DirectorofBusinessDevelopment–FullTime,Exempt(NEWPOSITION)ContemporaryCraft(CC),a48-year-old,non-profitartcenterthatisrelocatingtoPittsburgh’sUpperLawrencevilleneighborhoodinspring2020,seeksaDirectorofBusinessDevelopment(DBD)todevelop,oversee,andimplementstrategicbusinessinitiativesforallearnedrevenue,includingretail(StoreandGallery),Studio(educationworkshops/tours),andspecialevents.Thepositionwillalsooverseestrategicmarketingdirection.TheDBDwillbeamemberoftheexecutiveleadershipteamandplayakeyroleininitiatingprogramsandprojectsthatsupportCC’svisionandshort-andlong-termplans.TheDBDshouldalsobefamiliarwithartisticplanningandtheworkoftheartisticprogramsthatoperateundertheExecutiveDirectorandDirectorofExhibitions.Thesuccessfulcandidatewillhaveapassionforart,anentrepreneurialmindset,strongbusinessskills,andaproventrackrecordofgrowingearnedrevenueandinitiativesinotherorganizations.Thispositionisaleadershipopportunityforanentrepreneurialandexperiencednon-profitmanagertocontributetoContemporaryCraft’snew$5.5millionfacilitythatwillserveasanartdestinationfortheregionandaspaceforinspirationandcreativityineverydaylife.TheDBDmustbeabletothinkbroadlyandstrategicallyaboutorganizationalworkandalsobedetailorientedandorganizedaboutimplementationstrategiesandstructuresnecessarytomovevisionintoreality.Reportsto:ExecutiveDirectorSupervises:MarketingManager(directreport),StoreManagers(directreport)andStudioManager(sharedsupervision).Consultswithothermanagementstaffonallrevenueinitiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• StrategicMarketingOverseestrategicmarketingandcommunicationseffortsforCC,includingmarketresearch,developmentofannualmarketingplan,andcreationofindividualbusinessplansforeachearnedrevenuearea.SuperviseFTmarketingmanagerandworkcloselywithmarketingmanageronsuccessfulimplementationofinstitutionalmarketingplan.
• StrategicPlanningServeasasenior-levelthoughtpartner,mentor,innovator,andbridgebuildertostrengthenallearnedrevenue/businessoperations.ServeasleadforcreationandimplementationofactionplansinsupportofCC’sbusinessplanthattransitionsCCtoanewfacility.WorkwithExecutiveDirector,sharedCFO,DirectorofOperations&Finance(DOF),andseniorstafftosetcomprehensivemeasuresforsuccessandannualbenchmarksinalignmentwithnewplan.Analyzeandinterpretorganization-widereportingdataandmetrics.
• FinancialandAdministrativeManagementProvidethoughtleadershiponhowtoincreaserevenueanddecreasecosts.Worktostrengthenfinancialcapacityoftheorganization,createefficienciesinsystems,andrecommendsavings.WorkcloselywiththeED,sharedCFO,andDOFtooverseebudgetcompliance(expenseandrevenue)forearnedrevenueareas.Effectivelyandclearlycommunicateanypotentialfinancialrisksorsignificant
deviationsfromplannedprojectionsinatimelymanner.Workcloselywithmanagersanddirectorstomonitorprogressandcorrectcoursewhennecessary.
• Earned-IncomeInitiativesandSpecialProjectsIdentifyandimplementstrategiesfornewbusinessdevelopmentthatleveragetheorganization’sassetsandhavethepotentialtoadvancethemission.Initiateandmanageotherspecialprojectsthatbuildaudienceandstrengthenfinancialhealth.OverseeCC’sretailStoreoperations(includingtheorganization’son-siteandonlinemerchandising).SuperviseStoremanagers.DevelopstrategiesforStudioprogramsandfacilityrentalsasearnedrevenuestreams.WorkinconcertwiththeStudioprogramteamtogrowStudiorevenue.
• CapitalizationPlanInconcertwiththeCFO,ExecutiveDirector,andDOF,theDBDwillsupportorganization-wideimplementationofCC’sCapitalizationPlanandmetricsmeasurementaswellasitsintegrationwiththeorganization’sbusinessplan.
• OperationsSupportExecutiveDirectorandseniormanagementteaminselectionofaneworexpandeddatabasesystemasneededinsupportofbothearnedandcontributedrevenue.Workwithalldepartmentstoensurequalityofdataasitisinputted,maintained,updatedortransferredtonewsystems,includingdonor,customer,partner,orvendordata,aswellasarchivalmedia,organizationalreportingdata,orotherinformationvitaltotheorganization’ssuccess.Ensureastrongcustomerserviceorientation,efficientbusinessoperation,physicalattractiveness,andawelcomingenvironmentforallvisitors.
• Training/StaffingWorkwithExecutiveDirectortoidentifyopportunitiesforprofessionaldevelopmentandadditionaltrainingintheareasofsales,marketing,andcustomerserviceforstaffastheygrowwiththeorganization.Initiateandimplementstafforientationandtrainingasappropriateandneeded.Intheeventofstaffvacancies,especiallyamongseniorstaff,takenecessarystepsforensuringcontinuityandproductivity,andwiththeapprovaloftheExecutiveDirector,superviserecruitmentandhiringofreplacements,onboardingconsultantsforinterimassignments,and/orreorganizingstaffresponsibilitiesandtitles.
RequiredQualifications:• 10+yearsresults-oriented,progressivelyresponsibleexperienceinbusinessmanagementpositions.• Master’sdegreeinbusinessormarketing(orequivalentexperience).• Demonstratedorganizationalleadershipskillsindirectingacollaborative,results-oriented,high-
functioningteam.• Understandingofbusinessfunctions:Marketing,Sales,Finance,Operations,IT,Fundraising,
Programming.
• Excellentwrittenandoralcommunicationskills.• Superioranalyticskillsandfluencywithnumbers.• AdvancedcomputerskillsincludinghighproficiencyinMSOffice(particularlyExcel).
