Dear Parents and Caregivers

Amazing things have been happening in the nature area over the past two weeks. The totem poles

have been installed, thank you Mr Taylor and thank you to your son as well. These poles delineate

the entrance to the area and remind us of the six Aboriginal seasons. This area is meant to be one of

quiet reflection and as such is not a play area. We know that our students will work with the school

to preserve this extremely special area. Many classes enjoyed visiting it during outdoor classroom

day. Photos featuring this area are included in this newsletter.

Mr Taylor and his son were also very busy last weekend constructing a Mia Mia in the nature play

scape. This is another wonderful addition that the students are loving. We have noted that the Year

1 and 2 students have added a mini Mia Mia beside the larger one! How creative!

Over the past two weeks we surveyed parents around their perceptions of Mindarie Primary. Over-

whelmingly we received positive feedback about the grounds and presentation of the school. Mr

Taylor does work really hard to maintain our grounds in such an exceptional way and he would really

love the assistance of the parents in relation to this. No, you do not need to weed, pick up a spade

and shovel or do any other physical labour, what he asks is that you stop your children from climbing

through the gardens, and also from removing the woodchips from the garden beds, especially those

in the central court yard. Just these small actions will save Mr Taylor heaps of time and will preserve

our gardens and school.

Last Friday sixteen extremely well prepared and confident Year 5 students gave their student council-

lor election speeches. Students from Year’s 4 to 6 then voted. These sixteen students will now be

undertaking some leadership activities as part of phase two of the selection process. The 2019 stu-

dent councillors will be announced at the Book Award assembly on 30 November.

Over the past two terms students in Year 5 have been working with staff from Western Power as part

of the Circuit Breakers project. The focus of this project is to get students to think about innovative

ways to harness power from alternative sources. The students have really demonstrated their crea-

tive flair during this program. On the evening of Friday, 2 November the students from TA3 attended

Scitech to show off the grids that they had designed. Feedback from the evening was extremely posi-

tive. We have had the Industrial Revolution and the Technology Revolution; the next revolution will

be in the area of creativity. It is really important that our students are able to think creatively, adapt

quickly and be resilient as they will need to be able to retrain many times as they progress through

their lives. This is why two of our main learning dispositions at Mindarie are Creativity and Resili-

The next five weeks are going to be extremely busy, we have swimming lessons for Year 6 students in

weeks seven and eight, swimming lessons for students in Pre-Primary to Year 5 in weeks nine and ten. We

have our annual nativity play that the Year 1 students are currently rehearsing; the Book Award assembly;

Graduation; Kindergarten students orientation and retirement celebrations for Mrs Blackford and Mrs

Ross. Into the mix we also add the issuing of student reports and the preparation for the 2019 school year.

Your help in relation to the last two matters is invaluable, firstly you can help by ensuring we have your

current email address for the issuing of reports and secondly you can help by advising the school as to

whether your child/children will be leaving at the end of 2018.

Kind regards

Barbara Bromley

“In no particular order, I am a dad to three wonderful children, a husband, a police officer in my 14th year, and a member of our community. I am cur-rently involved in the Digital Policing transformation project at the WA Po-lice Force. Our eldest daughter, Tylah, is in Year 9 prepping for exams at Pe-

ter Moyes. Our youngest daughter, Ava, is currently finishing her year of Pre-Primary. And our son, Jack, will be attending the Three Plus program at

Mindarie Keys Early Learning School next year.

I am passionate about our children’s education, including their wellbeing. I have a history in communications, change and innovation in the public sec-

tor. I love challenging the status quo to come up with alternative ways of working to reach the desired outcome. In the government environment

that can be difficult and I hope to bring some strategies to assist the board and the school to achieve those outcomes.”

Thursday, November 1 was Outdoor Classroom Day. A day when over 600 WA schools and early learning centres take their learning outside. This is not unusual for us here at Mindarie, with our ECE area, nature playground, Sci-ence garden, outdoor tables and now our Aboriginal meeting area, we have so many areas to enjoy our learning outside everyday.

TA10 and TA11 had a buddy session outside for Outdoor Classroom Day! The pre primary's and Year 6's were doing 'still life' drawings from a different perspective, laying on their backs looking at the tree canopy to prac-tice their hand eye coordination.

TA17 Outside Classroom Kindy enjoyed Outdoor Day. We listened to a story read by Ms Duncan, "Alexander's Outing". We then rescued Alexander, finger painted, painted with our feet, created patterns, made a turtle with our hands and sang a song, and loved creating with the loose parts from the sea container.
