1. Learning outcomes / Evaluation criteria

Learning outcomesTo identify the elements of the physical architecture of a computer. To understand how they work, their functions and their interrelationships. To know how to connect them.Evaluation criteriaTo be able to identify a computer's motherboard, microprocessor, different types of memory and storage, expansion slot, connectors, power supply, input and output peripherals. To know how to connect physical components to a computer. To know how to interconnect several devices.

2. Subject Content Computer architecture and how computer work.Functions of elements of a computer.Connecting devices. Install and uninstall.Identification of the part of a computer.Analysis of the different physical components.3. Language Content / Communication

Vocabulary

Nouns: bit, byte, code, hardware, software, input, output, storage, motherboard, microprocessor, pen drive, port, power supply, slot, RAM, BIOS, hard disk.Verbs: consist of, fit, process, store, check, run, manage, update.Adjectives: peripheral, magnetic, optical, external, wireless

Structures

Present continuous.Object questions.Passive voice.First conditional.

Discourse type Descriptive, narration.Language skills Reading, speaking, listening, writing4. Contextual (cultural) element

It is the first topic in Computer Science. Understand how the computer works. Basic knowledge.

5. Cognitive (thinking) processes

Analyse, summarize, outline, memorize and assimilate.

6. (a) Task(s) Introducing the topic with the vocabulary of computers.Parts of the CPU.Elements of the computer.Experimenting with real devices of computers.

6. (b) Activities List of vocabulary and their definitions. To link.Identify devices.Connecting different elements in a CPU.Solving some worksheets about real situations.

7. MethodologyOrganization and class distribution / timing

The methodology will be active. All the students will participate.Introductory activity. Show the devices and ask what studentsknow of them.Designing and constructing a CPU: 1 session.Groups of three/four students.Explanations and activities from the student worksheets.4 sessions of 50 minutes.

Resources / Materials PC, digital blackboard.Notebook, worksheets. All the components in the CPU (we use old computers).

Key Competences Competence in knowledge and interaction with the physical worldLinguistic competencesLearning to learn

8. Evaluation (criteria and instruments)

Evaluation criteria:- To be able to identify a components of a computer.- To know how to connect physical components to a computer.- To understand the functions of the devices.- To know how these devices use a communication interface.Evaluation instruments:- Revision of the students notebook.- Continuous assessment: oral and written test.
