The elegantly styled HS Card Key Switch easily complies with current energy codes,
saves on utility bills and improves guest comfort and convenience – all by providing a simple way to turn the room’s controlled lighting on or off at once when entering or exiting a room.
Operation couldn’t be simplerRegistered guests and housekeeping staff insert the room’s card key (or HS-FOB Key Fob for guest rooms that do not use a card
key) into the Card Key Switch and the room’s controlled circuits become energized. When the card key or Key Fob is removed, thecontrolled circuits will turn off after 30 seconds, allowing for safe egress from the room.

About 50% of energy used in the hotel isin guest rooms.* And studies show thathotel lighting usage patterns do not reflect a significant dip in energy consumption during 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. when guest rooms are typically unoccupied. Specifics of the current energy codesWhat buildings must comply with the energy codes?The energy codes apply to all new guest room facilities, new portions of those facilities and new systems and equipment in existing facilities.
IECC* 2006, 505.2.3: “Sleeping unit. Sleeping units in hotels, motels, boarding houses or similar buildings shall have at least one master switch at the main entry door that controls all permanently wired luminaires and switched receptacles, except those in the bathroom(s). Suites shall have a control meeting these requirements at the entry to each room or at the primary entry to the suite.”
ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA** Standard 90.1-2004: “hotel and motel guest rooms and guest suites shall have a master control device at the main entry that controls all permanently installed luminaires and switched receptacles.”
ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA** Standard 90.1-2007 with Addenda: “Guest rooms in hotels, motels, boarding houses or similar buildings shall have one or more control devices(s) at the entry door that collectively control all permanently installed luminaires and switched receptacles, except those in the bathroom(s). Suites shall have control(s) meeting these requirements at the entry to each room or at the primary entry to the suite. Bathrooms shall have a control device installed to automatically turn off the bathroom lighting, except for night lighting not exceeding 5 watts, within 60 minutes of the occupant leaving the space.”

room.
• Insert the hotel room’s card key (or
HS-FOB) into the HS Series Card Key
Switch.
• The controlled circuits become

• The controlled circuits will have power
for another 30 seconds to allow safe
egress from the room before power
turns off.
• Restore power to the room’s controlled
circuits by reinserting the hotel card key
into the Card Key Switch.

Features
The HS Series Card Key Switch turns electrical circuits on or off when a card key or HS-FOB Key Fob is inserted or removed from its slot. The HS-100 is a low voltage unit with a normally open and normally closed isolated relay, allowing it to interface with third-party energy and lighting management control systems. Additionally, the HS-100 can connect to one or more Watt Stopper Power Pack(s). The HS-150 is a line voltage unit that serves as a master switch for a single guest room circuit.

Applications
HS Card Key Switches are ideal for guest rooms in hotels, motels, boarding houses, senior residences or similar applications with guest rooms. Once installed, they function as control devices located at the main entry door, controlling all permanently installed luminaires and switched receptacles.
Operation
Inserting a door entry card key or HS-FOB into the HS Card Key Switch energizes the controlled circuits and loads. Removing the card key initiates a 30-second time delay to allow safe egress from the hotel room. Once this time delay elapses, the power to the circuits is terminated. To restore power to the room’s controlled circuits, reinsert the card key into the HS Card Key Switch.
