DEFINITION

Windows XP is an operating system produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers,

including home and business desktops, laptops and media centers. First released to computer

manufacturers on August 24, 2001, it is the second most popular version of Windows, based on installed

user base. The name "XP" is short for "eXPerience",highlighting the enhanced user experience.

Function Windows XP

Windows XP is a graphical user interface (GUI) as well as a computer operating system. An

Operating system functions by managing a large number of different processes (or XP system services of

which there are about 90).

Example

To manage attached hardware: such as mouse pointers, keyboards, graphics card, displayscreen, speakers. To identify these components in order that they can communicate with each

other to act as an autonomous system.

To create new files, files to be edited, for files to be moved or copied or too delete unused orold files. To write new files to the disk, save a file.

To manage network connectivity such as internet connections or LAN network connections
