Defending My Design

Why the color(s)?

The blues, red and blacks are supposed to produce a sort of mystical or surreal atmosphere of sorts. This establishes the logo as something unique that isn’t just a blue fancy letter like a lot of logos.

Why the shape(s)?

All the shapes are also related to something unordinary. Stars are, of course, representative of magic, the red and black yin-yang is a variant of yin-yangs that correspond to eastern religions, and eyes are just weird, as well as being used in pop culture as Illuminati symbols.

Why the quote?

The quote from MOTHER 3 is found when you, of course, examine a sign. Since most signs give messages showing you where to go or something like that, this sort of sign is unexpected. It’s subverting what is commonly expected to be on a sign as well as providing a silly heartwarming moment, and establishes a unique nature not found in most things.

Why the picture?

Well, obviously, it’s a sign. But more than that, the sign’s letters are faded and it seems very, very old. Thusly, it corresponds with the quote in showing that this sign is old and unread, and it probably really would love you for reading it.

Why the font?

The font is from the same game that the quote originates from. Besides the connection with people who get the reference, said game has this sort of wacky but not annoying humor throughout it’s entirety, so the font and quote are thematically linked by the same styling of silliness.

Why the font color?

Mostly, the colors are just for readability. The darker part near the top has very light text, the lighter part near the bottom has very dark text. The red text in the quotation part reflects the title screen of the MOTHER games being red. I didn’t set out to make this whole thing a giant MOTHER homage, but it kinda fell into place that way.
