Dear Parent
Welcome to the January to April2020 issue of the series Living the Word.Each month of lessons is called a
Unit. Each Unit has a Theme and aTitle. The Unit Overviews on pages 4,14, 25 and 38—provide the BIBLETHOUGHTS for each month.We encourage parents and
caregivers to make it a priorty eachweek to go through the lesson withthe child and to help the child to:1) study the lessons by reading the
Bible story and the BIBLE THOUGHTS toand with the child 2) apply the lessons learnt to his or
her life 3) do the activities for each lesson. We pray that as you continue to
journey with us through the series, youand your household will be blessed.
3 Caribbean Bible Lesson—The Living the Word Series
Caribbean Christian Publications is thankful to the followingpersons for writing the Teacher Bible Backgrounds for January and
February: Clessie-Ann Ellis from Trinidad & Tobago and Elizabeth Jerome from the USA, respectively.
Bethinia Edwards–Jamaica: Mrs Edwards is the writerof the April unit. She also wrote lessons for Beginners in anearlier phase of the Caribbean Christian Publicationscurriculum. Bethinia serves as a deacon at her churchand is actively involved in several other ministries. Sheis the Acting Principal at a preparatory school in theparish of St Andrew.
Meet Our Writers
Andrea Lashley–Barbados: Miss Lashley is the writerof the March unit. She became involved in thedevelopment of the Beginner curriculum for CaribbeanChristian Publications in 2010. Miss Lashley serves as aPraise and Worship team leader and Young Adult SundaySchool teacher at her church. She works as anAdministrative Officer.
Edna McKoy–Jamaica: Mrs McKoy is the writer of theFebruary unit. She became involved in the developmentof the Beginner curriculum for Caribbean ChristianPublications in 2010. Edna has had the distinction ofserving as the first female vice-president of the JamaicaBaptist Union. She was a recording secretary for theCaribbean Baptist Fellowship for over 20 years.
Doreen Wynter–Jamaica: Rev. Wynter is the writer ofthe January unit. She has also been involved in thedevelopment of frameworks for CCP adult curriculum.Rev. Wynter serves as pastor of the Jones Town Circuit ofBaptist Churches in Kingston. She actively seeks to developemployment opportunities for citizens of the Jones Towncommunity. Rev. Wynter is a lecturer in the JamaicaBaptist Union’s Training in Discipleship and Ministryprogramme.

Saul was king of Israel. One day, KingSaul became very sick. His servantswere worried about him. His servantssaid, “King Saul, let us find someonewho plays the harp well. This will helpyou to feel better.” King Saul said,“Okay, find a harp player for me.” One servant said to King Saul, “There
is a man named Jesse who lives inanother city. His youngest son, David,is a very good harp player. He is also abrave fighter and he obeys God’srules.” Saul told the servant to go andbring David to the palace. When the king’s servants arrived at
Jesse’s house, David was caring for hisfather’s sheep. The servants said toJesse, “King Saul wants you to sendDavid to him.” Jesse sent David withthe king’s men to the palace.

Whenever King Saul felt sick, Davidwould play the harp for him. This madeKing Saul feel better. King Saul liked tohear David play the harp. He sent amessage to David’s father, saying,“Please let David stay with me at thepalace. I like to hear him play the harp.” David liked playing the harp for King
Saul whenever the king was sick. Godis pleased when we help persons whoare sick.

Jeremiah was one of God’s specialworkers. He went around the citypreaching. Some of the king’s officialsdid not like what Jeremiah was tellingthe people. The officials went to the king and
said, “We must get rid of Jeremiah. Hepreaches things which make thepeople feel afraid. He does not wantthe soldiers to fight.” The king replied,“Do whatever you want with him.”The officals took Jeremiah andlowered him in an empty well.Another official, named Ebed-
Melech, worked for the king. He heardwhat had happened to Jeremiah anddecided to help him.Ebed-Melech went to the king. He
said, “My king, those men have donean unkind thing to Jeremiah. They have

The men took old rags, old clothes andropes with them. They used these tohelp to pull Jeremiah out of the well. Jeremiah was very happy that the
men had helped him. God is pleasedwhen we help others who are in need.
