ABOUT DESTINATION KERALA
Destination Kerala is Kerala’s fore-most English language business monthly chronicling entrepreneur-
ship, economy and excellence. It features original and curated articles on the State’s burgeoning information technology, retail, real estate, tourism, education, healthcare, infrastructure, banking & finance and agro industries in particular.
Since 1997 we have been at the forefront promoting Kerala as the must see and must invest destination of the sub-continent. By showcasing Kerala’s leaders, businesses, initiatives and success stories, our efforts highlight the best of what God’s Own Coun-try has to offer various stakeholders – entre-preneurs, tourists, investors, analysts, policy makers, and Keralites around the world.
We partner the Government and private industry to create compelling English lan-guage content for leverage across platforms like print, online, social and events.
Destination Kerala is now into the 19th year of its publication.
READER PROFILEThe magazine reaches high net worth
individuals and entrepreneurs, policy and decision makers across government and industry, and the entire CxO community.
CIRCULATION50,000 copies in print and over 1 lakh
readership across Kerala, Indian metros and GCC states.
KERALA OUTLOOKTourism and Information & Communica-
tion Technology (ICT) sectors will continue to drive the economic growth of Kerala.
According to a study conducted by Dun & Bradstreet, Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Kerala is expected to grow at an average rate of 8% during FY15-FY20. Tour-ism industry is the backbone of Kerala econ-omy and the biggest contributor to foreign exchange reserves. Owing to rich culture, unique natural beauty and various historical attractions, Kerala is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in India.
Kerala’s IT policy aims to achieve up to 500,000 direct employment in the ICT sector and create at least 3,000 technol-ogy startups by 2020. Government’s major e-governance initiative, Kerala State Wide Area Network (KSWAN) is being set up as a backbone of the State Information Infrastructure (SII), connecting Thiru-vananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode, extending to 14 districts and 152 blocks of the State. ‘Akshaya’ is another innova-tive initiative undertaken by the Kerala government, which is an e-literacy project. As of now, 3.3 mn families have been made e-literate by Akshaya. Almost 88% Akshaya centers are in rural areas and this project also promotes women entrepreneurship in the State. Malappuram and Kannur districts in the State are 100% e-literate, and Kollam, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kasaragod districts have achieved e-literacy above 90%.
Infrastructure development is the highest
priority of the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) of Kerala. ‘Navratna’ projects like Kochi Metro, Smart City, Vizhinjam port, Kannur airport, National waterway, Light Rail Transit at Kozhikode and Thiruvanantha-puram, Suburban railway, Surface transport development and Student entrepreneurship program are expected to transform Kerala like never before.
Kerala has shown impressive performance in terms of health and education related indi-cators. High literacy and increasing e-literacy in the State is likely to promote inclusive growth and boost knowledge driven service sectors in the State.
In FY16, construction and manufactur-ing sectors contributed around 15% and 7.7% in State GSDP, respectively. Handloom, handicraft, coir and cashew industries are major industries in the State. Coir and handloom sectors are large employers in the State; hence thrust areas in the 12th Five Year Plan are to increase export earnings and upgrade technology in these sectors, along with skill development and market promotion.
Major incentives under annual plan FY 17 include those aimed at acquisition of land for industrial parks, capacity building programs with emphasis on skill develop-ment, entrepreneurial promotional activi-ties, entrepreneur support schemes, cluster development program covering micro and small enterprises, financial assistance to industrial cooperative societies and start up subsidies.
