    SAP DMS installation/implementation.

    This question is Assumed Answered.

    Hello Guys,

    Greetings.

We are in a requirement to implement the SAP Document Management System for our customer.

I am completely new to this scenario.

    Basically I am very confused.

And I would really request your help on this.

    1. How can I go for implementation of basic level DMS?

    2. I guess I am lacking the basic concept of DMS, I tried on net but there is so much to read on SDN

and Google, it has only left me confused.

    3. What all components I need to install for that

So far from reading the SDN I have found out following things.

for DMS we need to install the SAP KW server, Install the content server. am I correct?

Also the Latest KW server installation expects Java Engine to be deployed correctly and UME

    configured.

is it not possible w/o Jva engine?

On top of that I have Oracle DB for my SAP ERP and CRM systems so do I have to keep the same DB

    for KW server as well?

I have got all the inst guides for the content server KW server and all.. but still confused on where to

    start.

    Regard,

    Yuvi.

    Re: SAP DMS installation/implementation.

    Hi,

The main components for SAP DMS implementation will be :

    - the content server

    - the ERP or CRM system which is to be linked to the content server

    - document management interface component usually installed on the ERP/CRM system

Before implementation, sizing the content server is extremely important as the number of documents

    should be handled effectively.

Follow the link for Sizing the Content server:

    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/PLM/ContentServerSizing+Approach

    https://websmp105.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?

For installation and configuration of content server:

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/40/32104211625933e10000000a155106/content.htm

Also the guide is available on SMP : http://service.sap.com/instguides

Further configuration for DMS interface would be required. Documentation is available on the SMP.

I do not think Java system is mandatory for standard scenarios. Also the Content server sits on MaxDB

    only, not any other database.

    Re: SAP DMS installation/implementation.

    Hi Srikishan,

Thanks for that reply, it gives us a sigh of relief.

    Few rookie questions!

I have following understandings from your reply, pl correct me if I am wrong.

    1. By Document Management Interface component is 'Easy DMS'.

    2. Also one content server can be linked with only single ERP or CRM system.

    3. Can I link a content server to DEV system for testing and then remove it from DEV and link it to

    PRD?

    Regards,

    Yuvi.

    Re: SAP DMS installation/implementation.

    Hi Yuvi,

    - Yes, EasyDMS serves as a nice interface especially for new scenarios (EhP4 onwards)

    - No, one content server should be able to serve many SAP systems depending on the sizing

done for the content server and if it is able to handle the document flow from the connected

    systems.

    - Yes you establish and remove links between the content server and systems

    Re: SAP DMS installation/implementation.

    Many Thanks Srikishan,

Now that we are quite clear with installations we have completed the steps for the same.

We have installed the content server on a separate host and also we have installed the

Easy DMS on one of our client machine.

The biggest problem in front of us is now how can we link the ERP to Content server.

I tried with Easy DMS I could login to ERP system and create a public folder there, but

we are not able to understand anything after that.

Is there any guide on SMP for integration of Content server with ERP/CRM.

Or help portal link is sufficient --

    and

and if above links are sufficient then how Easy DMS plays a role in this?

    Regards,

    Yuvi.

    Re: SAP DMS installation/implementation.

    Hi Yuvi,

EasyDMS is only an interface to the document repository.

First the ERP system has to be connected to content server. For choosing a content

server from ERP system and creating new repositories in the content server check

link (especially tcode csadmin and oac0 on the ERP system):

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/34/a4162687d70a4a95d2cc481c386159/frameset.htm

EasyDMS comes in later to provide a integrated Windows explorer like navigation to

document repositories. Activities with easyDMS are:

    - Manage document structures and documents

    - Check in docs via drag/drop, cut/paste/copy

    - Document Search

    - Maintain personal/public folder structure

    - Check in/out document from MS Office application directly

    - Work with link to documents

    - Version and delete documents

    Thanks a lot Srikishan,

    Points awarded for every reply!

    One last question.

How do we know that the documents are stored in content server?
