“Asia is expected to be the largest regional manufacturer of UAVs in the world over the next decade.”

OUR STORYUAVs have long been used for military surveillance and border defense, but now the commercial sector is becoming increasingly interested in how they can be applied to solve problems and reduce operating costs. Asian countries, because of their economic and geographic conditions, present a distinct set of problems and obstacles:

• Ambiguous and sometimes incoherent regulatory frameworks

• Country borders that are vast, remote and comprise of many islands

• Natural disasters happen far too frequently, affect large populations or remote locations

• A large mining and oil and gas industry that requires security and surveying solutions

• A significant agricultural industry that needs to become more efficient

• Large densely populated cities that require surveillance, security and emergency services

• Unique and endangered wildlife that needs protecting

UAVs are a credible solution to all of these problems.

Welcome to the Commercial UAV Show Asia.

The conference will bring these commercial communities together to learn and see how UAVs can help them save money, time and lives. The exhibition, held alongside the conference, will showcase the vast capabilities and applications of UAVs, from surveillance and monitoring to mapping, inspection and delivery. This will include some of the world’s leading UAV manufacturers and their suppliers and also some of the most innovative UAV start-ups out there, showcasing the best of both existing and emerging technology.

In 2016 the show will be run alongside two complementary events: The IOT Show and the Smart Machine Show. With this additional content, we bring you an overview of game-changing technology in Asia that will streamline your business operations.

Chair's opening remarks

A human perspective: Bringing humanitarian and disaster relief to the airUAVs have evolved to become one of the most powerful tools in the emerging technology to improve disaster response and fast track relief operations. With proper management, UAVs can be deported safely, efficiently and quickly to disaster strike area to facilitate search and rescue activities. From the perspective of an innovator and an UAV pilot, we investigate how drones can best be used in humanitarian and disaster relief to ensure a safer operation.

Connecting everybody: Providing global internet access with SkyOrbiter UAVsWith the wider spread of internet access, global connectivity is no longer a dream but a reality. With Internet as the tool in linking up people from the worldwide, it has also become a mean of communication during humanitarian crisis and a crucial everyday tool for people around the world. Quarkson’s plan in providing UAVs to transmit internet access to all walking individuals is a determining step to link people residing in less accessible areas to catch the latest trends and happenings in the rest of the world.

Panel: Latest overview of policies for integrating domestic drones in airspaceThe expanding purview of UAVs/RPAS raises valid regulatory concerns which have proved difficult to address. With the increasing popularity and affordability of UAVs, and their almost unlimited applications in civil industries, it is essential for regulators to determine the best way to manage these autonomous flying machines. Payers and regulators joining this panel discussion will provide updates and share insights on the status quo and future plans for a better RPAS regulation in their respective countries of interest.

Panel: Understanding the real cost in implementing UAVs in AsiaMany amateur users believe that using UAVs in a commercial industry is simply a matter of purchasing a drone from a roadside shop, flying it out in the air and hoping for the best result to come back in a matter of seconds. In reality, a huge amount of preparation, including sourcing pilots, data analytics storage and interpretation, and quality control for collected data, has to be done to fully utilise the UAVs to their full potential. In this panel discussion, we invite drone manufacturers, software providers, training facilitators, and current end users to make sure that new users are fully aware of the real cost and ROI before implementing UAVs in their daily operations.

3D mapping Nepal for earthquake reliefIn April 2015, a 7.8Mw hit one of the most rugged and mountainous terrains in the world- Nepal. With more than 8000 death and 21,000 injured, the need for relief was immediate. Adopting low cost drones became essential to go traverse the difficult terrain and capture the necessary information to assist the relief operation. Hear from GlobalMedica on their strategies in this fast paced lifesaving operation.

Interview- Crop management with drones in MNC agricultural firmsCombining UAV technology with the traditional remote sensing techniques helps achieve higher productivity and better crop management. This interview is a must join session for smaller agricultural owners to learn from corporate agricultural firm on how all this can be done.

Using UAVs for home delivery in JapanThe Japanese government has recently created a special zone to test drones for goods delivery. As the pioneer in adopting UAVs for commercial usage, all in the field are excited to find out the progress of these test. Perhaps in near future, we will see UAVs taking over the sky to deliver dozens of orders to consumers’ doorsteps.

Choosing the best technology for your agricultural projectWe know that all farmers want to grow their crops and keep their herds in the most cost-efficient way. Here, we are talking about the balancing of the choice of UAS vs remote sensing technology, both of which can be expensive. You need to know which are the best techniques and which payload you need to ensure your flying machine operates in its optimal condition.

Efficient vaccine delivery with dronesPrevention is better than cure. Vaccines can do wonders in preventing suffering and reducing healthcare costs. However, with the lack of infrastructure in inaccessible and mountainous area, getting a child vaccinated can be a nightmare for a parent with a shallow pocket. In this session, hear how the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation utilised high UAV agility to work with the Bhutan government, a country with mountainous terrain and only 2% arable land, to distribute functional vaccines to individuals in need.

Collaborative analysis of data collected by agridroneIt is easy fly out a drone to take images of plants. The question is, what’s next? Besides choosing the best sensor and camera for the job, using agridrone for surveillance generates a massive amount of data. You need to understand how to use it for proper analysis, assessment and execution of your next project. Find out how using this data can help you boost yields, cut costs and, ultimately, drive your business forward.

Using drone surveillance and big data to forecast weather and clear hazeUAVs may be the solution to filling up gaps between traditional remote sensing techniques in weather forecasting. With their ability to sample data in difficult to reach areas, they are an ideal tool for surveying and investigating hurricanes, storm, cyclone and even haze. Learn from NASA on how this can potentially be applied in Asia using one of the well designed and highly functional HALE UAVs.

Efficient mapping of construction sites to ensure worker safetyWith the changing work environment in construction sites, it is difficult for site managers to ensure the safety of workers. Take Hong Kong as an example, more than 300 out of a thousand workers are injured annually in construction sites. Join us to find out how UAVs can help to map out the site by helping site managers to measure stockpile, manage resources and monitor construction progress to reduce the injury and fatality of workers on site.
