Bachelor of Design ( interior Design) - a Degree in excellence @ Design centre enmore2

Since 1891, Sydney Institute has established an enviable reputation for offering unrivalled education and training, to meet the skills needs of Australia’s creative industries.

Our formula for success is simple: provide high quality training, taught by industry leading design professionals, and prepare graduates to excel in the fast-paced and highly competitive creative labour market.

It’s what Sydney Institute does best!

the Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) is a three-year, career-oriented higher education program that will prepare students for employment in the interior design industry in australia and internationally. it offers a diverse educational experience, placing an emphasis on design in the real world and on the practical demands of the 21st century workplace.

What’s the degree about? the Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) explores the evolving nature of interior design, its significance to the development of socio-cultural identity, the technology of built interior environments, and the historical impact it has had on lifestyles, environments and experiences.

it will allow you to focus on both residential and commercial interior design, such as the design of office spaces, retail environments, bars, nightclubs, hotels, restaurants, museums and exhibition spaces.

throughout your degree, you will learn how to combine your technical knowledge with your creative vision. You will also learn how to work with clients and other design professionals to develop design solutions that are safe, functional, attractive and fit-for-purpose. Your studies will be framed within the realm of environmentally-sustainable, ethically and socially-responsible professional design practice.

You will work on real-time, real world projects, often in design teams that will challenge you to adapt to the demands of the modern professional design studio. You will interact, network and socialise with creative professionals, and immerse yourself in an atmosphere of limitless possibility. By the end of the program, you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to make your mark in industry.

Program aims the degree aims to develop highly creative, technically proficient interior design professionals.

studying this degree will help you to develop the ability to think critically and manage complex projects from the initial concept through to a successful, detailed resolution.

You will learn how to create innovative, original interior design concepts, explore the spatial, structural and material elements of built interior environments and develop a comprehensive understanding of interaction between interior spaces and the people that use them.

The Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) will help you to develop industry-standard core technical skills, which allied with creative and theoretical tuition, represents an ideal grounding for all future design professionals.

Applied learning and assessmentthe Bachelor of Design (Interior Design) is characterised by its applied approach to learning. students participate in small studio-based classes, supported by lectures, tutorials and guest presentations by leading industry practitioners.

there will also be opportunities to participate in site visits, design exhibitions, conferences and seminars. You will be encouraged to engage with complex integrated design projects, think critically, apply appropriate creative methodologies and to synthesise concepts to achieve design resolutions.

at tafe nsW1, our students learn by experience; working on real projects, winning prestigious design competitions and excelling in external reviews. there will be a definitive industry focus to all your project work, allowing you to embark upon your career in applied design ahead of the traditional academic curve.

Internship as work-based learningour challenge is to equip students for practice as successful design industry professionals. as part of the Bachelor of Design (Interior Design), you will be required to undertake a work-based placement in a design practice.2

the interior Design internship program will involve you working in a sponsoring organisation for a specified period of time, on a defined project of mutual benefit to the student and the sponsor.

this internship represents an outstanding opportunity for you to put the knowledge you have acquired during your studies into practice. there is no better preparation for a career in the design industry.

Collaborative, studio-based learning students at Design centre enmore are free from the limits of the traditional academic lecture-based education and are offered a studio-based learning environment that focuses on collaboration, creativity and innovation.

You will be invited to work in partnership with other students, forming groups that function in the same way as professional design agencies. in these groups, you will occupy studios and will develop your ability to consult, engage and excel within a challenging yet supportive atmosphere.

MultidisciplinaryWe appreciate the diversity of knowledge required to function as an effective creative design practitioner in the 21st century. as the boundaries defining key roles within design project teams become increasingly blurred, it has become an educational imperative for students to engage with other design disciplines.

this is why we have created a degree that allows students to develop a technical familiarity with all aspects of interior design, alongside ten core subjects that are fundamental to all areas of creative design. students will also be able to select electives from other design disciplines.

from a professional perspective, this multidisciplinary aspect to the degree will prepare graduates to work effectively alongside other design specialists in the workplace.

1 tafe nsW higher education is a trading name of nsW tafe commission. sydney institute is part of tafe nsW.

2 in certain agreed circumstances, where students are already working in industry or suitable internship cannot be found, one (previously unselected) elective can be undertaken in place of the internship.
