the salvation which you prepared in the sight of every people.” (Luke 2:29-31) Prayer: God of
past and future, grant us the insight & courage to walk wisely into the future you have entrusted to us through those
who have gone before, that we may also leave a legacy of wisdom & hope to the next generation.
