We are quickly approaching our first Town Hall, which will be on March 28 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at BCTC Newtown Campus in

room 105. We are thrilled to have the Commissioner of Public Safety, Ronnie Bastin presenting an overview of public safety in

Lexington, as well as LFD Chief Kristin Chilton and LPD Chief Mark Barnard. The West and Central Sector Commanders will also be

there, along with some neighborhood resource officers. We will be hitting on a number of topics that you presented to us as the

most concerning to you in this district, which include home invasions, auto thefts, and auto break-ins.

Also coming up this month, there will be a public hearing for the proposed zone change and development at Blackburn and

Fourth Streets from Light Industrial (I-1) to High Rise Apartment (R-5) . That Public Hearing will take place on March 7 at 5:00pm

in Council Chambers. For more information regarding these proposed changes, the Planning Commission’s Public Hearing can be

Our first Council Comments was filmed in February and should begin airing on

GTV3 in the first or second week of March. I was joined by Lexington Historian

Yvonne Giles and Officer Ryan Holland at Cove Haven Cemetery where we dis-

cussed the history of the cemetery and all of the work that has taken place there

over the last year. I hope you will tune in to learn more!

Lexington’s 2018 Comprehensive Plan, Imagine Lex-

ington, wants your input. On March 15, the Division of Planning is

partnering with the Blue Grass Community Foundation and Leader-

ship Lexington to provide a platform that will supplement the City's

traditional public input methods. On the Table is an opportunity for

anyone throughout Lexington to host a conversation amongst

friends (old or new) to discuss community issues important to

them, providing the Division of Planning with unprecedented infor-

mation from thousands, many of whom will be engaged for the first

time.

Commerce Lexington's fourth annual EMERGE Conference

The Arboretum will be offering scholarships to the event Spring has Sprung as part of their Party for the Planet! Spring has Sprung is an event that will take place on

April 7th from 10a.m.-1p.m. in the Kentucky Children’s Garden. It will include stations that are hosted by exhibi-

tors from local organizations that are related to the themes of spring.

Thanks to the generous support of Kentucky Utilities they are able to offer scholarships for admission to this event! They will be offering these scholarships to needy

families and school groups so that they can have the opportunity to experience the Kentucky Children’s Gar-

den and learn about spring!

The Lexington Police Department would like to invite rental property owners, managers, and even maintenance personnel to

their 2017 Spring Crime Free Multi-Housing Seminar. It’s a FREE one day seminar with great speakers. Steven Marshall who is a

well-known local attorney will be there along with personnel from Code Enforcement, a Narcotics Detective, and Gang and Crime

Prevention Officers. Officers will also speak about Patrol Officer’s duties, dispatch priorities, Nuisance Letters, etc. It will be held

April 19th at the Lexington Police Departments West Sector building, 1795 Old Frankfort Pike from 8:00am - 4:00pm. It in-

cludes a FREE lunch, as well as coffee and donuts in the morning. All participants will receive a certificate of completion at the

end of Thursday.

This seminar is the first of three parts of the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program. The second is a CPTED (Crime Prevention

through Environmental Design) survey of the rental property. There are a few minimal standards to be met first and then the

property receives a certificate that can be hung in the office noting its Crime Free Multi-Housing Program status. The third part is

a “safety social” in which an officer comes out to the property to talk to the residents about different crime prevention tips. The

best thing about the program is it is all FREE!

Lexington’s Division of Waste Management will resume its normal yard waste collection schedule starting Monday, February 27, 2017. Yard waste containers, yard waste bundles, and yard waste bags will receive weekly service, along with trash

and recycling containers, on your regular collection day. Residents are encouraged to use their grey carts to dispose of yard waste such as leaves, twigs, shrubs, and plants. Limbs placed in the cart must not be longer than four feet in length or thicker than

six inches in diameter. If the limbs don't fit in the yard cart, they must be bundled with twine and placed on the curb. If you have excess yard debris that does not fit in your cart, you can use paper yard waste bags.

Those with city waste collection service that do not have a yard waste cart may request one by calling LexCall at 311 or (859) 425-2255. Requests can also be made online at www.LexingtonKY.gov/LexCall, or by using the LexCall phone app.

2017 Environmental Grant Program

American Water’s environmental grants support inno-vative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore and/or protect watersheds and com-

munity water supplies through partnerships. Project activities and outcomes should address a wa-tershed or source water protection need in the local

community within American Water service areas. Source water protection projects are activities that

result in the protection or improvement of the commu-nity’s public drinking water supplies. Watershed pro-

tection projects should focus on activities that im-prove, restore or protect one or more watersheds.

2017 Ripple Effect Scholarships The program, now in its 15th year, offers one-time,

$500 scholarships to high school seniors who demon-strate strong academic performance and a commit-

ment to environmental stewardship. Information about the scholarship program is being distributed to

area high schools and can also be found at www.kentuckyamwater.com. The deadline for entry is

April 7, 2017.

The 15h annual Grandparents As Parents (GAP) conference is Thursday, March

16th, 2017 at the Clarion Hotel in Lexing-ton, KY. Grandparents, caregivers, rela-tives, and professionals are invited to

attend. There are two presentations from our featured speaker, Joan Callander Din-gle—a grandmother who raised her grandson and has written two books,

Raising Children of Alcoholics and Drug Users and Second Time Around. The conference also includes: 8 Breakout Workshops Free Legal Consultations

The Corridors Commission’s Corridors

Neighborhood Enhancement Match Grant

Program will be accepting applications for

FY 2017 from February 1, 2017 until April

1, 2017. The program's objective is to

partner with neighborhood and other

community-based groups to enhance the
