CCTV cameras are often located in inaccessible positions, making confi guration and changes to the cameras’ set-up a diffi cult and often costly operation. To make this operation easier, Bosch introduced its Bilinx Bi-Directional Communication Technology that uses conventional CCTV coaxial, unshielded twisted pair (UTP) or fi ber optic video transmission links to communicate data to and from the camera. As a further innovation, Bosch has integrated Bilinx functionality into the latest versions of its DiBos network-oriented Digital Video Recorder and Transmission systems.

This Application Note describes the possibilities for remotely confi guring AutoDome and Dinion cameras using DiBos connected to the cameras via the unit’s Bilinx interface.

Available DiBos systemsDiBos is now available in two main versions. The 19-inch rack-mount version is for larger installations requiring up to 62 cameras or other devices, up to 42 audio channels and internal storage capacity up to 1600 GB. The DiBos Micro is a desktop unit (also available for 19-inch rack mounting) for installations that require a maximum of 20 cameras or other devices, up to 12 audio channels and 400 GB internal storage capacity.

These systems run with Bosch’s proprietary new Windows XP-based DiBos Receiver / IP Recorder software which can be purchased separately to run on a PC. The package includes a CD containing the software and a USB dongle. These enable the software to be run on a single PC to provide remote viewing of analog cameras connected to DiBos units and / or IP-enabled cameras connected to the PC via a network.

Confi guring AutoDome cameras using the DiBos Bilinx interface.

Single DiBos confi gurationThis is the simplest DiBos confi guration in which a single DiBos unit is connected directly to Dinion and / or AutoDome cameras via coaxial, UTP or fi ber optic cabling.

Via the DiBos Bilinx connection, camera settings can be customized for the particular application, with direct camera feedback displayed on the video monitor connected to the DiBos. Settings can also be stored and uploaded to additional cameras for faster set-up or replacement. This is especially helpful when installing multiple cameras in the same system or standard multi-site applications. The coaxial, UTP or fi ber-optic cabling connects to a USB socket on the back of the DiBos unit.

Multiple DiBos confi gurationIn larger CCTV installations covering, for example, several buildings on a single site, the installations within the individual buildings can be interconnected via a Local Area or Wide Area Network (LAN or WAN). All of these may be overseen by a single PC running the DiBos Receiver / IP Recorder software in, for example, the site security center.

All remote stations, together with the connected cameras, are listed on the PC display, and all cameras on the network can be individually confi gured as described above for the locally-connected cameras.

Every time you re-start the system or log on, live mode is automatically accessed in which you can view live images from selected cameras.

To confi gure a camera remotely, select the Device List (3), which is located on the upper left-hand side of the screen. All locally-connected cameras will be listed, and if remote stations have been confi gured, they are also listed along with the cameras connected.

Select the camera you wish to confi gure remotely, and then select Confi guration from the Menu bar (1).

The internal confi guration menu of the selected camera then appears on screen and the camera can be confi gured in exactly the same manner as when a technician connects to the camera directly. This can be repeated for all locally-connected cameras.
