Cyber Safety

To commence the year in Digital Technologies classes students have been learning about Cybersafety, in an effort to become safe and responsible users of technology. Computers are becoming an ever more important tool for communication and a wonderful tool for many people, however it does need to be used carefully and responsibly. As you would be aware, there are many issues that can arise with the use of social media, and our staff are outlining some of these concerns in their Digital Technologies sessions to ensure your child’s safety. However, we need your help. We ask for your partnership in ensuring our students are only accessing APPROPRIATE social media platforms. Each social media platform has its own age restrictions, and we ask that you help your child to adhere to them. This graphic clearly shows that the majority of popular social media platforms have an age restriction of at least 13 years old. No student at Kilberry Valley should have one of these accounts. If you allow your children to use one of these social media platforms, against the company guidelines, we strongly encourage that you closely monitor their use. From time to time inappropriate use of social media is brought to our attention, including cyberbullying and access to inappropriate content, and if it is school related we will follow this up. However, we can only do so much and I encourage any parent or guardian to discuss appropriate use of technology with their child. If your child is experiencing cyberbullying, we encourage you to seek further advice from the following websites, or in some cases, you may wish to contact police. More information can be found: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/programs/bullystoppers/Pages/parentcyber.aspx https://www.esafety.gov.au/iparent Have a great week and keep smiling! From the 13th to the 16th of February the Year 6’s went to camp. The destination was Briars on the Mornington Peninsula.

They had a wonderful time while they were there!

Their first activities took place outdoors. Some groups did activities where they

pushed their courage to the limits. Most agreed the best activity was canoeing

which most did for the first time.

Just because the camp leftovers didn't go to camp doesn't mean they didn’t have an

amazing time back at school! Students were in groups and had to earn points during activities for their group. The winning team got a prize

at the end. All the Grade Six had a Lovely week at camp and at school.

Year 6 Camp

On Thursday, the improved weather meant the whole group could finally walk to the beach. Whilst there, they had tons of fun playing flags, beach soccer, creating sand

sculptures and of course playing in the water! Later that night, Year 6 camp had a

humongous disco with lots of crazy dancing from students and even the teachers!

On Wednesday, due to the bad weather the

Year 6’s did some indoor activities which were all competitions between each activities groups.

One of them was eating Weet-bix without hands. Later that day, the group went to a Gargantuan Indoor Sports Centre. They played dodgeball,

cricket and soccer.

Please help our Breakfast Club!

Last year at the KVPS Breakfast Club we served over 2000 FREE meals. These numbers demonstrate the popularity and need for this program

amongst our community. It is a wonderful chance for students and families to socialise and make a healthy start to their day.

In order for our Breakfast Club volunteers to continue to offer this essential service we are asking for a

donation of 1 food item from each family at KVPS.

If you could be kind enough to send 1 of the following items to school we would be extremely grateful. Please note this donation is optional and only

one item per family is required.

As we need a range of products, we ask that each year level please donate a different item

CHANGE OF CLOTHING FOR STUDENTS

We would like to remind parents to

provide a change of clothing in children’s school bags—preferably some clean

underwear, track suit pants, windcheater, shorts or a dress.

This is handy for

ALL children in ALL grade levels .

It makes them feel less stressed if they require a change of clothing owing to an accident or a blood nose or

they fall in the mud.

We ask for your co-operation with this matter as our Sick Bay is unable to cope

with the large volume of people requiring changes of clothing.

THANK YOU
