Farouq Hussein Al-ZankiChief Executive Officer

Dialoguewith CEO

I would first like to congratulate you on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan which brings special joy to our Islamic world to overwhelm it from east to west due to its magnificent status in the spirits of Muslim people all over the world; in addition, it is distinguished with “Lailat Al-Qadr” in which worship is better than the worship of one thousand months. Ramadan is the month of mercy and forgiveness. It is the month of intensifying collaboration and solidarity among Muslim people. We change our culture of food and dealing with others in this holy month as well as scouring our behaviors at work as per the instructions given by Allah, the Almighty, and prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to work hard and devotedly to win the prizes which Allah has prepared for sincere Muslims. Nobody can disregard the importance of work in our life particularly in our oil sector which is considered the most important sector in the country. This however makes us proud of belonging to such sector and realize the importance of work under the unremitting eagerness of countries to preserve their status high. This requires more sacrifices, initiatives and obligations besides realizing well the concept of work’s culture to practice it properly among our daily life as per the regulations allotted in this regard. It is significant to consider the fact that any rich country cannot last unless it depends directly on its national personnel through deeply rooting certain concepts in their spirits such as belongingness, commitment and morals. As we witness the pious atmospheres of Ramadan, we look forward to your devoted efforts to achieve the oil sector’s goals epitomized in executing its 2030 strategy which is supposed to convey the country into a developed world besides reinforcing the status of Kuwait internationally as a key player in the petroleum industry.

Mohammed Al-Azmi: Getting rid of daily routine is key reason to enjoy Ramadan

Each of us has a certain program which he is keen on executing it during the holy month of Ramadan. This program has several common items like the ea-gerness to intensively worship Allah, the Almighty; however, there are some dif-ferent routines in each person’s program in this holy month. To learn more about the daily program of some of KPC’s personnel during the holy month of Ramadan, KPC News-letter interviewed some of them to spot-light this issue. Sanaa Abdulrahim, from Deputy Chair-man & Chief Executive Office, began her talk quoting “Hadith” of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in which he said, “Ramadan has approached. Allah has imposed fasting in this holy month in which the doors of Heaven are opened and the doors of Hell are shut down; in addition, devils are shackled. However, it includes a night which is better than

train us on sincerity and devotion not only in our worship, but also in our daily treatments. As for the way of spending time during Ramadan, she said, “I recite the holy Qur’an and I try to perform devotedly worships including “Taraweeh” prayer in the mosque and perform the minor hajj - Omrah - if possible.”On her part, Rabe’ah Al-Bekhet, from Organization and Manpower Depart-ment, congratulated firstly her colleagues on the advent of Ramadan wishing them to worship Allah, the Almighty, piously specially prayers and fast. fact of changing the daily routine dur-ing Ramadan is one of the key reasons which beautify this holy month. I was earlier interested in staying up late at night; yet, the matter is different in the

current time because of career obliga-tions. Accordingly, my day commences early in the morning. However, I’m keen on reciting the holy Qur’an after finishing my work. I perform after that some little activities such as shopping. I take a snap sometimes before Maghreb prayer. Additionally, I watch some TV programs and serials. Moreover, I go to

the mosque to perform Isha prayer and “Taraweeh”. I meet also some friends before going home to browse the inter-net. I recite also the holy Qur’an. I fur-ther take part in Ramadan sports compe-titions particularly football.”Meanwhile, Bader Al-Wazzan, from Media Relations Department, divided his day in Ramadan into two periods; before and after “Iftar” . He said he is on duty before Iftar; however, he manages a number of personal and family duties af-ter finishing the official working hours. He added that the period after Iftar is allotted to perform “Taraweeh” prayer and visit relatives and friend, pointing out that he is keen playing football and going to diwaniyas and popular cafés if possible. Finally, Sarah Al-Dagher, from Media Relations Department , extended her de-light over the advent of the holy month of Ramadan saying, “We wait eagerly the advent of Ramadan in which we contest to perform more worships pi-ously to become

Al-Qadr Night…and the superiority of Ramadan’s last days10

The one who is deprived of it loses too much

We are witnessing now a holy month full of good deeds and blessings. It is the holy month of Ramadan which is applauded severally in the holy Qur’an and the speeches of Prophet Muham-mad (PBUH). It is the month in which Muslim people take the advantage of doubling their good deeds to become much closer to Allah, the Almighty, who has granted this holy month a special characteristic epitomized in its last ten days on which He releases His people from Hell. As these last ten days commence, we should utilize them well through performing intensively prayers, reciting the holy Qur’an piously and secluding ourselves in the mosque to intensify good deeds. Mother of Faith Aisha (May Allah be pleased with her) said the prophet (PBUH) was exerting much effort, on the last ten days of Ra-madan, in his worship more than any other days, adding he was suspending intercourses with his wives once these last ten days begin; in addition, he was performing the prayers of late night be-sides letting his family perform these prayers to gain more good deeds.

In fact, our great prophet has paid spe-cial concern to the nights of these last ten days of Ramadan thanks to the priceless merits of these nights which include Al-Qadr Night about which Al-lah, the Almighty, says it is better than one thousands months. In other words, the worship in this night is better than the worship performed in other one thousand months that is equal to almost eighty-three years and four months. What a great award that Allah, the Al-mighty grants to His peoples! More-over, angels come down to the earth peacefully to witness this holy night; in addition, peoples’ fates are decided in it. It is said most properly that peoples’ fates are already decided when they are fetuses in their mothers’ wombs; yet, these fates appear to angels in this holy night. Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said the man is seen planting despite the fact that he is decided in this holy night to be among dead people. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said the one who is deprived of this holy night’s good is real loser as it is deprived of great good.

Some religious preachers clarified that Al-Qadr means glorification; whereas others perceive that Al-Qadr means straitening. This interpretation is de-rived from the verse of the holy Qur’an in Surat Al-Fajr in which Allah, the Almighty, says if Allah afflicts man through limiting his provision, man says, “My lord humiliates me.” Ac-cordingly, Al-Qadr means straitening or limiting because the earth cannot con-tain the innumerable number of angels who come down to earth in this holy night; therefore, Allah, the Almighty, has glorified its status as it is a night in which Allah forgives sins and conceals defects. Ibu Horaira, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Muslim person who piously worships Allah, the Almighty, in Al-Qadr Night, Allah for-gives all his previous sins. Most of religious preachers have agreed

that Al-Qadr Night falls on one night of the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan and most properly on the night of Ramadan 27th.The status of Al-Qadr NightThis holy night has magnificent status as it is mentioned above. For example, Allah, the Almighty, revealed the holy Qur’an completely in this holy night; however, it was inspired after that sepa-rately to the prophet throughout twen-ty-three years. It has been described in the holy Qur’an that it is better than one thousand months. It is also described as it is blessed night.Angels fall to the earth in this holy and blessed night copiously. They fall to the earth with mercy and blessing. They fall from the heaven to the earth to surround and bless any seminar held for reciting

the holy Qur’an. It is peace as the devil cannot commit any bad deed or harm in this magnifi-cent and blessed night.Allah forgives the sins of those who stay up worshipping Him piously in this holy night. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) says that Allah, the Almighty, forgives the sins of the Muslim who fasts Ramadan piously and morally. In addition, all his prior sins are forgiven if he worships Allah piously in the holy Al-Qadr Night.Allah, the Almighty, has named one “Sura” after it in the holy Qur’an due to its superb status. This Sura is called “Al-Qadr”.We entreat Allah to enable us to wit-ness the holy month of Ramadan and specially Al-Qadr Night, hoping to be included among those whom Allah will forgive their sins in this holy night.

Rosary between religious feature and cultural development

The rosary is composed of a number of pieces of granular beads collected in a thread. The shape and size of these beads differ from one maker to another as per the demands of the customers who sometimes want the rosary for religious or social rea-sons…etc. The word rosary is related to the wor-ship of praising Allah, the Almighty, as the word eulogy was mentioned in the holy Qur’an severally. However, the usage of the rosary is not exclu-sive for Muslim people as it used in various purposes by some Europeans such as the Greek nation. In fact, the industry of rosaries has long history backs to thousands of years as the ancient man was collect-ing stones such as ivory, bones and oysters to stick them forming different shapes. He was making a hole in each stone to collect them in one thread. However, the idea of collecting such stones in one chain took spiritual and religious dimensions which were lat-er discovered in the Pharaoh’s civili-

zation. In the Islamic age, the ro-sary was purportedly used in the Abbasi’s Age; yet, the usage of ro-sary was heavily spread when Islam moved to Andalusia, Mogul particu-larly when the ruling moved to Fa-timeen in North Africa as people be-gan to use it to count the names of Allah, the Almighty, and during the gatherings of acclamation. After the ostensible industrial devel-opment and the huge fortunes, the rosary has become not only a reli-gious feature but also a social habit. In addition, it has become a valuable gift particularly the expensive ones as many men and sometimes women hold it in their daily life and the vari-ous social occasions.

P a r t i c i p a t i o n

Although fuels have several kinds and resources, the fossil fuel is con-sidered the most important one as it includes oil, coal and gas. Yet, it is overused improperly since last cen-tury despite its high prices, which are increasing daily, and its negative harms against environment. Moreover, the wooden fuel, which covers 6% of the international us-age of the primary energy, and the fuel extracted from the animal waste or the heavy drainage are considered common resources of energy as this waste is used in generating energy. In fact, this heavy drainage is treated in many countries all over the world to avail of the emitted gases of provid-ing energy. There are several resources of clean energy that can be used as alterna-tives such as the solar energy which is absorbed from the sun in the shape of light and heat that man managed to

harness them for his good since the old ages through technology which is incessantly developed. For example, man managed to use the thermal en-ergy of the sun in the operation of di-rect heating, the operation of dynam-ic conversion to general electricity through the photoelectric phenomena using the photo-voltage cells in ad-dition to other architectural designs that depend basically on utilizing the

solar energy. These techniques take part effectively in solving some of the crucial problems globally. As it is known, electricity is generated from the solar energy through thermal engines or photovoltaic transformers. It is worth mentioning that the solar energy is used in several applications such as heating and cooling systems used in architectural designs, the fresh water extracted through distil-lation or purification. In addition, the

thermal energy is used in cooking, whereas the high temperature is used in industrial purposes. Moreover, the technological means which depend generally on the solar energy can be identified as per the way used to convert the sunlight. In other words, these solar systems can be positive or negative. For example, the techniques which depend on using the positive solar energy include the

photovoltaic plates, the thermo-solar complex and other mechanical and electrical equipments which are used to convert the sunlight into other use-ful resources. Meanwhile, the tech-niques which depend basically on us-ing the negative solar energy include the tendency of designing areas used for revolving air naturally besides al-lotting one of the buildings towards the sun to select the substances of ap-propriate thermal mass.
