Endo 5015 Dental Photography Course Syllabus Course Name and Number: Endo 5015, Dental Photography Course Director: Anibal Diogenes, DDS, PhD 210-450-3602/[email protected] Goals and Objectives: The goal of this course is to provide the student with an understanding of pertinent fundamentals of photography which are essential for producing successful clinical photographs. The student will become familiar with the different types of cameras, lens and electronic flash systems available along with their inherent benefits or shortcomings. The hands-on part of the course involves photography of extra-oral and intra-oral views, small objects and microscopic views. Producing clinical photographs and then reviewing the images with the faculty will provide familiarity with using clinical cameras, intraoral mirrors and patient/photographer positioning. This experience will provide the student with the knowledge and confidence to select a clinical camera system and begin to successfully take clinical photographs of patients. Method of Evaluating the Student: Class attendance and participation during the hands-on part of the course. The images which are taken by the student are reviewed by the faculty and are used to evaluate the student. Grading Policy: Grades will be determined by the residents participation in class discussions and production of photographs during the hands-on part of the course. Letter grades will be assigned based on a grading scale of: 90-100=A; 80-89=B; 70-79=C; 65-69=D and 0-64=F. Attendance Policy: Attendance at all course sessions is expected. If illness or family emergency prevents attendance, the student will contact the Program Director or Academic Program Coordinator with the reason for non-attendance. It is expected that the student will contact the course director as soon as possible after the course sessions are missed to determine the proper method of class makeup. Missed Examination Policy: No examinations will be administered during the course. Remediation: For remediation of the Photography course, the student will review areas of deficiency and present their photographic images for review with the course director at a pre-arranged time. List of Each Session’s Title: No specific title if available for this course. Required and Recommended Textbooks: There are no required or recommended textbooks for this course. Articles for review will be provided by the Course Director as hand-outs for the course.
