The School’s Motto

“Service Before Self ’’

This means that we serve others willingly, graciously and selflessly. We do not expect anything, in

return, for our service because there is greater pleasure in giving than in receiving. Our motto is a

constant reminder that the welfare and safety of others always comes prior to our own welfare, comfort

and safety. Serving others, we serve God.

Aims of DPS

To provide the best possible education to its students.

companions and even to any unattended visitor they happen to meet in the school campus.

Nursery School Programme

The Nursery School programme is designed to encourage a balance of child centred and teacher

facilitated activities. This programme offers children a variety of choices provided within a carefully

prepared indoor and outdoor environment. The environment includes art, dramatic plays, unit blocks,

manipulatives, language arts, books, music, computers, water and sand play, building of large structures,

gardening, running, climbing, animal care, and a variety of large and small motor activities. Our goal is

to encourage each child's natural curiousity and interests in learning. We feel it is important for the

children to actively participate in the learning process, and therefore provide many opportunities for

learning by doing, for both indirect and direct acquisition of new knowledge and skill. The school's

curriculum covers the following six areas of learning:

Number Skill

Communication and language

Personal, social and emotional aspect

Knowledge and understanding of the world

Physical awareness

Creative and aesthetic areas

For the Parents

1. The child must always wear a badge giving information about his / her name, class, address, telephone

number and the bus stop.

2. Please find out the bus number, the exact bus stop, the morning and afternoon timings of the bus from the

Transport Department.

3. No child will be picked up from the bus stop unless he / she is wearing a badge. There must be someone to

receive the child at the bus stop in the afternoon.

4. Children using the bus must not be accompanied by either parent for more than two days. Please help the

child to settle down comfortably at the earliest.

5. Please try to send the same person every day for those children who will be picked up by a servant or

driver. They should reach school ten minutes before the bell. They should carry identification cards.

6. Please note children well not be sent home without showing I-Cards by the escorts.

7. Please do not take your child back from school during teaching hours. If you have some plan for the day,

kindly do not send the child to school on that day.

8. The bag, napkin, water bottle etc. carried by the child, should have his / her name, class and section written on

it. This is a must to avoid any loss.

9. A handkerchief should be pinned to the child‟s uniform everyday.

10. Distribution of gifts is not allowed on birthdays in the class.

11. Whenever a teacher sends you a note, kindly reply back and do the needful. Please do not mind if she is

unable to reply to every letter. Please bear in mind that whatever the teacher does it is for the child‟s benefit.

If you have queries or complaints, it is the best to talk to the Parent Representative.

12. Your child should be regular in the class, as frequent absence hampers the progress of the child. Please

ensure that the child goes to the toilet before coming to school.

13. The newsletters and assignments of different subjects are sent periodically. These should be preserved in

folders for future reference. Parents are requested to go through these assignments along with their child for

the reinforcement of concepts introduced in the class.

Page 8: Delhi Public School AmritsarThe School’s Motto “Service Before Self ’’ This means that we serve others willingly, graciously and selflessly. We do not expect anything, in return,

14. Please encourage your child to eat healthy and wholesome food. We as teachers also guide the children to eat

the right kind of meals and for that purpose have made a menu plan for the week. Please ensure that the

child‟s tiffin contains food as per the menu plan.

15. Parent – Teacher Meetings are held for parents to interact with their ward‟s class teacher. Please ensure your

presence. Prior information will be sent to you regarding the date and time.

16. Please make sure that your child goes to bed early so that he / she is fresh and happy, the next morning and is

not forced to getting ready for school.

17. Keep use of technology to minimum.

18. Please ensure that your child is not exposed the films which are not meant for his / her age group, especially

those with the violence as they have an adverse effect on the child.

19. It would go a long way if parents could spend quality time with their child like reading out story books

whenever possible.

20. Please do not try to meet your ward‟s class teacher in the class during school hours. However, you may see

any teacher taking prior appointment.

21. A sick child should not be sent to school. In case of an emergency, if the school doctor instructs, the parents

will be requested to take the child back.

22. In case a child is absent for more than two days, due to any illness, a leave application must be sent to the

teacher. In case of any other reason of absence, prior sanction should to be sought.

23. Kindly inform the school, at the earliest in case of any change in the address or telephone numbers.

Counseling Services

The school counselor helps every student improve in areas of academic achievements, personal and

social development and career planning. She addresses the academic and developmental needs of all

students by collaborating with the students, the parents, the school staff and the community. Knowledge,

understanding and skill in these domains are developed through classroom instruction, appraisal,

consultation, counseling, coordination, and collaboration. The topics of character education, diversity

and multiculturalism and school safety are important areas of focus for the school counselor.

The CCE Assessment of the students of the classes IX and X is done using the guidelines provided by

the CBSE Board. Questionnaires, based on psychometric criteria, were developed based on these

guidelines which were then filled in by th students. The final assessment was done using the input

received from the questionnaires as well as the teachers‟ objective observations of the students

throughout the school year.

Life Skills

As per the CBSE guidelines, life skills for personal growth and development are an integral part of the

school‟s curriculum. Interpersonal communication skills, empathy, cooperation, teamwork, advocacy

skills, decision-making, critical thinking, skills for managing stress, Time management, coping skills

like anger management etc. and self-assessment comprises the crux of life-skills.

Its methodology also covers brain-storming sessions, debates, playing varied games and sports thereby

enhancing the overall personality of the students.

Students Council

Students Council at Delhi Public School, Amritsar works to facilitate all events and resolves relevant

issues so as to faster a sense of pride and community within the school. It works regularity with the

school administration to facilitate positive school environment for students and staff. At DPS Amritsar

student council is involved in the school functions beyond just their class rooms. Students selected for

the student council become the role model for other students. It is considered to be one of the highest

honour and position to be a part of student council.
