Why You Need To Be Online? We’ve officially entered the Golden Age of the Internet, where Google is king and Amazon is queen, yet there are still many businesses that don’t have an online presence. A recent article by Fordes contributor Nicole Leinbach-Reyhle illustrates that over 90% of consumers research products and services online before buying. This means there is no longer a question on wheth-er consumers go online to research goods and services before they make a purchase. There-fore, companies that have a website and an online presence can reap the rewards that come with connecting with their consumers.

Giving your business an online presence means more than simply putting up website with your company’s address and phone number. It means setting up a virtual version of your business, with a welcoming, informative website, a LinkedIn page, a Facebook page, and Twitter account etc. Ignoring this important potential marketing platform is akin to saying, “I don’t need any new business.”

Like with anything that is new the hardest part is always getting started, so we have created a game plan to help you get started.

3Define Your GoalsDigital marketing can do many things for your business. Before you can begin shaping your digital marketing plan, you must first determine your end business goal if you haven’t already. With a goal to work towards, it will be easier to determine if a certain effort is worth investing time and money into. For example, do you want to drive traffic to your website, generate more foot traffic to your store or restaurant, or gather emails for a newsletter?

Be clear about the buyers you want to reach. The better you understand your customers, the faster your business will grow. By knowing what your customers care about the most; what are their hubbies; what are their likes and dislikes; their gender; their location; their age and whether they have purchased from you before, will help you determine the best way to reach them, as well as, the message that will work best.

Identify Your Target

4Learn about Current CustomersIf you have a website, ask your current customers how they found it. If not, ask them what sites do they love to visit and what kind of content do they like to view. This insight can help you focus your efforts and build stronger, longer-lasting customer relationships.

Monitor Competitors

Even before you entered into the world of “business”, you were watching your competition. Whether it was in a classroom or on a sports team, you not only wanted to keep up, you wanted to know where the marker was set so you could go one step further. It was about finding new opportunities and setting new goals based on someone you aspired to beat.

Set a StrategyTaking the time to think through your plan before you begin can dramatically improve your results. By choosing one or two tactics that work within your budget, make sense for your audience and that you can commit the time to manage effectively. Many successful online marketers take a “ test and refine” approach to get the most out of their campaigns.

Track your Results In the world of online marketing, tracking your results is the definitive way to discover if you are making money or not. To see how your campaign really performs you need to learn how to determine your return on investment (ROI), and generally how to keep a keen eye on every minute detail by using the right tools. Google Analytics, Web Master and Piwik are all easy to use tools that would accomplish this goal.

As the internet continues to connect our society, it will only become more and more important that business owners use this technology to their advantage. Even owners who can’t possibly sell their goods online need to have a strong online presence. Having this can create a two-way communica-tion path between you and your customers. Visitors can easily give feedback on about your prod-ucts and services. The truth is that people are already discussing your brand and comparing you to your competitors. Through digital marketing the lines of communication are kept open and you are better equiped to control the narative of your business/brand by being part of the conversation.
