Which package is rightfor you?The programming software packagesshare the same general features, butthere are a couple of key differences:

PC-DSOFT5 programs all six CPU families(DL05, DL06, DL105, DL205, DL305 andDL405). PC-DS100 is a free, full-feature softwarepackage that allows a maximum of 100words for programming, editing, anddownloading. Larger programs can be cre-ated and saved but NOT reopened ordownloaded without upgrading to the fullversion.

Note: you can upgrade any older purchased version of DirectSOFT, regardless of the CPUsupport, and obtain a full programming packagewith total CPU support, using PC-R50-U.

Upgrade the PC-PGM-305, PC-PGM-205, PC-PGM-105 or PC-PGM-BRICK packages toPC-DSOFT5 to support all other productfamilies.

Number of usersThe packages listed above are really“single-station” packages. That is, youcan legally install them on only onecomputer. However, if there is only oneperson who primarily uses the computer(over 80% of the time), then you caninstall the software on a laptop, homeoffice, or any other single backupcomputer.

Laptop/portablecomputers and off-site usageMany of you may be using laptopcomputers for field service work. This isperfectly acceptable as long as it adheresto the guidelines described previously.

Can I ship a copy to mycustomer?No, except for a single backup copy, youcannot make, install, or distribute anyadditional copies. You can transfer theoriginal copy (original CD, any applicableupgrades, and any documentation) bytaking advantage of our Web registrationand ownership transfer site.

Of course, this means you cannot legallykeep a copy once you have transferredthe original.

Maintenance releasesYou can receive maintenance releases atno charge by downloading them from ourWeb site. These often include some minorfeature enhancements along with soft-ware corrections.

Software upgradesPC-R50-U <--->

Any release that contains major featureenhancements will be subject to thenormal upgrade charge in effect at thattime. The DDiirreeccttSOFT5 upgrade partnumber is PC-R50-U. Note: This upgrade will update any older packages thatare already installed on your system to a full program-ming package with all CPU support.

DirectSOFT5 Programming for PLCsProgramming versionsWith DirectSOFT5 Programming Software,selecting which software package youneed is a snap! You can select the fullyloaded package at its great low price, oryou may choose the FREE package. It hasall of the same programming functions asthe full package. However, it will onlydownload a program up to 100 wordslong.

The fully-loaded version (PC-DSOFT5)will program all of our DirectLOGICPLCs, some GE Series One Plus PLCs,and TI305/405 SIMATIC PLCs. Refer tothe chart below to verify compatibility.

The FREE DirectSOFT5 package(PC-DS100) was designed to provide amore streamlined choice. You can seefrom the table below that the FREE versionhas the same support and same greatfeatures, but will only allow you to openor download a program up to 100 wordslong.

Also, you cannot open an offline projectlarger than 100 words. You can create aproject as large as you want and save it todisk, but you cannot reopen or downloadit to a PLC without unlocking the fullversion (PC-DSOFT5) by purchasing akey.

PLC compatibilityIf you’re using our DirectLOGIC products,then compatibility is not an issue. AllDirectSOFT5 packages support allDirectLOGIC CPUs. Our software alsosupports many compatible products thatwere offered by previous vendors of theKoyo-designed PLCs. Communication links to PLCs

Description, Wiring Info, Nickname, Element

The Launch WindowThe Launch Window is a centralized location to view not only allof your DirectSOFT5 applications and projects, but also anyadditional applications such as NetEdit, DN Loader, CTRIO WB,ERM WB, etc. This window is also used to create and managePLC programs and the communications between your PC andthe PLC.

Point and click editingOnce you have started a new project, there are a few different ways to startbuilding your program. The Ladder Palette, which is attached to the rightborder by default, can be resized and repositioned anywhere on yourdesktop. This contains most of the instructions you will need. Simply clickon the icon or use the Hot Key associated with that icon. Some instructionshave to be accessed through one of the Browser icons. The Browserscontain all of the necessary information from various boxes, coils, andcontacts. You can now customize the Ladder Palette tool bar to fit yourprogramming style and needs.

DocumentationDocumentation is the text associated with the components andstructure of your program. It helps to clarify the representation ofelements by assigning four different fields: Description, WiringInfo, Nickname, and Element.

Onscreen viewsDirectSOFT5 defaults to a new Tab view to give you the most optimized viewingarea. You still have the option to view multiple windows in the original “MDI” formatby simply hitting the Restore button in the upper right of the active tabbed window,or go to Windows menu and select one of the tile or cascade options. You can havemultiple windows open to view such things as all of the addresses used in theprogram, a mnemonic view of the program instructions, and all of the instructionsused.

DirectSOFT5 FunctionsSupport for drum instructionsIf your PLC supports Drum instructions, you will like this feature of theprogramming software. Simply fill in the top of the drum with outputs andconfigure each step with an event and/or time-based element. Then click onthe output boxes to choose the proper output states for each step and you arefinished.

PID viewDirectSOFT5 offers an excellent PID feature. The loop and trending screensare very easy to configure. This feature has all of the views, trending, andtuning that you need to easily and successfully set up your PID loop.

NEW! I-Box InstructionsThe most notable new feature in DirectSOFT5 is the addition of the parame-terized IBox instructions. These fill-in-the-blank instructions were designed tomake your programming experience quicker and easier than ever before.Within these IBoxes you will find some complicated and some simple,everyday ladder code tasks made easy and fast.
