Earth Hour is an annual global campaign to showcase what can and is being done allorrer the world to combat ciirnate change. The event is a worldwide initiative showing howindividuals, communities, businesses and governments can address the threat of globalwarming if we resolve to work on it together.
This year, aside from the usual switch-off event, the Earrh Hour global communitylaunches Earth Hour Blue, the first crowdfunding platform for the planet. This would allowindividuals to fund enyironmental and social projects of their choice through an onlinedonation. For this crowdfunding initiative, World Wide Fund(\&1MF)-Philippines is urgingthe world to support Baacas for the Philippines, which will share and introduce a climate-smarr fiberglass boar technology to iocal fishermen who lost their boats and source oflivelihood to Typhoon Yolanda.
In this regard, all Provincial Governors, City Mayors, Municipal Mayors, and PunongBarangays are hereby encouraged to enjoin their respective constinrents to ob'serve EanhHour 2014 by switching-off or dim their non-essential lights in their homes, offices,facilities, including streetlights, and other signages within their respective jurisdiction duringthe Earth Hour on March 29, 2Al4 (Saturday) from 8:30PIt{ to 9:30PM, to send a strongmessage to take action on global warming, and to support the Earth Hour Blue to heip localfishermen affected by tlphoon Yolanda. Other activities, which Local Chief Executives maypursue, include the use of various communication channels to promote Earth Hour 2014,including o{ficial websites, community newsletter and blogs, and the use of the Earth Daylogo for posters and other IEC materials.
