Using Capture, a recruiter can work with Client and Candidate data more efficiently.

FOUNDATIONS OF INTERNET SEARCH WHEN USING CAPTURE TIPS

The goal is to provide some fundamental guidance on how to use Capture, by helping

you understand the basics of Internet Search. In addition, when possible, to discuss

how to bring the technology into a real recruiting process that can be leveraged to find

more clients and candidate in your recruiting efforts.

Axioms are the simplest concepts that everything else is built upon.

Understand these basic concepts and you will become a Capture wizard.

In this case to the right, Google report that it is bringing back over 1.0 million results.

This is not true.

Google only brings back about 600 REAL results for this search. Google, Bing, or other

search engines will never bring back more than 1000 results.

Are there only 700 Data Scientists on LinkedIn? Absolutely not. The challenge

is to use multiple searches to get at the total results.

The answer may not seem obvious, but it is actually simple. You must

create multiple permutations of the search in order to get

maximum results.

Axiom 1: Try To Get < 1000 Search Results Per Search

When using an Internet search engine, conduct your search with enough specificity that the search engine reports that

there are less than 1000 results. If you are doing a search that yields many thousands,

break up the search into a few separate searches.

Recruiters: Follow the logic that follows and you will be able to create a new candidate base from scratch.

Method 1: Permutate on location.

For this example, we will target MidWest cities. We will start with the 10

largest cities in the Midwest by population. If you want to dive into this

project, follow this wikipedia link for the top 800+ cities

Axiom 2: Split Searches (Permutate) To Get More Results

First, we have a challenge, we must convert the city names to the naming

format used on Linkedin, which ends up with the following list:

Notice that the format of the locations is NOT consistent. Making this mistake can end up yielding ¼ of the full results.

If you are going to search LinkedIn by Area, make sure to search it how linkedin describes it, not how you think about it.

Now, back to the challenge. We want to search all 10 locations for Data Scientists. For your own searches, just replace “Data Scientist” with the title or titles you are looking for.

Now that we have the searches, how do we automate them and get them into Capture?

Axiom 3: Create Your Own Search Presets

Step 1:Click the Search Presets in the Capture Interface

Step 2:Click on “Create New Search”

Step 3:Fill in Title, Description, Search String and press Save. At this point you can also choose the search engine to be used.

Step 4:Locate your new search and add it to your favorites

Type in the search box (in this case, “Chicago” was used) to find the search you just built

Step 5:Favorite your search by clicking on the star.

Step 6:Test your search, press the RUN button.

After you press RUN, you will have the option to Execute or further edit your search.

Step 7:Review Results

You no longer need to memorize long search strings. Now you can press a single button to get results.

In recruiting (and sales), the landscape of available people changes daily. So how can searching on time intervals be applied when using Capture? Using best practices, perform searches on a consistent basis. This is just a discipline that you can apply as needed.

To leverage Capture, we can create a modified search string to classify people by time at company. Here is a search string example:

In this case, we targeted people that have been “1 year and 1 month” in the current job of Data Scientist.

Axiom 6: Build On Successful Processes

Now that we have the fancy searches, how to get them into Capture so we are not typing long search strings every time?

1. Go to Capture’s search presets 2. Create new search 3. Fill in the values for the search string

Notice the brackets < > around Enter Title and Enter months 1..11 this tells Capture to prompt you for these values when the search is used.

This search has already been added to Capture, but now you can see how it was done, so you

can develop your own searches.

› Seek people when they have reached certain milestones of employment length.

Example: find people who have reached a milestone of 2 or 3 years.

› Use seasonality to your advantage. Teachers overwhelmingly start jobs in the fall with the new semester. Build search plans to maximize your candidate building efforts.

› Skill threshold. Looking for a Salesforce Administrator with 5 years of experience? If they were at one job this is easy to do.
