DEPARTMENT OF ART ART HISTORY & ART CONSERVATION ARTH 404/3.0 Conservation Principles Special Topic for Winter 2016: Cultural Heritage Preservation __________________________________________________ Prerequisites: A GPA of 2.60 in a minimum of 24.0 units in ARTH courses and Level 4 and registration in an ARTH major or Medial Plan. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Cultural heritage preservation will be considered through historical and theoretical documents and with the analysis of approaches using case-‐studies drawn from UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The impact of war on heritage will be stressed. The goal is to provide an advanced introduction to the subject and to enable focused research on specific sites. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: A detailed list of readings and requirements will be available in the first class. The course will involve short lectures, student presentations and discussion. Attendance is mandatory and there will be a test on the reading assignments. At least one research essay will be required.
