The Club meets in Park Hills Missouri which is about 65 mile south of St Louis Missouri. The Club currently has 38 members. Membership has remained steady over the last 5 years and they are looking forward to member growth. Back to 1934 – “Service Above Self” and the ideals of Rotary were quickly embraced as Rotarians started putting their footprint on their community. Over the years, the Club has made an impact not just by the service projects and community assistance, but also by the fabric of the members involved in the Clubs. Projects have included: portable band stands, house projects (maybe a fore runner of Habitat for Humanity?), Halloween costume parties, furnishing wheelchairs and hospital beds, entertaining high school athletic teams (and now Special Olympics), providing scholarships since 1974 while being responsible for the area’s first handicap accessible swing set among their numerous projects. The Club’s rich history also includes service projects such as trash clean-up and blood drives as well as one of the area’s longest running basketball events as this year, they hosted the 62nd Annual Basketball Shootout, proceeds that fund the Club’s scholarship program. The Club has had six members serve as District Governor and have the distinction of the only “brothers” who have served this District as Governor, Roger and Jerry Weems. Many, many Rotarians have served in Rotary in St. Francois County in the past 87 years. Like many Clubs, they have a rich tradition and pride in our accomplishments. As Rotary is enduring through the latest pandemic, they have been fortunate to continue to meet despite the pandemic with a hybrid-style format and have added 6 new members this year. They were fortunate to hold our largest fundraiser of the year in recently completing the 62 nd Annual Basketball Shootout. However, they must now look to the future. They face many challenges and maybe even a few obstacles going forward, but we draw this one lesson from our rich heritage: exemplify the same determination and diligence that has produced 87 years of Rotary service in St. FrancoisCounty . In doing so, they will continue to leave a legacy started one snowy night in March of 1934.
