DMA organized an Evening Talk on the Impact of Politics and Governance on Entrepreneurship by Mr Shantanu Bhagwat, IFS, Investor & Political Activist on 15 June 2012 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the DMA-DLF Conference Room.

Mr Bhagwat shared that in a country like India, if you think Politics does not concern you or Government policies do not affect young start-ups or bad policies do not add “costs” to your business or focusing on your business will magically ease your way through the complex web of regulations, then you need to think again. Numerous factors like cumbersome laws and regulations, poor infrastructure, time-consuming procedures, lengthy government permits, inflation which is directly linked to government policies, regulations and compliance etc; hinder the smooth flow of operations directly affecting your cost as well as your most precious resource-time.

He emphasized that there are two keys to making India rich and prosperous: Entrepreneurship and Freedom. Instead of entitlements, develop skills, create entrepreneurs who in turn will help in the creation of jobs and subsequent economic growth and development. Last but not the least, there should be free societies which are more prosperous, more transparent, less corrupt and more natural.

Evening Talk

Professionals from Corporate, PSUs and Government organizations and Senior Managers from Human Resource, Administration were the participants at the programme. There was an open house discussion to clear out the day to day problems, doubts and real case situations of the participants. Mr. Pandhi delivered the vote of thanks.

In the present times, employees have understood the importance of communicating well, which in simple terms, means effective communication. It must be kept in mind that the way you communicate also defines your personality and character. It can in fact pave the way for your success . Following are some ways in which you can communicate effectively at the workplace:

Have Clear Thoughts

Ensure that you convey your message clearly. Many people tend to speak out of context while trying to sound too important. A thumb rule of effective communication is – conveying your message without any ambiguity.

Study your Audience Well

You should choose your topic and words depending on the type of audience you are talking to. For example, if you are talking to a technical person then that person will understand technical jargons. Such an individual will not understand management jargon. Therefore, it is important that you understand your audience beforehand.

Documentation Yields Handy Notes

Proper documentation will also come in handy while talking to your colleagues. It will eliminate any chances of ambiguity as you know how much and what to speak. Similarly, notes and documents will act as a referral while communicating.

Command Your Language

You should be very professional while communicating with office colleagues, irrespective of their designation& stature. Make a special note that there is no scope for loose talks. Ensure that your pronunciation is perfect while communicating with your colleagues. Also limit size of your talk keeping track of time availability.

You can be a Leader / Motivator for Others

Not many people believe that you can lead and motivate others with your talks. Your communication skills will make you distinct from the others. You will be able to command a position where people would accept you as your virtual leader and treat you as a figure of trust to seek advice.
