Aloha Hawaiian Princess Time Share Owners,

Having spent 7 weeks at the Princess this winter, Linda and I must say “kudos” to the AOAO for the great job on the Lanais and Railings. The Board of AOAO need all owners’ thanks for persevering through difficult and challenging times. The work is complete, and the outcome is wonderful. Great job folks.

As for the Princess, if you have been there lately you have experienced the beautiful update of our units. We especially like the soft blue which gives the place a modern beach look. Thanks again to our Board Member Lolly MacKenzie of reThink Interiors who worked free of charge to plan the update and arrange the delivery of inventory. She and her team even came to the Princess to assist Kim Antonio and her staff with the change out. A huge shout out of appreciation to Lolly for her commitment to the Princess. Everything looks fabulous. And of course, Kim and her staff worked tirelessly to make sure everything was in place for your visit; we have come to expect nothing less from our wonderful Timeshare Manager.

Some of you who were at the Princess this past year, especially recently, will have noticed that the homeless moved into Lahilahi Botanical Garden, next to the Princess. It was of significant concern to both the Princess Owners, including time share, and the residents living close by. Unfortunately, the homeless had some rowdies living there that caused challenges. After establishing with the County how this could be dealt with, I am pleased to report that through the efforts of the local homeowners and a number of Princess owners (AOAO and time-share), meetings were held. Through a joint effort of local residents and Princess owners, the authorities moved the homeless to other locals. Several clean up dates have been

set to clean up the site, here is a note from Kim Antonio that I felt best explained the clean-up: “The Waianae High School football team came out today and cleaned as well. Ku'u, a local home owner, and her team came out with tools, gloves, trash bags and a plan of action. Our staff helped to set up and our Princess Owners donated funds as well. Judie Davis went out and did some shopping and the Waianae Store donated the hot dogs, buns and the water. Amazing!!!”

It certainly is exciting to see the local homeowners and Princess Owners getting together to address a common challenge. This is in keeping with our proposed rebrand for your stays at the Princess as “Living Local”. On this there is more info to come. Staying in the Makaha Valley at the Princess on the Waianae Coast is truly living locally.

Finally, thank you to all who voted during this year’s Annual Meeting. I was re-elected for another 3 years, and the Board members saw fit to appoint me as your President for another year. For such an honor I am truly humbled. Thank you to all who ran for office, and I extend a special welcome to our newest Board member Gary Verbout and his wife Connie.

Aloha Kakaou Hawaiian Princess Owners!

I hope everyone is having a prosperous 2019 so far…

The weather has been beautiful (as usual) here on the islands. We’ve had temperatures ranging from the high 50s to high 80s. We also had some rainfall, which was needed especially on our mountains and valleys. Over the past few years, we have noticed the effects of climate change too. We have had extensive fires. We have had extreme cold weather (for us locals)! But the beautiful Hawaiian Princess at Makaha continues to be the jewel where our guests love to be.

We have experienced changes in management and staff on both the Timeshare and AOAO side. Please don’t hesitate to get to know us.

We are at the end of our lanai projects, which included replacement of the railings, water proofing the decks and spall repair. We have also completed the painting of our timeshare units and replacement of interior doors, which further our goals of providing a fresh, beachy experience. We always look for ways of improving the quality of our units for our owners and guests, so please continue to share with us your feedback.

Our annual meeting was a success; let’s welcome our newest board member, Gary Verbout, and our re-elected member and President, Rick McDonald. I look forward to working with them in this next year. Thank you, Don Isaacs, for your service to our association and to me. We appreciate you!

After a long week filled with our annual meeting and several other meetings, we decided it was time to have a little fun! On Saturday evening, the lobby was filled to capacity for our TSOA and AOAO potluck. Mahalo to all who shared their favorite food, beverages and even their singing voices. Yes – we had full-on karaoke, and more than one star was born that night! We plan to do this January, February and March of each year.

Mahalo everyone!

WHY WE LOVE THE HAWAIIAN PRINCESSThe Hawaiian Princess has been our primary vacation destination for 14 years! We love it here!

Words that come to mind when thinking about our time here are: tranquil, beautiful, comfortable, paradise, restful. We love the sound of the pounding surf, and the birds during the day, even the roosters greeting us in the morning. The amazing ocean views of Makaha from our lanai, seeing whales almost daily, watching turtles, and occasionally seeing a monk seal on the beach. We appreciate the people of Waianae, experiencing the beautiful Hawaiian culture, hearing their unique and beautiful language, hearing a prayer in Hawaiian on Sunday in church, shopping at the Tamura market, taking a sunset dinner cruise out of Waianae

harbor. It’s so good to be close to so many amazing places to visit on Oahu but away from the busy tourist areas.

Arriving a few weeks ago to the amazing and tasteful redecorating and refurbishing of our building was so exciting and refreshing. A big thank you to those who worked so hard to make this happen! We appreciate so much the work of our manager, Kim Antonio, and her staff in keeping our building looking great, and treating all of us so well. The Hawaiian Princess is simply the best! We look forward to many years of great vacations here and most important, experiencing “Living Local” in a way probably not possible anywhere else in the islands.

Mahalo!

Lorne Clark

LANAIFURNITURE

“I'd recommend this resort if you want to get away from the city. It's very chill and relaxing.” -Jason U

"As for staying at The Hawaiian Princess..?? Lovely!!! Absolutely stunning views. The Beach is just Awesome. Yup, some days the waves are a bit high, but that is Mother Nature at her finest. It’s Beautiful. Those are the days you hang out at the pool. The views and sunsets are Fabulous." -carolewill512

"Nice place to relax off the beaten path." -Digger5246

The Hawaiian Princess is a great place to bring your family. No matter what the age, the view from our lanais is captivating! We ask that you use caution when enjoying your lanai with young children. Children should always be monitored and should never be permitted to climb on the lanai furniture. A fall from the lanai can be fatal, even from a lower floor. We appreciate your cooperation to ensure everyone has a safe and happy vacation.

SALESIf you or anyone you know has interest in acquiring a week, or perhaps weeks, in a one bedroom at the beautiful Hawaiian Princess, we do have sales on-site. TSOA Manager Kim Antonio and Penny Dumont are available in the office on weekdays to provide information for anyone interested in purchasing a unit. They can take you through the entire process and can answer all your questions. You may also reach Kim at [email protected] or Penny at [email protected] for more information.

SUMMER ON OAHUWhile Summer may not be the most popular time for owners to visit Oahu, there are definitely benefits to vacationing during these months. The most obvious benefit being the summer months offer some of the best weather in Hawaii, with the lowest rainfall of the year from June through August. Also, from May through September, the water is warmer, creating perfect conditions for water-based activities. And while these weather conditions are truly ideal, some may argue the weather is ALWAYS good on the islands. That is why we decided to find out what else is good on Oahu during the dog days of Summer.

The North Shore swells calm to a low roar once the storms abate for Summer. This means you can enjoy a dip without fear of being pummeled by a set of gnarly pipe. The smoother waters of the North are a sign that the Southern shorelines are starting to see some action, but the waves are tamer there. It is the perfect time for learning to surf off the Waikiki coast.

Summer also brings cultural events that are sure to make your vacation unique and memorable. You can participate in the Bon Dance. Japanese plantation workers brought this folk dance to the islands to show gratitude to the ancestors. The dance is easy to learn and will certainly provide plenty of photos and maybe a few laughs as well. You may also join Hawaiians as they Hail to the King. King Kamehameha is honored with lei-draping ceremonies, floral parades and a hoolaulea every year on June 11th.

June and July bring the Ono fishing season. A day fishing on the warm waters of Hawaii is always a pleasure, but the opportunity to catch Ono is extra special. Many of the charters will filet the fish you’ve caught so you can take your catch straight back to the Hawaiian Princess BBQ area!

Even the Princess changes for Summer. In our last issue, board member Jerry Gautreau shared memories from his past vacations during the Summer months. At this time of year, our picturesque beach uncovers rocks upon which you might find the occasional board member perched.

Whether you enjoy a fresh, hot funnel cake at the State Fair, have your mind blown at the World Fire Knife Competition, or simply avoid the crowds on our phenomenal beach, a Summer trip to Oahu is sure to be filled with new and entertaining things to do. What is your favorite Summer activity on Oahu? Send your feedback, pictures or stories to us at [email protected] and we’ll share them with your fellow owners. Mahalo!
