Newsletter No. 5 29th March 2019

Dear Parents,

For the past week through our Konnective message a survey

has been formulated by Gillian Doig (parent of Kirsty and

Ayla) and Juliet Pannazzo (mother of Coco and Rafael) col-

lating your views on our website with the intention of im-

proving the design and functionality. The survey closes to-

day. (Friday) Many thanks to those of you who have already

completed the survey.

Year 5 teachers Mrs Ainslie Peszynski, Ms Philippa Statkus,

Year 6 teacher Mr James Feather and Year 4 teacher Mr

Richard Abell along with Steve Donohue and myself have

been chosen by the department of education to be involved in

a professional learning program, ‘Leading Professional

Learning Communities’. The purpose being to build capacity

and skills of School Leaders to improve the learning out-

comes for every student through a consistent approach to dis-

ciplined, collaborative inquiry.

This requires classroom teachers to be absent from their

teaching duties for a total of eight days. Fortunately we have

an amazing bank of experienced and exceptional casual relief

teachers who step into their roles to keep delivering the

planned curriculum. Special thanks to Mrs Julie Hobson, Mrs

Ros Kyriakou, Mrs Sarah Nolan, Ms Helen Sterling and Mrs

Katie Hardy who are our regular CRT’s.

I know that it has already been mentioned but it would be

remiss of me if I did not thank most wholeheartedly the ef-

forts of Astrid Blackburn (mother of Holly and Gretel ), Kel-

lie McDonald (mother of Annie), Anita Power( mother of

Mae and Edie) Yuli Meneilly (mother of Scarlett) , Caroline

Van West (mother of Tom and Tillie), Sarah Emerson

(mother of Oliver), Meaghan Courtney (mother of Alice), Jo

and James Cooke (parents of Lucy and Charlie), Aggie Suth-

erland (mother of Samara) and Emily Beard (mother of Patrick) for yet another tremendous Movie Night. It was a won-

derful community night of perfect weather, a great movie and wonderful company. Approximately $9,500 was raised for

the school.

School finishes at 2:30p.m. on Friday 5th April. The last day of each term is always a casual clothes day and students

make a gold coin donation towards various charities. This term all donations are to be forwarded to State School’s relief.

State School’s Relief is an autonomous, charitable organisation that assists students experiencing short term crisis and

long term chronic needs attending government schools in Victoria with school clothing, footwear, textbooks and other

essential items. They do an amazing job.

School Council meets next Tuesday night, firstly with the outgoing School Council followed by the Annual General

meeting. Mr. Tim Humphries and Mr. Scott Sutherland are retiring after serving several terms on School Council, Tim 7

years and Scott 6 years. Both of them have been instrumental in their roles as councilors and as treasurers. The school is

in a very healthy financial position and they have worked alongside two business managers Mrs. Robyn Hunter and Mrs.

Helen Dalzotto to meticulously ensure that the school’s finances are in order.

Both Tim and Scott have been wonderful advocates for our school and they have provided me and the school with un-

qualified support over many issues. I wish them both well and thank them most sincerely for their time, expertise, guid-

ance and their sense of humor even in the most difficult of times. Mr. Laurence Irlicht has completed his two year term

and we thank Laurence for his insights and creative thinking on many issues.

We welcome Ms. Kellie Mc Donald and Mr. Mark Boer as new parent representatives to join with Matt Torney, Angus

McKinnon, Alison Wingate, Gillion Doig, Jackie Brodie and Nan Wu. Ms. Emma Tan, Mr. Daniel Watts and Mr. Steve

Donohue are staff representatives for another year.

The school has a number of events next week not to be missed- our traditional Easter egg run, a whole school African

drumming incursion, a farewell to Gavin Cass our grounds man and then an early finish for holidays!

Stay well this final week of term!

Warm Regards Gayle

In order to keep our First Aid Room clean and tidy, we require volunteers to assist

with this task. We need approximately 40 families on our roster to ensure that

every family only needs to do this once per year. It is not time consuming and

requires approximately 15 minutes of your time on a FRIDAY.

The duties include:

Changing the sheets, pillow cases and re-making the bed with clean linen

(all provided in the first aid room).

Washing and returning the clean linen for the following Friday.

Checking that the area is clean and tidy.

Wiping over the cupboards, bench tops and the sink.

Tidying the spare clothes cupboard if needed.
