WHY disseminating research is important:
• Improve you academic profile
• Develop you career and finding future employment
• Improve your research
• Feedback from an academic community
• Generate ideas and contribute to a wider debate
• Impact on current practice
• Promote understanding and share knowledge
Tips for Writing Journal Papers
• Start planning asap! – Timetable with your supervisors when to work on papers– Think big..!
• What part of your thesis to disseminate? – Results? Theory? Methodology? – Ask yourself what story is most interesting to you
• How to select the right journal – Look at which journals repeatedly appear in your literature review– If you are not yet in the habit of searching articles on your subject matter – you should be!
• Co-authoring & Writing– Typically you would co-author a paper with your supervisors– Do not shut yourself away – involve peers and colleagues A.K.A Networking!
for Research Dissemination…
• Network… collaborate… peer support
• It’s okay to start small and start early (low risk)
• Look and listen to others
• Stay focused and on topic
• Enjoy sharing your research
• Use small grant applications and funding for conferences
• Utilise opportunities to disseminate work locally (seminars,
PG conferences etc.)
