NORTH SHORE

Saturday 13 June 2015

2.45pm

Welcome North Shore both first and reserves. After a couple of weeks away and some creditable results, a draw against Tauranga and a win against Takapuna—it’s good to see after the start we had. So to the coaches and team I will be looking forward to a battle against the top of the table North Shore today at Memorial Park as we start the second round. After the let down with bad weather last week when we had most teams at home, lets hope that the weather is kinder to us this week and allows all teams to play. To the new dad in the club—Marvin, we are looking forward to seeing the young fellow run around the park in a few years time. Hopefully not too many sleepless nights. To those who help out with the pitch set up thanks for covering for me. I’m looking forward to a chat after the game. Thanks all

First Team Coaches Comments

Welcome everyone to Memorial Park as we kick off the second round of games this season. Today we host Paul Figeuira-Temple and the North Shore squad who are sitting in first place and no doubt wanting to win the league and promotion, along with continuing on with their good run in the Chatham Cup. In the first round matchup against North Shore, we started the game well, but in the end fitness and execution told as we came away empty handed. Hopefully some of those issues have worked themselves out and we give a better account of ourselves this time. In the last few weeks, the team has seen a marked improvement in work rate and team work leading to a confidence boost within the squad. We hope that carries on for the remainder of the season helping to propel us further up the table. Enjoy the game today and we'll see you at the bar afterwards. H & Nath

Youth Report

Hi everyone This week we hear from our 14th Grade Girls team . This season finds us with a new coach and old manager. We call ourselves the Manurewa Minions. The Minions are an awesome bunch of young woman who have really clicked as a new group of players. The season started with a loss but since that game we have developed a passion for playing passing football that even the Under 20’s players would be proud of. We have played 3 games won 2 and lost 1. We have scored 12 goals and have had 6 goals scored against us. Gemma our goal keeper plays the game with a lot of heart and passion and dominates the entire goal area. She is supported by an extremely hard working back line and a confident mid field that continues to develop and try new things each month. We have an amazing striker who not only scores goals but looks to lay the ball off to her team mates when ever the opportunity arises. The season is but early and I am sure there will be some tough games coming up, but as their coach I cannot be prouder of the start this team has made. Myself and Liz, the manager, are supported by an awesome set of parents who make being a coach very easy. I look forward to continuing to have a successful year. Robynne Hubbard Coach Changes to the Youth Player of the Day Presentations: We will now be doing one presentation day a month where we will recognise all players of the day for the month. The door prize will be a $50 Westfield Voucher instead of the $15 bar tab that was given out weekly. We will trial this until the end of the season and review it again prior to next season. The next presentation day will be on 4 July when the first team is home to Waiuku.

Continuing the theme from the previous report – More Junior Coaches and it seems this week we are all about our Marks Mark Jacobs – coaches the 8th Grade Bobcats. Here's what he said. I've been coaching for the past five years. These 5 years included coaching an U17 team and my sons' junior teams. I enjoy teaching the kids new skills and watching them grow and improve. It's tough trying to juggle a 9-5 and getting to training on time but rewarding when you see how eager the kids are to play/train. This makes coaching worthwhile! Mark Fredrick - This is my first year coaching the Manurewa 7th Tornados. I’m new to coaching football, though I did coach some junior Basketball on the shore a few years ago. My family live in the gardens, my son is 6 and my wife and I wanted him to play a team sport this year, we enquired at Manurewa Football Club, and here we are. I am lucky to have last year’s coach Alexander Lau still very much involved in the team, his communication with our parents is a tremendous help to me and the team. Alex organised a game for the team last week when no game was scheduled, and he lets the parents know about cancellations to trainings and or our games. We also have very supportive parents of the boys in the team, who help out at training and on Saturdays. My role is to help the boys with their individual skills, create more awareness of field position for defence and us-ing the ball to build attacks. I have a very talented group of young boys who have played well in all three games so far. Which mostly I’ve put down to Alex’s work with the team last year. Their enthusiasm is a delight and we’re seeing skills we’ve been working on at practice, like passing the ball, start to be used more during a game. The 7th Tornados are looking forward to the rest of our games this year, so watch out for us, Tornados can strike suddenly… so take care.
