Freestate has been using Delo 400 Multigrade 15W-40 in their Freightliner trucks for over 8 years – one truck had over 1M+ km and they wanted to see

engine parts performance while in extreme load service


Truck engine was pulled out and torn down by Freightliner Dealer Technicians in Bloemfontein, SAF

Pistons and Rings are in very good condition with limited deposit build up and all rings showing free movement.

Delo 400 Multigrade has shown very good soot dispersant capability while minimizing deposit build up under heavy load operations.



Piston liners are in very good condition after 1,000,000+ km – both inside and outside – showing the superb combined protection of Delo 400 and Caltex Extended Life Coolant



Cam shafts showed minimal wear and the engine head deck was very clean with no sludge or deposit build up



Connecting Rod bearings show little wear with no significant overlay removal on either the thrust side (top bearings) or the non-thrust side (lower set of bearings).



Main bearings show little wear with no significant overlay removal except for a few scratches on either the thrust side (left set of bearings) or the non-thrust side (right set of bearings). Very good protection at over 1,000,000+ km with Delo 400 Multigrade.



Connecting rods and wrist pins show very little wear and are in very good shape – these components could be reused again based on the protection provided by Delo 400 Multigrade.

Radiator heat exchange tubes are clean of deposits and in excellent condition after 1,000,000+ kilometers due to the use of Caltex Extended Life Coolant.

Radiator has provided excellent heat transfer performance and protection by keeping deposits off the radiator tubes.



Thrust side of piston liners show no cavitation/liner pitting or silicated layer build up. They are clean and in superb condition showing the excellent protection provided by Caltex Extended Life Coolant.

Furthermore it shows the excellent continued thermal transfer capability between liners and coolant since no deposits, corrosion or silicated film have formed due to the protection provided by Caltex Extended Life Coolant.



Water Pump and seal in very good condition after 1,000,000+ kilometers due to the use of Caltex Extended Life Coolant. Both components could be reused again in the vehicle.



Thermostats are clean of deposits and silicated film allowing them to operate appropriately and maintain key engine operating temperature at an optimal level.

Caltex Extended Life Coolant continues to main good protection.



Freestate refills their rebuilt engine with Delo 400 Multigrade and Caltex Extended Life Coolant to haul petroleum products another 1,000,000+ km with

continued reliability
